So happy & thankful I found this! My Mom was a wonderful seamstress. Last Mother's Day, she suddenly died of a massive heart attack. She lived a few hours away from me, and when my old machine began having issues, she gave me her machine, but the only problem was that the embroidery part stopped working, just the sewing machine part works. She gave it to me in the Fall of 2019, and was waiting for the chance to come down and teach me how to use it all. Then covid happened. So we were waiting patiently until it was safe to get together, we had planned for June of 2020. All of a sudden my Mom was gone. I miss her so terribly much, never thought I could learn how to use this machine. Today I found this video and am so very thankful that I have a place to learn how to use Mom's machine. Thanks so much for posting this!!
I'm so sorry for the loss of your mom. I lost mine the day after Christmas in 2023. I still can't believe she's gone. I hope that your mom's machine provides you sweet memories of your mother, and that you can make memories for the special people in your life on the machine for many years to come.❤
So glad I found this, can’t play the vhs tape that came w machine anymore. Lifesaver I just hope to get the motivation to use it as it is not worth selling compared to what I paid for it many years ago. Now I am retired but lack energy. No family living in same country. At least I have my husband and 2 dogs - when I bought it I thought I’d have many grandkids but didn’t happen yet. Hope springs eternal- such a beautiful machine.
I am so grateful to discover this instruction since I've not been able to use my Designer 1 for three years and cannot believe how much I forgot! The blessing is your video teaching me even more than I previously knew about my Designer 1. Thank you.

Thanks for yr note, as I’m in similar situation. Bt the D1 when 1st out & then life situations interfered with time to sew. Now living in beautiful MT, where it’s Bernini or Brother & only quilting vs previously doing heirloom, & no store using Vikings. Feel like I’ve forgotten how to sew! This is so helpful. I just bought a Viking Designer 1 from an estate sale. I already have a Designer 2, but have been wanting to embroider. This is a great tutorial!
I hope if your machine ever needs repairs you can get them! I’ve been just told mine is totally obsolete & no parts or programs are available any more! Talk about a let down! I have over 4 thousand patterns on Floppy’s & can’t use them any more because the machine can’t be fixed! Plus I have all kinds of attachments !

Gina Land Join the Viking Designer 1 group on Facebook. It’s a great community of users and a wealth of great information. I’m loving my machine and use it every week.
Warning. Don't pull the thread under a clear foot when winding a new bobbin from the needle. It will score the foot, making it weaker and prone to breaking.

You can download free designs and there are TONS of sites that sell designs. Once you buy the design you can easily convert it to your Designer 1 format. But you must have software. I understand the Husqvarna website offers a free version on the Primeir 2 software which will allow you some basic functions including downloading.
You can get the software to transfer designs to a USB stick at our Etsy store : Excited to share this item from my #etsy shop: Installation CD for 3D Disk Manager USB and Quick Font for Husqvarna Viking Designer 1 USB Version etsy.me/3sjN2Pj
Yes is possible to create your own Designer 1 floppy disk but you will need the Husqvarna Viking Customizing software or the Professional embroidery software. Those programs convert the designs to Designer 1 Format SHV and create the special menu system. We also offer that service in our shop in case you are interested www.etsy.com/shop/JestexCorner
I inherited this machine from a friend. What a workhorse. Question though, if I am embroidering on denim do I use a denim needle or the normal 80 needle the help advisor suggests?
Just happened to get information on this machine and saw your question although it's many months later hopefully you got an answer if not here is my advice depending on the thickness of the material you go with a stronger needle the eyes will be larger also. Finer fabric uses smaller needles. 👌🏼
