I dislike people justifying cheating as 'ho gya to ho gya, I hate myself and I shouldn't have done it but I did it and cant regret it' sort of thing, but as a film, as a fictional perspective of things on both sides, I can see how this might go. I am strongly against cheating. You can divorce, you can choose an out from your previous relationship if ur even doing emotional infidelity, causing pain to a person and constantly reminding them that u chose someone over them even while u were with them is def more painful.

I've been cheated once when I was in college. Although it wasn't really a very serious relationship but it definitely hurt. It's not just the cheating it is what ensues from the whole act. You doubt yourself, you feel like you weren't nice enough to her, you feel like you won't ever be successful in a relationship. Generally when your partner cheats on you, it is with someone who is close to you, most ofent then not, it's someone from your close circle and from there you grow trust issues. You'll feel terrible everytime you see her and every talk that comes after that is really a torture.

@@shaily191 everybody has different views and perspectives. It's not compulsory for people to see the movie from your POV. You have a different perspective of the movie just like everybody else.
Also, nobody questions when characters kill because it's not something that people are experiencing/will be experiencing daily in their lives or the chances of it happening are very low. On the other hand, cheating is something that people have/are/will be experiencing at some point in their daily lives, it's something that they can relate to (sometimes a lot). So cheating being 'possibly' glorified/justified in the movie triggers people more than killing.
It's very easy to say that a film is "just telling a story", because no matter how hard you try to deny it, movies HAVE a great impact on people.

There's a lot of grey in the middle too. I'd love to see it being explored onscreen. And, I trust Shakun Batra, the filmmaker who gave us Kapoor & Sons, to make you uncomfortable but in a good way.

Good that jAby is honest about his views and I agree. Lmao cheating is already bad but cheating with your own cousin’s close one is even more worse. At the same time we should not jump into conclusion, becoz the movie is not out yet. May be there’s more to the story and may be they will show improvising the character and learn their mistake but to me that still doesn’t count and it will not make a difference. Like Achara said we might be missing something here, which make sense too. Lastly they said - have we messed up. Well u know already if u lead to such affair, that’s an obvious. When u know u won’t get anything out of it yet u do it. Deepu says she doesn’t want to get hurt again. But Wb the others who will get hurt after knowing this. Trust and loyalty is something v hard to rebuild.

So both Siddhanth and Deepika’s character should have ended their relationship and then started their relationship. Maybe this movie will help those ppl who are going through these same things shown in movie to understand what is right and wrong and the consequences and how it affects everyone around it.

Another way to see it. Cinema is also an art for creators, inspired by life or fantasy, not an escape for audiences. Not every story is told for entertainment or a message/moral. It opens minds and not continues to box one’s mind loaded with personal beliefs and experiences. Look at the main characters of many Scorsese or Allen films, totally flawed and messed up… big time cheaters…. did they or those movies not earn accolades? It’s all in the story-telling. Some creators create for themselves and not necessarily thinking about their target audience. Can’t say about this movie without watching, but kudos to the makers for thinking out of the box. At the end, of course in a personal channel someone can share their personal reaction. Peace.

A lot of us see the movies for an escape and some treat movies as a moral compass, which it isn't. Movie are a reflection of the society and its an artform which depicts it beautifully on screen. I really enjoyed the movie not just because of amazing cinematography and music but also because everything in it feels real. The portrayal of Anxiety, Childhood traumas, flashbacks, Messed up relations with parents, Narcissism, The class divide. Everything felt so real, and I know it can be a lot to take in emotionally but you can't just call this a bad movie by critiquing it on the surface level ( based on the scene with physical intimacy and infidelity ) The movie is way more complex and layered than that, Trailer doesnt give away a lot of details.

Making movies not an easy task but making a great movie like this is even more challenging and almost impossible. Especially in a country like India where the majority of the people are obsessed with masala nonsensical patriarchal movies which sadly and clearly have messed up with the audience's mind. The story was engaging captivating right from the opening scene till the end and great use of symbolism throughout the movie which help me understand, sympathise and connect with those characters even more. I absolutely loved the story and the way it was presented. I loved the climax, it felt very real and heart-pounding and Thank you Shakun or the editor for not dramatising it with slow mo, background score effect. It was just perfectly executed and done in the most realistic manner. Deepika's choices of movies characters have always impressed me; she was Amazing in this movie; it's nice to see a star like her playing such realistic daring unique characters. I did not like what the trailer had to offer, probably I am wrong to judge a book by its cover, but a trailer can tell a lot about the movie, that is why they drop a trailer before a complete release. I dont watch a lot of hindi films, never really have, only watched certain Hindi films whose content just clicked with me. But gehraiyan didn't struck a chord and I am sorry for that. I agree 100% of what Jaby has to say. I don't enjoy stuff like this and I won't invest 2 hours to watch this, again keeping in mind that this is a movie and probably something like this happens in real life, but definitely happens in a certain kind of background. I don't associate myself with this and I get that the writers and makers consciously wanted the characters to be flawed and people are flawed, I get that but I don't get THIS ( by THIS I mean what we just saw in the trailer) Anyway, I'm glad that people have enjoyed the trailer and can't wait for this movie but for me, I couldn't care less and I'll rather pass. The content from a 2 minute trailer didn't really made me think to actually watch the movie. And for all these reasons I also never liked yet another Dharma productions film called kabhi alvida na kehna. I loved Kapoor and sons immediately after watching the trailer but could not love this.

If ya'll remember the trailer for Kapoor & Sons, it misled us to believe that the story was about a love triangle with 2 brothers and the girls but when you see the movie you see thats absolutely not what it is, it is a completely different and much deeper story. I feel like Shakun Batra is doing the same thing here again, it cannot be just a story about infidelity. Excited to check it out.

I mean Gehraiyaan Means depth..So there would be complexities in the characters its not our typical good guy vs bad guy you know.. They are covering grey areas more..Its not day to day movie..I need to have a certain mood to watch this film...BTW beautiful Cinematography & Theme..

The characters in Gehraiyaan will not be likeable! This is not a story where u will feel empathy for characters! They all r GREY! The fact that people can't understand that characters aren't built only to be liked by audience! CHARACTERS AREN'T ALWAYS +TIVE.

This film is very underrated by audiences because it was marketed as a cheating movie, but the movie goes much deeper than that. You don’t sympathize with the characters in this story, but the situation itself is out of control. Mix of drama and thriller. The music, as well as the visuals, are very unique.

Jaby said accurately. This is an American indie film wrapped with bollywood tag. I had vibes of Naomi watts, Mark Ruffalo starred "We don't live here anymore". Like jaby I can't take a story told to sympathize character who cheats and rott. We all know how it's gonna end.

I totally get that the movie doesn’t sit well with Jaby’s morality, but as a reactor/reviewer, I think he’s just got to be more open and sit through it, as objectively as possible, and discuss his thoughts with his audience. He’s welcome to hold his position on infidelity, nobody enjoys watching people cheating, but it is the reality of many relationships, unfortunately.
