    Speach, friend, how are you? I'm thinking of buying this kayak.
    What did you think about speed, stability? I intend to use it in the sea, do you recommend? thanks dude

      Jp Fishing Brasil if your going to do more salt water fishing I would go for the 12 foot kayak if you are going to go beyond the breakers. If you are doing bay fishing the 10ft will do fine. These boats were designed to be launched from the surf.

    Hey what’s up man awesome video , I’m looking to get the same kayak! Do you wish you would have got the 12ft ?also how stable is it when you stand? Have you used any other kayaks you can compare it to?i currently have a ascend 12 ft .thanks

      @alvarez9814  6 лет назад +1

      Carlos Huerta hey brother if you want more room I would go for the 12 Ft. I only do fresh water and for salt water I only do bay or marsh fishing so it works great. It’s very stable I can stand up and fish. I have a couple of other videos where u can check it out how stable it is. The weather has been terrible so have not had a chance to take it out recently. I’m only 5’6 do the 10 ft works great for me.

      Gulf Coast Yakin I would go with the 12 ft one brother if you are going that far out should cut the water even better and should be a little faster.

      I've heard they will also be coming out with a 14'. I believe the 12' would be just the ticket, unless one is really traveling a lot.

    • @andreitimchenko8748

      I got a 12' recently from Amazon, and here is my 1st impression: My kayak was delivered with some damage - there is a v-shape dent about 1x1" on right side, looks like it hit some sharp angle during handling/delivery. It's above the water line, so I'm not going to sink because of it, but still... Kayak was wrapped with bubble wrap as a base layer, and plastic film on top of it. If Riot reads this - I'd advise a cardboard layer for extra protection, at least for the hull bottom and sides. It got couple minor scratches here and there also, so that extra protection will help with aesthetic and hull life.
      The kayak itself is quite decent. The seat is comfortable, but may lack some pedal adjustment for taller guys (I'm 5-8, and seat is almost all the way back). The drive lock is questionable on a long run, it's just a pivoting plastic(?) block which secures lower set of pins. Drive seams to seat securely so far; will need time to tell the reliability story. Plastic seams to be somewhat softer than on other kayaks I have (OT Predator PDL and Perception Pescador 10'), but deck around the seat and drive is solid; it flexes some in storage areas and at the hull but I need to admit it was 100+ F, and yak was exposed to sun for couple hours. The hull (bottom) shape doesn't have a perfect curvature, it breaks some around scuppers, but top and side view is good. Scuppers are not round, rather oval in shape, but provided foam scupper plugs fit OK. They added couple 4" hatches on both sides under the seat, but accessible only with the seat pulled forward all the way - still good to have. Paddle string is on the left side, where rudder control is, so I will add a paddle holder to the right later on. Kayak doesn't have a sacrificial keel, so I added couple strips of KeelEazy for wear protection (and patched the dent; black on yellow, but who cares?). The big advantage is its weight; the hull weighs 57 lbs without drive and seat according to Riot site, so I can car top it easily. Will test it on the water in couple days, and update the review. So far, looks good (yes, made in C*na, but cost of $1.3K hard to beat, and hopefully competition will drive prices down for big players in this market).
      UPDATE 08/31/18: Took it to the water test today. Car top loading - OK. Stability - OK, can stand easily. Tracking - not impressive; kayak hull doesn't have prominent channels and/or big keel, so tracking is affected with wind (it was about 10 MPH) and boat wakes even with the rudder. Turning radius is good (better than OT Predator PDL). Speed - not a racer for sure; I tested it for speed at ~1 mile stretch, and my calculated speed is 2.85 MPH for cruising, with head wind half distance and boat wakes. It started to drag and build resistance when I tried to push it harder. My biggest gripe is hull bottom design. Riot cut corner with lesser scupper holes which would add rigidity in that area, and kayak bottom is flexing/bending noticeably when put into saddle. The top (cockpit) is more rigid, but bottom of the kayak looks very cheap because of that flaw. Riot base kayak (without pedal drive) costs $800, and you can get a good quality basic kayak for that money.

  • @7blueblaze
    @7blueblaze 6 лет назад +1

    Great review Tex. One question for you - If night fishing, 'how are you able (minus a flashlight or LED hack) to view the prop for alignment - incase of needing to remove the drive quickly? For instance moving along and the ole depth finder says you're about to screw up (and you want to keep moving out - on a fast paddle - chased by that surprise storm and climbing surf) due to shallow waters.. lol?
    Also I have been told the bottom of boat to the end of the drive is 12 inches. Is that correct?
    Thanks

    • @alvarez9814
      @alvarez9814  6 лет назад +1

      WoodCravings that’s a loaded question lol ... i don’t do any night fishing but your right if you have an oh crap moment you would just have to be used to removing the drive the right way to avoid any issues or just pedal backwards lol. The prop is very well protected I think it will handle a little beating

    • @7blueblaze
      @7blueblaze 6 лет назад

      Texas Fish Scene ahha, but down the road you may find out (and it's true) that night fishing totally ROCKS... lol
      I figure you can probably mark something to know whether the prop (foot pedal position or something) is in the right position for removal (unless the prop blade easily slips). Very nice looking boat - I'm sure you'll enjoy it. When I get the 12' I'll try and give you a shout out (i'm hoping it'll be as stable and paddle really well.

    • @howabouthetruth2157
      @howabouthetruth2157 5 лет назад

      Well if you're going night fishing, you know you're going to have at least 1 flashlight or head lamp anyway. So use the flashlight/head lamp to check alignment of the prop. Unless there is a certain pedal position to memorize or mark, in relation to the prop that remains consistent throughout the rotation of the pedals. But even if it doesn't, what's the big deal about shining a light on it for a split second? People should be glad the thing has a clear panel to see through.

  • @RemodNC

    Thanks Tex. The Mako 10 fits my needs exactly; however, although reviews are scarce, I have seen one that states that the quality of workmanship is poor. Did you find such a problem? I am about 70 miles from Oceanside, so will probably drive down and look them over myself. One other question to be answered about the 10 is whether there is room for the drive in the boat when launching off a beach, and before the water is deep enough for it.

    • @alvarez9814
      @alvarez9814  6 лет назад

      Bob Gilkison I had the same issues thinking that the quality was poor but man let me just say that the kayak preforms great I’m able to stand up easily on and fish I have more videos on it just have not had the time to upload it. What sold me on it was he warranty on it. Also there is a special spot for the drive to rest on with clips to strap it and it will stay put until your in deep enough to start peddling.
