The thing about watching this again is I have been watching you for 5 years now, WoW how time has gone by, and now I am a trike owner. Thanks, Matt I have enjoyed it all. I still have the smile on my face from the first time I went out with my trike till this day I enjoy the time I have to ride. JaYoe.
Hi Matt!!!! Many Great Thanks for sharing the Rising of your Trike! Many details and so much Pleasure to see it comes alive to support you on your Journey! Congratulations to HP because we can easily see how serious, how professional, how cool and precise, are HP's Persons! Many Great Thanks to them too. Forza and see you. 😉👍👌🤙♥️
Thanks Matt for the Backstory! it's great to see the steps you took in preparation. Keep up the good work and we look forward to you looking forward to moving forward.
Great video Matt!!! Just wanted you and HP Velotechnik to know that you are the reason I just picked up my first Trike. I was considering a Catrike, but their weight restrictions and your videos are the reason I selected HPV! Wish I could post photos. Thanks for everything your doing!!!! You have motivated me to to take charge of my life!!!! ...and thank you HPV for building such an incredible bike!!!! Can't wait to follow your journey again!!!
The crash at the end made sense: black bike, not yellow: pretty bloody scarey. The build process was fascinating. After watching your videos I bought a Catrike Dumont, good, but not a beast like that scorpion but enough to get me around. I hope, when you get back to the USA that I can finally meet you and share a conversation over a Starbuck's.
Matt, I loved watching the two trike related episodes so much! This one is not just informative but also hilarious. I hope so much that you'll have more luck with your new ride! JaYoe!
Germans are so good at what they do. People always say they are so stubborn, My wife who is from Germany says she is not stubborn,She just wants it done right..
I came from 23 yrs of bicycle road racing where I logged over 750,000 miles. I have ridden across the USA by mountain bike and had a Windcheetah Hypersport in the past and loved it until it broke in two at the cruciform joint. I have been barefoot ultra distance running for 10 yrs now and logged another 68,000 miles. You've reawakened my dream of riding all over the world :-) The trailer hitch: What trailer will you use? The USB charger port: Can I get the same thing through Velotechnik? If possible I would like to know all the specs of what you had customized for yourself including accessories so I can decide how much to replicate what you did? I will now begin from your first video and watch all of them. Thanks and I look forward to collaborating with you and perhaps meeting up out there one day in the near future.
2019 December 3: I've just watched your video in Thailand where the suspension has died. And here you are, several years ago, installing those very rubber bushings! :)
Awesome video. So glad you put this video together. Hp Velotechnik should be very happy with this one. Really makes you want to buy their product. Very well done.
This is the first video I have seen in this series. The production is excellent. The trike factory is impressive in all regards and the design and engineering of the trike is unrivaled. I'm eager to do more reading to find out what one costs in the U.S.
Wow and double wow, great video and a fantastic looking trike. Now to go to episode one and catch up. I hope the accident was not too serious, I guess Ill find out later.
Where is the battery? What's the capacity, range and charge time? Why not use solar with the dynamos to charge while riding? You could put the solar panel on the roof of the trailer but not fixed so you can still mount stuff on or solar on the bike cover or wind roof?
AWESOME!!!! Another great job Matt!!! Yea, I am addicted to your travels.... keep up the great work!!! I look forward to your next video! P.S. You may want to ask HP-V about the possibility of a "Roll Cage" ........... LOL. "JaYoe"!!!
Nice ride, Matt. Impressive quality control too. Velotech always was top of the line. I started out with a Trident Stowaway II. Currently have a Catrike 5.5.9 with an infinite gear ratio NuVinci N380 hub in the rear and a Bafang BBS-02 48v 750w electric pedal assist on the front. I ride it mostly in manual mode. Electric is for those five mile long mountain grades or an emergency instantaneous boost. 30 mph uphill on demand is a nice feature to have. The 750 watt BBS02 is barely street legal BTW but can be reprogrammed to perform like the BBS03 1000 watt which is not street legal... 50 mph. My guess, they are the exact same motor. If you ever decide to go that way its easily adaptable to your trike; just make sure you get the beefier mosfet controller that can take the higher current draw. Only regret, I didn't wait for the new Cat with the main rear shock absorber like yours.
Great info Jack, you really know what you're talking about. There aren't a lot of good quality Catrike youtube videos out there, especially for novices. Would you be interested in producing a video series?
Did you make a video where you explained how you decided on an HP Velo? I missed that one. I saw the video where you and a friend checked out trikes in California but I didn't find one in-between that one and this one.
At first I didn't know the name of your bike, "A Recumbrent Trike" instead I just called it "A Trisaw Bike"...Pardon me Matt, in fact it is a really a very sophisticated trike produced in Germany. Great.....
Hi man, I like bicycles, I love mine, I'm jealous of yours, which of the different Scorpion models you chose and why? which was the specification that made you decide yours over the other models? If you could choose again and assuming you would again choose a scorpion which one would you choose this time? or if not a totally different model which specification you would change if you could? or what are you missing on your trike if anything? Peace and good luck.
Chapter 32?... I started researching recumbent touring and just saw you start your Korea trip last night and watched about three of your vlogs... Very well done, and I'm excited to catch up on the previous 31... You show your thinking process, and that is refreshing... Is there a beginning that I can start with? Is there a vlog labeled chapter 1? I saw a PBS program about a guy who quit his job, moved to Alaska, and built a cabin by hand... He took video's and explained the process... This reminds me of that...
You did get it a bit wrong on the brakes as they are clearly Avid BB7 mechanical disc brakes, not shimano (I have a total on 8 of them on the four recumbents in our household) I would also probably go with that sort for a world tour :)
Matt you are the man, nice viseo and I know that the German companies are the best in the world, and this is good because I gonna a travel all around the world 🌏👍
ETRTO 406 (20") is a stiffer wheel, more agile in cornering. but you loose gear inches over the 26". ETRTO 559 (26") looses lateral stiffness, wider turning radius, but has much smoother ride (don't feel the potholes as much) HP may have suggested the 406 to avoid trailer jackknife. I have always rode the 559 because I like the smoothness. You have to be having the time of your life. I'm living vicariously thru you right now. My trike was totaled last week when a driver ran the red light and collided with the boom. Trike frame was bent. Boom, motor and cranks are bent. Total loss. I got a concussion. I'm lucky that I wasn't a few seconds sooner into the intersection or I would have been run over. I'm on the mend. Hopefully, back on a new trike soon. It is so important to video tape every ride, I got the whole collision, EMT and police officer interaction on video. She admitted to running the red light. Video tape every moment of your rides. Insurance companies cannot debate facts. Ride Safely and always wear your helmet. My Smith Forefront helped reduce my injuries. Great helmet. Not to split hairs, Ignorance means that you know the facts and choose to ignore the facts. It is an old Latin word derived from "Ignore" That is why the phrase, "ignorance of the law is not an excuse" It shows intent to brake the law.. It is confused with the word Nescient, Nescience which means that you just didn't know because you lack knowledge on a particular subject. We are all nescient in one way or another because we are human. Stupid means that the person does not have the capacity to learn. It is a medical condition. The English language has been so bastardized. LOL The beauty is that if we have capacity to learn, we can grow. Life is good. I want to meet you when you return to Portland, I will have a new trike soon. :) PEACE my friend.
You're residing in China? How safe do you feel with Chinese drivers since cars only been affordable in the last 2 decades? I'm only familiar with HK, Shanghai areas.
So cool! I want to buy one, but on second thought, it may be not a good idea to do this in China. Every trike ride could be a survival mission on roads of China. :(
There is a safety issue with recumbents - they are low on the road and difficult for other road users to see. The silly little flags that people use are ineffective. A normal bike rider can wear a bright yellow high visibility jacket or tabard - very effective - but this does not work with a recumbent because the seat back gets in the way. Keeping the lights on all the time helps but there need to be design solutions. The back of the seat could be of high viz material or there could be bolt on high viz placards. Lorries have it after all - by law a lorry has to have 'conspicuity markings' on the back. Manufacturers need to get to grips with the this issue . . .
Somebody who works in processes in engineering, I cannot believe They use a plain unshaved metal screwdriver to align the frame components? If you’re going to be running a production process, why not make plastic or sheaved alignment dowel?

Yikes. I was wondering why your trike was black. I started watching your current videos first where it’s yellow. Now I know why. I haven’t watched the accident video yet. Glad you survived. Although i guess your first trike did not.

That thing is a beast
Hey Matt keep on going! thanks for sharing backstory very useful information which I also wanna know. editing very nice

Matt you are the man, nice viseo and I know that the German companies are the best in the world, and this is good because I gonna a travel all around the world 🌏👍
JaYoe.. what led you to the 406 rear wheel instead of the 559..?
i just chose the ones recommended by HP... apologize for being ignorant.. what is the difference?
ETRTO 406 (20") is a stiffer wheel, more agile in cornering. but you loose gear inches over the 26".
ETRTO 559 (26") looses lateral stiffness, wider turning radius, but has much smoother ride (don't feel the potholes as much)

You're residing in China? How safe do you feel with Chinese drivers since cars only been affordable in the last 2 decades?
I'm only familiar with HK, Shanghai areas.
i feel safe.. but it took a while to feel that way... you start to feel comfortable with your surroundings. when i fist came to china.. no way...
Are there cycling clubs or circles in your area? Do you live in a big urban area?
yea i live in a huge urban area... and yes there are some cycling clubs. actually just talked to one the other day.. i am going to start riding again.
"HP Velotechnik", if i buy a trike bicycle, i would consider this brand.
They grease the square tapered bottom bracket at 9:08 :O Don't let RJ the bike guy see that!
Wuaooooo man it's amazing bike.
I live in Miami and I want one.
In what city in Germany did you buy it and how much in US dollars???
Thanks
Mario
You don't want to know how much this bike cost.
Por favor, alguém ai fala português gostaria muito de comprar uma tribaik desta (elétrica)a bateria ! quanto custaria para entrega no Brasil sp.
+Geraldo Magela da Fonseca Fonseca i think you can send a message to HP directly. they should be able to help you.
What is the top speed MPH, and does it come with electric assist, and suspension?
Yes on full suspension. No electric assist. It’s a touring trike, so speed is not important. On a downhill it was up to 45mph once.
We hope you have sa tribike with roof same like velo tribike
It...is...beautiful. My wallet is catching on fire just looking at it. :D
Sabatheus hahaha
Sabatheus mine went up in smoke
I am from India. How can I buy this from India?
Can i get dimensions please

Decals are important but a helmet and toe clips aren't.
If that bike cost a lot of money, i rather buy mopped motorbike. ☺
:D
Potentially structurally damaged from flipping the bike? What a BS.
u needed a solar and electric bike - and stop using greek words... English is just as clever
Greek words? What Greek words am I using?
