I must have seen this video and watched it over 30-40 times over the years since 2008! It pops up on my RUclips feed here and there and I always watch it! One of my all time favorites
I use to have a 66 GT back in 73 , I was living on the end of a dead end street, one night my Dad came to the gas station where i was working , he said dont go home tonight, there is a Radar trap in our driveway !!!
I have a 66 GT350 my dad bought new when he worked for Ford in his twenties. I wouldnt dare think of driving it like that up some mountain on desert highway ......Not with my Dad knowing I did anyway. Im 50 and Dads in his 70s and still acts like I am 16 and just got the Shelby for my birthday yesterday. Ive owned the car for 21 years and havent so much as put a ding on it anywhere. But if you were to ask him I am sure he would say Ive ruined hs " Baby " . Love you Pop, No you cat have it back !
this is awesome footage. my car ran in 1981 and came in 2nd in class (4:43.95). i never new what this climb was all about, and this is the first video I have seen of it, but I am thinking of taking her back and doing it again after seeing this video. spectacular. many thanks
I’ve driven that road hundreds of times since I was 16, I used to race my 73 super beetle 🪲 up and down it, I really enjoy driving my 2002 BMW m3 6speed manual up it, I have never officially entered the hill climb, but I’ve driven countless different vehicles up it, I’m inching closer to finishing my 65 mustang project build and I’m eager to stretch her legs on it, though the m3 is gonna be a pretty tough contender to best, they have some really exotic cars that enter that event, what was your time if you don’t mind sharing?
That Side Pipe Exhaust Really Makes it Sound Like More than 306 h.p.Sounds More Like a Stroked 306 or 331ci.LolThink I believe Reading Somewhere that the R Racing Ones Were Stroked to 331ci.
this is so better than some porshe, audi or mercedes, nothing like american muscle.and this "shelby" mustang is signed.for those trailer queen shelby's,daily drivers, and colletables.hope those shelby's are/where signed.cause now its too late. shelby/mustang,hurst/olds,yenko/camaro.
I’ve lost control on that road and spun out putting just a hair too much into it, it really tests the limits of your cars handling and what you don’t see in the video is the shear 1000ft + drop offs that aren’t something you will be walking away from even if you stick the landing, also it appears to be the front passengers vehicle since he asked him if the steering wheel was connected so I’m sure he was using a fair amount of caution, it’s not a very forgiving road when you make a mistake and sometimes a few hundred rpms mean the difference between making a turn and breaking the rear tires loose, which could be a mortal mistake so I think the driver did exceptionally well feathering the throttle in and out of the turns.
Just to think. Carroll Shelby didn't want anything to do with working on a Mustang. Lee iacocca said "You have to, Henry Ford II wants this a he pays the bills" Shelby American develop the 1965 GT 350 with a budget of $1500 dollars givin to them by Ford. 1965 money went a longer way than today.
'Golf gloves'? You're obviously a kid. Back in the day of real sports cars, gentlemen wore proper string-back driving gloves (look closely at about 0:09). Leather on the palm side, crocheted on the back (hence the name string-back). They often wore ascot ties as well, but unfortunately now there is a certain, ahem, affectation associated with wearing one. Find the Bill Cosby album "200 M.P.H." and listen to side 2 where he talks about his custom twin-supercharged Cobra, and his 'driving outfit'. Hilarious!
The sounds of the car ...The shifts into a turn ..pedal down in a straight ,awesome!!
.
Awesome footage! Looks like a lot of fun!
RIP to the legend behind this amazing machine: Carroll Shelby

Wow, just like Bathurst. I don't know anything about race cars and driving fast, but FMD that looked impressive, especially in that toy.

This is the sound every man should hear when the divorce to the behemoth is final
That sound...
Kind of reminds me of my drive home!
Nice car. Two questions: 1) is it genuine? and 2) what transmission you running?

the whole video i was like: you can put more gas down there, and there...and there

hard time following the line
Not noise music!
Low quality picture, high quality sound. Mozart couldn't make that music ...
hummena hummena hummena :D
Same.....he did a decent job but the whole time i'm "down shift....no? ok loose that power...fine.....ok more gas.....no? ok fine"
What gears are you running ?
Cool
@wikileaksmedia
that's why you'd get a '66 :D
Virginia City Nevada? If that is right, man Virginia City has a bunch of curvy roads on high elevation.
Оу 2021
This thing handles like my truck, from one lane to the other. Except mine does it at 20 miles an hour.
yay 240p

Crazy Americans :)
Is this a girl driving? and what's up with wearing golf gloves?

Pitman arm is too long.
You would think they’d know that 😂. It’s definitely not adjusted correctly at the minimum.
lmao, is this a girl??? hahaha look at those hairy ass arms, and yea serious driving skills, gotta love standard transmission, so fun!
