  • Here are 6 musical pioneers I picked out as my favourite contributors to the western music we know today. I could have picked loads more, so keeping it to a list of 6 was an interesting challenge. Who would you have picked? Leave suggestions in the comments if you like :) Dex

Loved this one, Dex! It's funny that we tend to take so much in our modern world for granted... things like notation, etc., are often just assumed to be a given! To see how music has evolved (and then, some would say, DEVOLVED) is quite fascinating! I always appreciate and enjoy your take on things! Cheers!!

Thanks Jim, although I did notice my choices were all male when there are also a lot of female composers of note, although probably more recent... that may be another video :)

OK, I'll play, but I have NOT WATCHED YOUR VIDEO, so I do not know who your 6 are. Pioneers mine: The Beatles, Beethoven, Jimi Hendrix, Charlie Parker, J.S. Bach, Little Richard

Nice choices... I think I probably went a bit more from a development of music history point of view... but I can't deny those are definitely pioneers of music... Thanks for taking the time to play! Dex :)

Euro-centric much? Seeing as how the entire world listens to music created by or influenced directly and indirectly by Black Americans I’m shocked you didn’t include any of them.

OK... who would you have included before 1900?... Because I'm not changing Shoenberg (Austrian/American) in the 20th Century as he introduced the 12-tone technique that all musicians (including Black Americans and Women and Trans-Gender) use today. Remember the conversation is about Musical Pioneers not equal rights.
