The renaturation of the Wuhle

Last year, excavators and wheel loaders arrived here.
The Wuhle should have a natural river bed. A bed with more space for the expansion of running water. The winding shape of the river creates small islands where willows and alders have been planted. With the undulating riverbed design, the flow speed is regulated in a completely natural way. The water stays in motion and cannot seep into the ground as quickly. At the end it flows into a large pond, where the flow speed of the Wuhle is absorbed like a ball in a pinball machine and a shallow body of water is created in which all kinds of creatures can resettle.
A new natural area has emerged.
The disadvantage of this sensible redesign is once again purely bureaucratic and is stopped by state borders, because the renaturation of the Wuhle only takes place on the Brandenburg side. The bank on the Berlin side remains untouched in a straight line, as it was created in the 1980s during the development of Nordwestmarzahn, one of the last building projects in the GDR.
