Wonderful video. I do not remember, or I was not aware, about swedish military involment in anti piracy war. I really admire swedish military designs, specially tuned for their specific conditions (ships, turetless tank and Saab planes).
If Sweden had the same GDP and population of China, India, Russia and the U.S, allowing them to produce in quantity, the R-142, The Stockholm class, Visby, and the T-56 MTB's they would be a contender for a spot in the top 3 world power. Great video. T56 MTB video up next WD?
The plan is to have dual crews on these Patrol boats. However as the military high command and politicians are keeping the wages down in the military so much it's not competitive recruitment is difficult.
That will change with the new budget. But how will they fit a double crew? I served on Stockholm in 2007 and the space was cramped, very hard for me to see the crew number going from 34 to 68 people!
@@cubismo85 You misunderstand DUAL crews, the ship will have two crews so that one can be on leave or train while the other is operating the ship. Thus the ship can be at sea for more days during the year
Removing the RBS-15 made the ship obsolete for combat, altho it serves well as a patrol boat. Having served on the vessel, it looks naked without the RBS-15.
The Stockholm class are still classified as patrol vessels, however their half siblings of the Göteborg class have been either put in reserve or modified into the Gävle class which is still in active service as corvettes.
The corvette could or should have a ASW helicopter for operations in Blue Water models e.g., North Sea, Baltic and for overseas operations in Aden etc.
All ships still in active service has undergone several periods of extensive maintenance, modification and rebuilding. Last such period took 2 years each for the ships involved. But they are getting a bit elderly, replacements have been delayed several times by politicians eager to cut costs.
It is, but the tonnage is a bit lower then normal corvettes. There arnt any better name for this type of warship, you wouldnt call it a gunboat as it is too advanced for that, and also carry (carried) anti ship missiles.

They went to the sea outside Somalia somewhere in 2009-2010.
Yet another great video WD. Our Swedish cousins definitely know a thing or two about designing great naval vessels.
cool little boat
Very interesting, cheers!

V nice video
Spica is the name of a star in the constellation Virgo.
Good video. Why has Sweden changed these ships to corvette again?
They are old. Sweden is now working on new ships
5 ships commissioned in the new Luleå class.
The Stockholm class are still classified as patrol vessels, however their half siblings of the Göteborg class have been either put in reserve or modified into the Gävle class which is still in active service as corvettes.

The class name was intended to make enemy would gave mercy.
Navy nations know their ships but is that enough?
The singular AND plural of ‘craft’ for aircraft and naval craft are both ‘craft’ I.e., NOT “crafts”.
In Lebanon whey do not nothing so it's mean like whey not here and it's true - do nothing
These must not get run very hard, and receive good maintenance, they are approaching 40 Years Old!
