System6 RailFanner yep, it's basically an electric locomotive with a diesel generator. It *mostly used for trips which have an electric only portion (aka New York Penn) and a uneletrfied part (such as this line) change can be done in under a minute. Much easier than changing locomotives (like Amtrak in Washington) or pax change trains. However it terrible for mantainice. Very complex and expensive to buy and mantain
