I have used Garmin rino radios, with GPS and telemetry between users, this new generation of |Ham radios doing the same, while they lack the Rino mapping, are a great step into that niche.
I just got the radioddity GA 5 Wb HT and loving it so far . does everything the VERO N75 mobile does but more.. It has built in GPS a compass, air band AM RX USB C charging and something higher cost HTs have it will notify you on screen where APRS users and direction from you. you can aslo message off the radio but the phone app is easier
Jason, great look at the radio. I'm wondering if you had to choose, would you take the A1 or the RA89. The RA89 doesn't have NOAA channels (at least as far as I can find) and is 10 watts. The A1 has NOAA and while the GPS isn't a standout feature per se, it could still be a big benefit in an emergency to know exactly where the user is (lost hiking, etc). The A1 looks a little easier to program, as well. I really like my RA89 but I may need to add another "back-up radio" to my collections. 73!
I’d go with the 89. You can always add the weather channels as memories and I like that it’s 10W. Also, you can use Chirp to program the 89. Food for thought.
Yes true APRS would be a great addition to this radio. Is the S meter a true S meter? Or does it go FSD when the squelch opens no matter what the signal strength is? I'm looking for an HT with that capability and other than the expensive ones I've not found one yet.... not looking hard enough may be!
I realize it's not meant to be a scanner, but I'm wondering how it would perform as one. does it scan at a decent speed? Does it scan all three bands at the same time? Does it listen for weather alerts while it's scanning? Can you skip a busy channel and continue scanning?

Love the water test

I also think they need to get rid of the K Style connector which defeats the IP rating. They need to go to the Pogo Pin style.
why not just make them all bluetooth
I would prefer the offset to be pre-set but changeable.
Does it use the K connector pinout? So I can use my accessories and AIOC.
Kenwood style connector same as the Baofeng UV5r
@@KM4ACK I am a UV-82 guy, but they work too.
Friends don't let friends get APRS radios.
I agree so please be ready to hand over your FT5 to me in Huntsville. What kind of a friend would I be if I didn't take it from you. 😂 😂 😂
