    Vita sold terribly here in the US and it's Sony's own fault for having it at a very high price at launch and refusing to drop the price and a very expensive memory card and terrible marketing, those are the main reasons why the Vita failed. Although that aside I love the Vita and the JRPGs that it has

      Ludger's Channel it was mainly bc the memory cards that it failed and the lack of games coming to it. 3DS was just pushing games one after the other and getting a sd card for it was so easy

    I find myself playing my PS Vita more than my 3ds. My 3ds collects dust. The games on the 3ds are repetitive. Mario, Zelda, Pokemon, Fire emblem and Mario again. I am a huge Pokemon fan and that's the only reason why I'm keeping it around. PS Vita has Ys series, gravity rush, jrpgs, walking dead , Digimon series, sword art, disgaea series, atelier series, child of light, Rayman series shooters like killzone, vanillaware games, Final Fantasy, PSP games and PS One games and a whole lot more. In my opinion the only reason 3ds is more popular is because they have a huge kids fan base when compared to PS Vita. Also Sony wanted money fast with no effort when it came to the Vita. The Vita's unpopularity is no one's fault but SONY's

    Sony shot themselves in the foot with the psp line. I bought the original psp and the vita, and Sony killed both of them with any lack of support. they were outright lazy with it. like they just expected it to sell because it's a Sony product and had about 5 first party games, then got mad when we wanted more and they didn't do anything about it. Just like people say Nintendo couldn't survive on first party, ps vita couldn't survive with just 3rd party. I love my ps4 but I wouldn't be bothered to get suckered into another handheld from them.

      Sony had every opportunity to build up their own line of mascots. They just didn't. They try once and then never do it again. Crash is technically their mascot, but how long has it been since Crash has been visible on Sony platforms? Ages ago, and only recently did they resurrect that. But will they push it again? I wouldn't be surprised if they did not.
      And so they'll never have the same iconic mascots as Nintendo.

    Isn't it more accurate to say that its success is far more limited than Sony hoped? I'm fairly new to vita but I just see dozens of accessories, content creators and hundreds of games and new games all the time and everyone saying it's finished is so weird to me.

    I agree mostly with your synopsis. Imho though, I think Capcom's, Monster Hunter World, will breathe life back into the Vita when it releases. And, if rumors prove to be true that Sony put Capcom back into their $$pockets$$, then we may even get an exclusive version of a new updated MH game for the Vita. If this happens, I promise you, the entire unit will literally be revived. Sony will have turned a 'loss' into a complete win with just the power of one game.

    I’m a hand held console gamer. I used to play both the psp and ds. and i have to admit that in terms of portability and comfort, sony’s psp (i got the go) is more comfortable. I’ve been eyeing the psvita for a while but i just bought a switch and a new 3ds xl (replacing my old new 3ds that got busted batteries)
    The reason i’ve been eyeing the psvita is because it can play psp games and its own game. Plus the fact that it’s havked now...and it’s actually MOOREE portable than the switch. I couldn’t even say that the switch is a ‘portable’ because of the size... so i mostly use it docked..

    EDIT: ps vita 2 or psp2 or just a new handheld with these games (gta5,crash bandicoot n sane,persona 5,dragon ball fighterZ,nuns4) BOOM HOTCAKES

    Vita 2 needs three main things:
    -Standardized storage medium through Micro SD. It's a pain in the ass the Vita uses proprietary memory cards that cap at 64GB and those cost about $130 after importing.
    -L2 and R2, and L3 and R3 buttons. Touchscreen virtual inputs just aren't anywhere near as good.
    -As the video stated, better integration with PS4.
    -As the video stated, out of the box capability to hook up to a TV like the Switch can. The Vita TV is a great device and all, but that should've been possible out of the box. Just cable and bluetooth support for external controller or use the handheld itself.
    -Backwards compatibility with Vita, hopefully both digitally and physically like the 3DS and DS.
    -Allow multiple accounts on the same Vita so I can have my Japanese, North American and European PSN all on the same system like I can on PS3 and PS4.
    Other than that, I love the Vita. Great library of games, games are physical, no moving parts. I want Vita 2.

    Vita needs FAR more 3rd party action game ports that aren't indie crap to succeed. These girl- hero pedogames and jrpg's from Japan aren't cutting it. Western action games are the only way. If Capcom were to for whatever reason put the upcoming Street Fighter Anniversary Collection on Vita, there would be a ton of sales, and it might actually be a console-mover.

  • @WhiteJarrah
    @WhiteJarrah 6 лет назад

    The PlayStation Vita has two way of competing with the Switch already - PS4 Remote Play and a hacked PSTV. If you have a PSTV, you can now use the PSVimgTools whitelist hack and use it to load any Vita game on the PSTV. And other than Nintendo exclusives, all the games on Switch are either already released on PS3 or PS4 or are coming to PS4. If you want to play those games on the go, just use the PS4 Remote Play. So long as you have a good high speed WiFi connection, you're in business.

    - I enjoy how the coffee brewing/drinking is incorporated into these videos. Some of my favorite times with close friends are when we relaxed, sipping coffee and theorizing or getting creative with our ideas. Much like Nihongo Gamer does here. It feels very comfortable and keeps me here for the full video as his insights are interesting.
    - I really don't quite get how strongly people feel negatively towards the Vita. Sure, there are several things that weren't addressed by Sony when they should've been ($$ memory cards), but I've had a wonderful experience overall and I can see why folks would like to see something similar by Sony succeed this time as the game libraries between 3DS/Switch and the Vita are very different and having both in existence would appeal to the most gamers.
    - On the second pass of pouring, I like to work my spiral from the outside in, keeping the strength of the brew consistent 😉

I'm jealous, and it seems like no matter how hard I work I can never truly get the Japanese language down, but if you have that there's very little you can't play in a language you understand and that's just amazing, and would certainly be a benefit to a Vita owner. And...are you located in the US or Japan currently? Because in Japan you really just need to invest in a massive manga magazine and you're all set for any long trip no matter what age you are, which in Japan is probably a train trip instead of a car trip. That said, I live in NA and I would definitely buy the Vita you outlined. My main concern would actually be using a proper memory card format, which you didn't touch on, but the points you did bring up sound like they'd make for a great system.

    vita has been dead for 4 years now. i cant see it coming back. especially in the west. The main selling point of the vita was a console experience on the go....and the switch already does that much better. i think the vita can remote play with ps4, but it needs a wifi connection, so its not as mobile as the switch. The switch uses an ARM architecture which makes software easier to port from x86, in fact its more modern than the architecture in ps4 pro and xbone x. Your dream handheld console' is basically the switch.

    • @haruhisuzumiya6650
      @haruhisuzumiya6650 7 лет назад

      SMoj all games were built on a pc the switch actually has the tools to easily export the issue is optimization.

    • @supermonkeyape007
      @supermonkeyape007 7 лет назад +7

      Haruhi Suzumiya Yes, optimisation is what needs to be done. that can include removing and changing assets and adjusting the resolution and lighting engine. people who say " that game cant run on switch" are completely wrong. ANY game can run on the switch. its a matter of changing assets and basically lowering strain on the GPU. that doesnt nessesarily mean making the game look worse on switch, if optimised properly the game can look pretty on switch in its own way. eg: witcher 3 on ps4 looks pretty good despite having a different lighting engine and less shaders. The switch is in a good position because it has support for most modern API like havok, ue4 etc... which makes the process of porting piss easy. something the wii u lacked.

    • @weaverquest
      @weaverquest 7 лет назад +7

      SMoj To be fair the Switch doesn't have any current gen AAA game either. Yes you can argue Nintendo games are AAA quality but what I am obviously talking about demanding current gen games like Red Dead Redemption, Star Wars Battlefront and Assassin's Creed. Also it was the Xbox 360 Witcher 2 that had different lighting and redesigned shaders. Witcher 3 was consistent across all platforms. I think the reason we still haven't seen any third-party AAA game on the Switch is the fact that undocked mode Switch GPU is only 0.5 Teraflops. Even Xbox One with 1.3 Teraflops drops to 720p on demanding games.

The Vita solved all the technical problems the PSP had (blurry screen, controls etc.), based on positive experiences with Sony handhelds I'd buy another one in a heartbeat. The PSP was between PS1 & 2, the Vita was between PS2 & 3, hopefully Switch's success convinces them to do another handheld between PS3 & 4 that leverages PS4 software.

  • @ferofax

    Those adjustable settings sound like a cool idea, but you don't really need to rely on hardware for that. Those settings rely on *the game engine*, where the problem is that most games use their own game engines, and it is up to the developers to either tweak that, or enable them in-game to allow players to tweak it themselves.
    A perfect example is two of Capcom's games on the 3DS - Street Fighter IV 3D, and MH3U, both of which use their Mobile MT Framework game engine. Granted the only option you can change is whether to turn stereoscopic 3D on or off, but this one setting has a considerable impact on game performance. Turning them off allowed the game to run smoother. Not sure if any of these games hit 60fps, but I'm pretty sure they go well above 40fps at the very least.
    And then we go back to the developers - is it worth their time to include these settings into the game? Or would it be better for them to just tweak it themselves and call it a day? Effort is good and all, but not all devs have enough time nor the will to put in more effort for these little things. Everybody works on a deadline, and that's just a fact of corporate businesses. Indies might be able to get away with it, but devs owned by corporations? I don't think so.

    For a Vita2 success there are a couple things need to happen in addition to what the vita has currently.
    - Backwards compatibility with vita cards
    - at least 720p at 60fps gameplay
    - killer exclusive games or a "Zelda BOTW" equivalent
    - rebranding of what a portable is for the Sony consumer. It can be a stand alone console or a portable ps4 at lower visual quality. Better remote play or a different way of going about it. Such as D/L local copies of games on Vita and connect to ps4 via a dock for ps4. Unlock vita for portable and redock for play and transfer of save to ps4.

Since Consoles are often sold at a loss, getting a person to buy a PS4 hand held when they already have a PS4, means that they are not really going to recoup the cost of the hand held, since you might have bought the game on you non hand held PS4. On the other hand maybe it will just lock some peoples game purchases further into the PS ecosystem.

    Did you know that the nintendo switch is running off a tegra x1. This is a chip that was released inside the shield tv in may 2015. I think it is very posible for them to make the complete standard ps4 specs in a portable system. The only issues I think theyd run into is battery life

    A good example of the cross play between games is Phantasy Start Online 2. It works on PC, but you can play on PS4 and they have a version that works on PSVita. Where you can pickup and go with your PSO account.

    VITA actually has TONS of exclusive titles. In the last 30 days we had 6 new 30hours+ full fledged physical releases for VITA and more if you consider indie games. The same cannot be said for Switch at the moment (and I'll definitely buy switch as soon as things change).

      PS. VITA already has a TV out (like psp). Sony did not activate it as they wanted to sell PSTV (that allows you to play vita games on tv - I use it every time).

    Really want the Switch and the Vita to succeed, much like how competition with PSP and DS, both had incredible games.

    I adored my vita, but for someone in the west, we totally got shafted. After the first drizzle of launch window titles, Sony abandoned ship. When I first saw it when I was 13, the graphics blew me away and many experiences were on par to the console ports. I know it's an Indie and JRPG treasure trove, but I can only play so many FFXs, Persona 4s, and low budget sidescrollers. The Switch by the end of this year will have top notch 1st party games covering so many genres, shooter, adventure, 3d platformer, multiple fighting games, casual games, tactical rpg (technically 3rd party), and a giant RPG with XB2

    Recently dusted off my Vita and bought a few titles I missed out on (Odin Sphere and Tearaway). Fell in love with this handheld again. It's such a shame it flopped

    I think it is a great idea, because now there is a few DEVs thar are not working in games for The Switch because they feel that it has too low specs.SONY would need to have better specs so DEVS will be interested in creating big games cross compatible. Great channel! greatings from Chile

    Smartest thing a Vita 2 could do is use the same physical format as the Vita cards, include backwards compatibility (like DS games on the 3DS), and then fix the proprietary memory card issue.
