There were some found at the end of the war and people claim they were his. There’s only one or two with rock solid provenance, one was Capt Kubala’s captured after the war from Goering’s surrender. That cross is believed to have been in a house fire and lost.

16 For God so loved the world, that he gave his only begotten Son, that whosoever believeth in him should not perish, but have everlasting life. 17 For God sent not his Son into the world to condemn the world; but that the world through him might be saved. 18 He that believeth on him is not condemned: but he that believeth not is condemned already, because he hath not believed in the name of the only begotten Son of God. 19 And this is the condemnation, that light is come into the world, and men loved darkness rather than light, because their deeds were evil. 20 For every one that doeth evil hateth the light, neither cometh to the light, lest his deeds should be reproved. 21 But he that doeth truth cometh to the light, that his deeds may be made manifest, that they are wrought in God.

I old enough to remember the museum in the 80s when it was in an old stone farmhouse on the Fort. That amazing FM baton was in an old ass wooden framed class case like you’d see in an antique shop displaying pocket knives. It’s by far my favorite item on display at the new museum, which is spectacular.

Several years ago, I purchase one small artifact from the Gettysburg Museum of Military History, a small sterling silver dessert fork from Goering's personal silverware service, certified by the Museum. It has his crossed Reichsmarschall's batons engraved on it as well as the proper silversmith's mark. It's really not much to look at, but its a piece of history and something that belonged to one of the most notorious German leaders during WWII. I have various other military and political artifacts from German, Japanese, Russian, and American forces from WWII. Makes history come alive. I still regret passing up an opportunity to obtain a complete wedding invitation from Field Marshal Blomberg's wedding that led to his downfall. It was apparently a leftover invitation that was never sent to anyone, with the inner and outer envelopes and what I believe was the small rectangle of thin rice paper they put over the engraved invitation to protect it. This was probably 4 or 5 years ago.

@@RobertRobinson-dy3rj - that's pretty neat, having a piece of history. About 5 years ago, I think, Hydrich's SS honor ring was on the market, but it was priced above my pay grade, as was some of Hitler's tableware. I absolutely don't advocate for them, I'm just fascinated by the historical significance of the artifacts, regardless which nation it came from. I have a beautiful WWII K98 Mauser, which, although in excellent condition, was sporterized by Interarms back in the 1960s, and although I would prefer the original unaltered condition, I have to admit that they did a hell of a good job, and it had one of the finest Monte Carlo stocks I've ever seen, and it shoots like a dream, one-inch groups at 40 yards. I also have a nice WWI broom handle C96, and a Nazi CZ 27 made in Prague in 1944, but this one is stainless steel finished, with the rarer one-piece wooden wraparound grips. German weapons generally are known for their excellent workmanship, although the weapons produced near the end of the war tend to show a significant decline in that regard. I don't have the money to afford one nor the desire to go through all the NFA hoops to own a genuine MP40, but that is the iconic German submachine gun of WWII, so when American Tactical came out with a .22 caliber semi-auto version about 10 years ago, I had to have one, and I believe I paid around $485 for it, and that reproduction, even though it's semi-auto and chambered in .22 long rifle and has a ridiculous phoney suppressor to camouflage the extended barrel to meet the legal requirements, is one of the most fun rifles I've ever owned. But the point I wanted to make is that several months after I bought it, I was at a gun show, and someone there had an entire box of genuine leather surplus MP40 slings that had been found in some warehouse in Germany, and even though they were never issued, given their age, they were in excellent condition, unlike many older leather - slings, holsters - that have spent nearly 70 years in some warehouse. Still supple, no cracks or dry rot. The crate they were found in had Waffen SS markings. The guy probably had 40 or 50 of them, and I got one for the bargain price of only $8. So my reproduction has a genuine Waffen SS sling intended for the real MP40, something I never expected to find in a million years, especially unissued, and certainly not for the price I paid. While not quite WWII, although the first ones came out at the tail end of the war, I have an SKS rifle, and it's markings indicate it is a 1956 Sino-Soviet type, in excellent condition, it had a milled receiver and is surprisingly well-made. Before I chanced upon this one, the only ones I had encountered were the cheap surplus Chinese Norinco SKSs that were plentiful and cheap back in the early 90s - they had stamped receivers and usually cost between $50-$70 at the time. And they were always drenched in cosmoline. I never bought one, these had not been treated well, very low-grade surplus, but several of my buddies did, and I had the opportunity to shoot them, and I was definitely not impressed. But the one I got only two years ago is a whole 'nuther animal. The quality of materials and workmanship is excellent, and it's an excellent shooting weapon. Since the SKS did manage to be developed shortly before the end of the war and saw some action very briefly before being replaced by the AK47, despite being a 1956 model, I still count it as part of my WWII collection, along with my Vietnam-era M1 carbine and modern govt model 1911 pistol. I even have the D-Day commemorative .30 cal. reproduction cartridges in reproduction packaging inside a wood box that Winchester put out a few years back. My dad had a nice Japanese Arisaka rifle that he found in the basement rafters of the farmhouse my parents bought in 1956. Unfortunately, he sold it back while I was still in high school. I'm 62, but my father served in the Pacific theater, and as a Sea Bee attached to the 3rd Marine division, he fought on Guam, Sai Pan, and Okinowa, among other islands. But he never wanted to talk about except on two occasions when I was already in my 40s. I had several uncles on both my mother's and father's sides who fought in Europe and an uncle who married my dad's younger sister, who was an Italian PO who had been put to work in a bakery in Barberton, Ohio where my aunt was also working. Both sides of my family are 100% Italian, by the way, my parents being first generation. My Uncle Tony fought in Italy, and actually was in my grandfather's village where he was born, in the Abbruzzi region, and met his future wife there, who he married after the war when she came to America. My Uncle Mike on my mom's side fought in the battle of the Bulge. So with my dad and uncles having fought in WWII, growing up it always fascinated me and I've got a whole library on various topics from the war. I should also mention that I have a German aunt who married my mom's brother who is a Holocaust survivor, who, at around age 4 saw her father and grandfather shot right in front of her. She most likely wasn't gassed because they were not Jewish, and she was the archetypal Aryan child, Nordic features, blond hair and blue eyes, but because of her father's pre-war political opposition to the Nazis, when the Nazis came to power, the family fled to Yugoslavia, and during the war, that's where the Nazis caught up with them, apparently having a long memory. My aunt is still alive, BTW. My father had a de-nazified former Waffen SS officer as an employee during the late 50s, who had shown him his blood group tattoo under his arm. I had heard about him growing up, but never met him until I was an adult, when this very cultured, well-dressed elderly gentleman with a cane and pronounced German accent came up to me and introduced himself at a relative's calling hours in the late 1980s. So many of the adult males in my family and in the small town I grew up in were WWII veterans, and growing up in the 60s, I loved TV shows like Combat, Rat Patrol, even the comedic ones, McHale's Navy and Hogan's Heroes. I've always loved history in general and having a connection to men who actually fought in WWII contributed to my fascination with that period in history. Sorry for the long reply, the topic always gets me on a roll, and I also type over 120 words/minute, lol!

    An interesting historical video.
A veteran brought to the former Great Western Gun and Collector's Show something in a brown paper bag. He wanted information about something he had brought back from the war. It was a thick silver standing photo frame with Herman Goring in his Reich Marshall uniform and I think holding the baton. At the top was the Goring Family Crest 6:38. There was an inscription ether on the front or the back of the photo. Someone who could read German said it read something like "Congratulations on your new home" and I think was addressed to his daughter or some other relative? I believe I once read he had given someone a home as a gift.

Hermann was crazy to collect any kind of arts. His house Karinhall was like a museum. Eveything was stollen. His brother was much different. Albert Günther Göring (9 March 1895 - 20 December 1966) was a German engineer, businessman, and the younger brother of Hermann Göring (head of the German Luftwaffe, founder of the Gestapo, and leading member of the Nazi Party). In contrast to his brother, Albert was opposed to Nazism, and helped Jews and others persecuted in Nazi Germany. He was shunned in post-war Germany because of his family name, and died without any public recognition, receiving scant attention for his humanitarian efforts until decades after his death.d

During the uprising in the Weimar republic Herman was shot 4 times in the chest and survived against all odds but became addicted to morphine and that addiction stayed with him all the way until the Nürnberg Trials at world war 2 s end - that was the problem for all that was in contact with Herman during the war , he had a very volatile behavior and people was scared to death being near him - strangely he put up a defense at the trials becauce he was become clean and stated that he wanted to be shot instead of the hangmanns nose but lost the case .

It is "Sylt", where the even smaller neighboring cottage cost the same, although it was never owned by a fat historical figure! It is due to the "normal insanity", not to some weird morbid historical ... It is Germany´s "Resort of the Richest", like that "Somewoman's Wine Yard" to the USA (just at the moment not remembering that first name of the place where Obama and else have their homes in former slave owner's vacancy homes 🙂) ... it is an Island that is left by the "inhabitants" with the last boat or train till the next morning, cause none of them working as staff for those Richies could effort to live there ... yep, insanity, but not Göring related.

Goering told this story to the US Army psychologist Dr. Gilbert while he was a prisoner and on trial at Nuremberg. Whether it's true or not I leave it up to you:
"I was in Munich after the war and was going to join the Masons. Well, I had a few hours to kill so I went to a bar for some drinks and there was a hot blonde sitting at one of the tables. I went over to chat with her, picked her up and we spent the rest of the day together so I missed my Mason's meeting.
The next day I went to hear Hitler speak and was VERY impressed with him and what he had to say so instead of the Masons I joined the National Socialists. So you see, the reason I'm sitting here in this cell is because of a hot blonde!"
If the story's true you're right, he didn't choose his friends very well.
