- I'm Laura! I'm 27. Five years ago, I was hit by a drunk driver. I had a stroke. I have aphasia.
My friends don't know how to talk to me. Here are some tips.
11/24/13 - The website for the National Aphasia Association is www.aphasia.org. NOT ".com".

I would rather talk to you than most other people I encounter in a day. You're amazing.
I love that she still kept her sense of humor too. She seems like a really great person to know. ^_^
You are wonderful. Thanks for explaining. I listened carefully. I will try to remember this when talking with people with stroke.
Sweet Jesus... you are an angel.
No car hit my car but I survived a major stroke, I type real slow ( one finger), walk w/ a walker and now having to move in at own place. Love your message! People still do that to me....I talk / pronounce everything slow...guess I need to speed it up? It is nice to see a familiar things.
Great video Laura. I've been through this because of a Traumatic Brain Injury. It is so frustrating when people talk over you as if you're not there, isn't it? Feel free to connect with me. It took me a few years to get through it, and now it only affects me when I'm tired. Keep making the videos. :)
Laura! You are an inspiration! My mother has lived with very severe aphasia for 13+ years and she gets better all the time. Aphasia is a very hard condition to live with and you are an inspiration to people with aphasia (and their families) I wish you the best for a continued recovery! And I hope that you make more videos!

Such a great video! I have a patient at work with aphasia and he can only say yes, no, or ok. He gets very frustrated when he has trouble communicating, but our office has no problem working with him. Glad to see you still have a great sense of humor :)
You are so incredibly beautiful, Laura. Love to see people like you who are able to remain in good spirits and laugh in the face of undeniable hardship. Your humor and personality are contagious. Thanks for making my day!
You're awesome Laura
Thank you for taking the time to make this video. The awareness you raised for how aphasia can be properly accommodated in social interactions was very enlightening! Keep up the great work!
This is awesome great use of humor. I am curious does the effect of aphasia on your speech get more pronounced the longer you speak? I would love to learn more about how you are dealing with Aphasia and what sort of occupational therapy etc.. Hope to see more videos!
For me, it gets more difficult as I get more fatigued. I have, thank God, learned how to speak very well but inside, in my brain (thoughts), the more fatigued I get the easier I get "lost" in language.
Thank you, Mark! Morning, workout with Shaun T, "Insanity". Noon, Speech Therapy. Evening, my homework (speech therapy, again). I love it!!
Hello Laura, way back I said I used to watch your video. I'm still getting better. Count your blessings and keep on going.
You are amazing. I hope you have a wonderful holiday :)
Really cool video! And of course, very useful information :).
I fucking hate drunk drivers. You're a very strong woman.
I've never met anyone with Aphasia, but I am glad I saw this video as it made me think. Thank you for informing me!
You're amazing! x
Thanks, Laura for this great video! You are awesome! As another commenter pointed it out, these suggestions you list could (should) apply to pretty much everyone. If you think about it, it's all about respecting the other person... simple as that. Again, great video!
Love the video. You are teaching a subject that people need to know about whether they want to or not. I have a dysfunction in one ear that if I try and hear more than one conversation in a quiet place, it all get jumbled, so the part about a quiet place really hits home.
You are so inspirational
