Geez guys enough with the criticism. He is being helpful and taking his time to try to help new players. I'm one of those new players and I appreciate it. Sure, some of the stuff is for higher level players. But . . . I like to think I catch on pretty quickly to games and this video has helped me a lot. The explanation of the sockets and armor/weapons was good. Thanks man

pretty good vid thnx, seems like some people mistake "things you should know" with "basic controls" the vid was right on spot, i didnt know most of these things when i started. and i was able to hear and understand what the OP was saying.

I normally hate talking in videos about games, but this is one of the few that was very informative. I been trying to get into this game, but haven't found the information I need. So thanks!

  • @Karl_Marksman

Hey, there's plenty of guides for people who just downloaded the game. And there's plenty of guides for people who already played and gimped a bunch of characters and need to know the min maxing of endgame builds. What's lacking is all the space in between. Yours is the first guide I've seen to cover that. Sure production quality could be better, but your tips are enlightening in a place where there isn't much good info.
I just started my sixth character after being away since the game was brand new, and I've finally managed to make a character that looks like it can actually reach endgame. Watching a bunch of guides, 90% which went over my head, 5% full of stuff like I already knew; "this is where you start, pick up the weapon and stab the zombie, put the gem in your weapon" Fucking DUH. Glad to see you cover the parts in between.

Dont listen to the nah-sayers, the voice was not nearly that bad and this video was super helpfull even if some info was a tad off like evasion. kudos and thanks, you helped me a ton.

I gotta say, even though I have no issues understanding complex mechanics of game such as this, I think this video is a bit overwhelming for a newbie. You talk about things you don't really explain what they are, or and jump from subject to another in such speed I can't really keep up. I'll get back to the video after I've played a good few hours

Thanks for taking the time. Details on how item links and energy shields work (or don't work) was especially useful. "Time is a currency"... brilliant. Best of luck.

The info is legit but this everything about this video is poorly organized and would be horribly confusing for a new player.

    • @alexdariar1950
      @alexdariar1950 9 лет назад +3

Not really, i only have a 10 shadow and a 7 witch and i understood it perfectly fine. It would be horribly confusing to a new player if they weren't very good at perceiving new aspects of an mmo-rpg. Also take into consideration (as he mentioned in the beginning of the video) that he was trying to not wake his roommate up.

Donny Biggerstaff I definitely understand where you're coming from. The list in the description should make it a tad easier but yeah, I just wanted to make something spur of the moment to help people in a game that throws a lot at you early.

Donny Biggerstaff I am a new player and I can understand what he is saying but the lack of articulation makes this almost unwatchable for me. There is only a touch on certain points but no depth explained which makes most of this information useless to me.

    • @TheAverlorn
      @TheAverlorn 9 лет назад +2

ZeroChaosInferno I pretty much concur with you there, I'm not trying to be fussy and I really appreciate where Plexicraft is coming from. The core of this video is at heart is a video to help beginners, but the articulation is pretty crusty rusty and is not appetising to watch/listen to. I just started this game and if you are going to make a vid for beginners the video has to be made for beginners not for people (it seems) that are actually familiar with most aspects of this game beforehand, and know what Plexicraft is on about no matter how haphazard/unarticulated he is. Because it seems most of the time he is just giving people tips that have more meaning for players that have already played through.

So I've lately been getting a lot of valid criticism about how complex this is for a "Newbies guide" type of video. The thing is, I never would have made this video if the game itself wasn't so ridiculously complex to begin with, which is what drew me to it. There is no "one stop shop" for gaining everything you need to know about POE because that's like saying someone can teach you everything about mathematics in one class.
The intent of this video was to help people not completely bork their first character if they didn't want to, keep new kids from vendoring key currency and explaining why it had value, and to cram as much complexity down into one video as possible. Feel free to continue leaving comments about how it's too complex to be a starter guide. The people this video is for will take something from it.
For those who think it is too complex, let me sum up what you need to know without getting into the complexities:
    Hit the monster.
    Pick up the stuff.
    Repeat.
For everyone else, please enjoy the video and continue to use it as a supplement to your knowledge base in this wonderfully dense and rich game.
    -Plexi

Are those things still applicable in the game? Or have they been patched/changed? Other than that, thanks for the vid :)

    • @GenericInternetter
      @GenericInternetter 7 лет назад

nope... nothing is too complex that it cant be broken down into manageable chunks. really think about that... how did the build rockets to mars? not easy to break down, but they did it. honestly this could have been 25 small bite-size videos instead of one big video... that would be a start

I haven't played this game yet but I enjoyed the video, and thought it was very informative. And I also understood about 80% of the things he talked about, the other 20% I'm are I'll have to actually roll a toon and play to know what it's all about.
And to all the critics: yea he sounds tired and maybe he's not the most energetic when it comes to explaining the game, but he does the job.
If you want fantastic dialogue and smooth transitions, go Netflix the latest Tarantino movie... You're on RUclips, and you just received free info...
Damn ungrateful people these days, right?

Thanks for helping me get started with this game dude. I appreciate your time and effort. Just started playing today and the amount of loot and the vast differences in loot you get had me scratching my head at times. I am the kind of player that picks up everyhting to sell it and that is not very feasible in this game.

hey guys. I'm happy you're alll leaving such helpful feedback and letting me know what's helpful and what's confusing. I apologize for the lack of clarity and the pretentiousness of some of these list topics. my goal was to make a one stop vid to get as many people up to speed on this amazing yet complex game as possible. I know it falls just a bit short of that so once I compile a list of other useful references (eg: ZiggyD's starter stuff) I will link them in the discription. thanks for being so supportive guys. See you in Wraeclast.... most likely current sofcore ladder :)

    • @krmunoz2169

Yeah maybe work more on the script, you started a little abruptly saying chrome recipe. What are chromatics ? Why do I want them ? Could've started a little bit on the core mechanics, not about the "dumb explanation" but important philosophies: items and crafting are an important core, the whole economy is built around it, even a white item can be valuable if it's a good base. Also rare items are "best in slot" in terms of stats, and unique items are worse but have good mechanics you may want to build around them,

Since you'll be traveling with dex and it's hard to get armor rating or energy shield this way, you'll want to travel to Iron Reflexes to turn you evasion into armor. This is nice because now you can benefit from dex nodes in a more reliable way, use evasion armor exclusively without worry if you like, and also make use of the hybrid Energy Shield/Evasion or Armor rating/Evasion gear pieces :)

The most important thing for newbie starting PoE is to have in mind that PST and green shards are not bargain if u using MND magic with mean percentage in chaos magic tree. If PQI is low, so no need to force your strength, cuz MND will not give u any advantage against HDMs and mid level bosses.

You can chain portals in Hardcore too... It's pretty common, to go back to refill your flasks.

Really liked the video! A bit jumpy in the order that you explain the different points though. Maybe like begin with class selection, then armor, then skill tree and so on. But that's just my opinion :) Good job sir! Love this game!

quick tip, a lot of casters do this and i think it's so easily remedied that it really shouldn't happen at all anymore. move your mic a few inches away so that you're not hissing all your "s"s into your listener's ears, it's extremely irritating.
Thanks for the info covered and everything though. Cheers.

Good video man, and regardless of some of the cho-mo's bitching and moaning below about having to "keep up" with the game...you really don't have to.
Hell, this video is over a year old and it's still perfectly relevant.
If anything, causally asking around on forums or via global chat will answer 99.9% of your questions regarding what's hot ans not, etc etc.
The other bunch is simply by reading patch notes and engaging yourself with the game, instead of just hitting cruise control and having everything spelled out to you.
This is bar none, the best Free To Play out there, without a fraction of a doubt as you genuinely don't have to spend a single cent for any reason other than a small layer of extra customization on the visual side of things.
And even with that, it's still cheap and supports the game, allowing the devs to continue updates with fixes, more content, expansions, tweaks, balances, items, monsters and features.
Really, unless you're doing leagues or hardcore...just play as you want, but at least have a grasp of general knowledge to the game and you'll be perfectly fine.
I've been playing this game on and off since the first beta and shortly after it's official release and then left for many mobths until the just released mini-expansion they just put out and I'm up to date with almost everything in just a matter of a few hours of playing.
But I surely haven't mastered everything, which is the key to this game.
Easy to learn, hard to master...which gives it it's longevity for people who enjoy that type of thing, while retaining it's casual side for more "an hour a day" or so players.
Not many games can pull that off, yet alone entirely free games that honestly require nothing from you.
And trust me, I've played LoL, Dota2,Hawken, Mighty Quest For Epic Loot, Planetside2, Warframe, Neverwinter and tons of other F2P games and none come close to the fairness nor the value of this game.
I've always felt that I needed to buy "this' or "that' to separate myself from the pack or be equal to the pack, but never in this game.
Im fact like I mentioned, everything is only cosmetic...no bullshit XP boosters, no limitations to unlock, nothing.
Oh minus an extra bank tab, which already gives you way more than enough space as it is.

That's a pretty fair observation but I figure it's a common enough item and knowing it's worth it to look for means it should have some value to new people whether they know what to do with it or not just yet :)

It's in open beta now, it will probably still be free to play at launch. They have a "cosmetic/aesthetic" micro-transaction thing on their website... you can use real money to buy in-game pets and special armor looks/weapon effects/new emotes/etc. that do not benefit you in the game by any means and is just for looks. They also have a thing where people can buy their way into part of the game design (make a weapon or armor or something) but that's awfully pricey so I wouldn't suggest it lol

Title of this video; "25 things you should know before starting Path of Exile"
Voiceover; "First one is, you can get chromatic orbs from tossing a three-linked piece of armor or weapon so long as they're linked and they have the three different colours and.."
Sorry i misunderstood, i thought by "25 things you should know before starting Path of Exile" you didn't mean one already had to be so casually familiar with in-game jargon that the above garble needed no explanation. My mistake.
I have yet to play the game longer than a few minutes at a time because i am unfamiliar with the interface mechanics. I doubt the "first thing" me (or anybody inm my position) would need to know is some internecine nuance i can't make any sense of - you know - because, like, i haven't played it yet, like you said i shouldn't have to.
