Information from someone with a felony in California: Police here in America are dirty and they will sit on the sidelines and discuss what to charge you with in order to secure an arrest. They can literally arrest you for anything they want to arrest you for and its up to the District Attorney to file a motion against you based on the evidence. The police do this because (Where you are at Felix; in California especially) You are taken into a Skype call with the judge within 48 hours of arrest and the judge's entire job at this point in your arrest is to get you to "wave your right to a speedy trial" By doing this and waving your right to a speedy trial the court system can secure an arrest for as long as they like in order to hold an inmate. When I was arrested I spent 6 months in jail even though I was innocent and I ultimately accepted a plea deal that finally gave me my freedom in exchange for admitting that I committed the crime. DO NOT TRUST THE LAW, DO NOT BELIEVE YOU ARE SAFE BECAUSE YOU ARE INNOCENT, DO NOT TALK TO THE POLICE, DO NOT WAVE YOUR RIGHTS, DO NOT DO IT! You are n0ot safe in this country. You can and will get arrested for anything the police make up. The reason that this is a thing is because; especially in California, the state gets bonds per inmate identification number based on crime. This bond is supposed to pay for your well being while incarcerated but instead the Judge, the District Attorney and any and all Public Defenders will cash in on your bond and split the money by tricking you into waving your rights and forcing you into plea deals. This way your bond is increased and the payout is much higher and you get bare minimum in jail eating old bologna sandwiches and sleeping on a high inch mattress.
