We flew Singapore to Amsterdam and return Manchester to Singapore in premium economy on 3/9 & 10/10. Second time we have done this but I pay extra for the H & K seats which have great leg room and I can get up move around and stretch easily. I think the seats are bigger/ wider and I can sleep in them. Unfortunately have to do Brisbane to Singapore and Singapore Brisbane in economy as SA didn’t offer Premium on this leg. I hate it as we have someone else in the row plus I get the middle seat which is always crap on any flight.
Always frustrating but sadly just part of flying. I got re-route a few times due to late connections or over booking and lost the window seat. It would be interesting to see what your experience would be like if you weren't in the front row with the extra leg room. I personally found the recline of the seat in front a bit much and couldn't get out. Usually in economy I can just about step over the person next to me but this wasn't possible.

Thank you for this very fair and comprehensive review. I've got a flight on the A380 to Germany soon and I can't wait to try out premium economy. I haven't flown with SQ for about 15 years so this should be interesting. I know for a fact that I'm big sized enough to be uncomfortable in economy but pretty comfortable in premium economy seating. You may also want to try out starlux which is Taiwans new airline. I had very good experiences with them on both economy and premium economy.
Always appreciated, we try and be on point and not drag it out with unnecessary blah. Hopefully you've got yourself a seat in the 2 part and not the 4 and the window seats have that extra curviture of the plane so an extra 30cm+ of shoulder, arm space. It's interesting a lot of people are talking about Starlux. Are you flying them? We do have a flight with them on the A350 next year in Business Class in April. Will may be give them a good try over different products and plane types. Thanks for watching ✈️📺👀
@@liftoffandtravel Thanks for the tip! I wouldn't have known this if you did not mention it! Yes i've flown Starlux Premium economy last January from Singapore to Taipei and the prices were really competitive. IT cost me 800 SGD or 613 USD in todays exchange rate whereas it would cost me 900 SGD to sit in SQs economy class to Taipei. SQ doesnt seem to offer Premium economy to Taipei. This for to and fro. They have their own app and miles called Cosmile and you can "book to cook" before your flight. The food is pretty good especially coming from Taipei. I cant remember if it was served in porcelain dishes or not but i didnt really care for it because it was a shortish flight and i was wolfing down the food. Their Premium Economy seats were really comfortable but honestly it was my first time seating Premium Economy. I managed to fall asleep during the 4 hour flight and i am not the kind of person who falls asleep easily on any forms of transportation. They had a fair selection of entertainment however there were alot of Mandarin speaking shows but i hope this will improve when you get on your flight next year. The screen was pretty big, almost if not the same as SQ Premium economy and was very responsive. Their service was fantastic and they called me by my name during the flight which was a nice touch. Their luggage limit is very generous. For Premium economy they allow 2x 23kg luggage. I confimed this myself by calling their agents as i was really very surprised when i saw it. A whopping 46kg on a flight in a non business/first class? Almost unheard of. Even SQ Premium economy there is a max limit of 35kg. Lastly, if you'd like a souvenior, id highly check out their merch which can be bought on the app and delivered to you in flight. I find they have pretty nice designs on lanyards and such. Sorry for the rant, i'm just really impressed with Starlux and it seems they do try their best to live up to their name and bring LUXURY to their passengers. I'll be flying with them this December again just because i was impressed on my first flight with them. Fun facts: 1) Their CEO is still a pilot and flies the Taipei to LAX route on a regular basis 2) He is the son of the Evergreen group founder (which owns EVA Air) Thanks for reading this far!
@@teutons87 no seriously I really appreciate the information. Every part of it was useful. We really should have decided to fly them earlier. Sadly no timing in the schedule at the moment. That is a very generous allowance! Particularly if you have extras, plenty of souvenirs or a family to pack for. We always love a goodie to take home... But no more planes. I have enough 😂 I love that the CEO is like sorry I can't deal with that right now I have to work the flight 😂✈️
@@liftoffandtravel Well, they are not cheap! I think it’s now $46 SGD ( incl. service fee & tax) at the Long Bar Raffles Hotel, but it is such an iconic place to have it at. I know other bars around Singapore are much cheaper than the Long Bar. But hey, " when in Rome"….
That is a good question. Although the product on Emirates A380 seems older we were very impressed by the food offering. I could be wrong but I felt like there was slightly more on the Inflight entertainment to. It's tough if you're by the window because there is so much space on the lower deck because of the curvature of the A380. So really comes down to price. A small different Singapore. Otherwise I'd go Emirates economy. Hope that helps.
Emirates economy has better seats and service is great too. Even Emirates premium economy looks better than the SQ ones. Haven't tried the Emirates PE. Did SQ PE on a short haul A350. But didn't leave much of an impression on me
@Optimus19 it has great bare bones but the service let it down a little. They ran out of dishes and I got hungry nearly to landing so got offered a sandwich only for them to start the meal service 10 minutes later. I would have waited but had to review it so was then bloated 😂
Great question, I normally avoid seats near the toilet because of the obvious noise reasons. Not being able to sleep I had the headphones on for most of the flight but didn't really notice the bathroom. Ideally avoid these seats because of though.
That Premium Economy looks good. I guess it depends on your budget, the route, and the plane. Personally, I wouldn't mind the splurge once in a while and might even try to gamble with an upgrade, depending on the price. Great video. Thank you. What was that background song? It sounded kind of catchy.
Thanks we appreciate it 😊 so true about price. We did it because the difference was a couple of hundred for a 13hr route. I certainly wouldn't pay closer to £1000. Unfortunately I'm away on another adventure 🌍 and the song is on the pc at home. Will see what I can do to find the song name.
@@franklinloo2160 I'm 5'9 so not far of but noted that when Brent is in Club Europe on British Airways he finds it a bit tight where as I'm more than happy. He is 5'11. I would strongly suggest go for the bulk head rows at the front. Particularly when the chair infront reclines it's impossible to get out without the person next to you moving.
@iswearnotme I'm 5'9 and I find most economy products a compromise when it comes to the shoulder width. Americans 777 is one of the worst because I can't even drop my arms without being on the arm rest and you have to share with the person next to you. Someone once said you should travel in the highest cabin you can because what you are gaining is space, comfort and the chance to be more relaxed and refreshed at your destination. Price being the obvious reason why we don't follow that advice. Anyway SQ Premium Economy does give you a few extra inches in the width but I found the pitch tight perhaps it's the seat design particularly when the seat infront was declined so ideally aim for the front row.
@ yeah it’s not great. I think flying in general is very taxing on the system. I flew premium with Cathay a few weeks ago from Chicago to Hong Kong, 16.5 hours, and it was barely tolerable. But I can’t imagine having to suffer through that flight in a regular economy seat. I think premium economy makes the travel much more comfortable and is worth the cost especially if you travel relatively infrequently for leisure.
@@iswearnotme exactly but ouch 16.5hrs! You are brave unless you had no choice. I find anything up to 8hrs is okay but then dehydration kicks in and then you are torn between annoying the people next to you every 2hrs and getting a cold. First world problems I know 😂 Have you ever managed to sleep in Premium Economy?
Just finished a trip where we took SQ round trip in PE from SFO-SIN. My answer as to whether it’s worth it? Honestly, no. In terms of the soft product (service, cuisine), it’s great. In terms of the hard product, for me, it was bad. I’m 6’2” tall and even with the increased seat pitch in PE, I suffered for almost 16 hours on the way to SIN and 15 hours on the return. Is it better than economy? Of course. But I will not be repeating the flight in PE. We have two future trips where we have a combination of points and paid business class tickets. The paid flight was a great deal at $3699 round trip. In the future, if we’re flying PE to SE Asia, we’ll stick with JAL and ANA, both of which have very good PE seats. Plus, the stop in Japan gives us a chance tostretch out for a while before continuing.
@@stevenelson3515 even at 5'9 it can be a struggle. I like sleeping on my side so most non Business class seats are an issue. If your back had more support to make it flatter it might work. Sadly sitting up right is just not ideal for the human body. Do you try and get the exit row where possible?
@@stevenelson3515 unfortunate, If you have the funds available then consider registering and downloading the app. Sometimes they offer upgrades to Business or Premium. Not always at value prices 😕😏
@@liftoffandtravel Got the app. Unfortunately, I had booked this flight through Chase Ultimate Rewards to double dip on points and miles. SQ said you can’t upgrade a ticket booked like that with miles or through their MySQUpgrade program.
I picked up a SQ premium economy ticket from SFO-SIN for only US$695 for a flight last March on the 350-900ULR. I then spent extra for unlimited legroom in the first row (all the throne seats were taken). I'm 196cm tall, so I really need leg room for flights over 4-5 hours. I found the seats a little shallow and the calf rest to be useless. Also the IFE screen coming up from the seat was a little low. It was almost a 17 hour flight so it was an endurance as I woke up every hour or so. I'm flying to Bangkok in November in EVA's PE. Is it worth twice the price of economy? Not is you are of average or below height. But at my height there isn't really a choice. Two years ago on a flight to Taipei I remember flying EVA's PE and it was fine, but burned into my mind was how miserable some larger passengers looked in economy.
@@pcmacintyre I'm excited for the coming years because Singapore Airlines is currently working on their next business class products. The only one is good but things have come a long way. As for EVA most Premium Economy products are pretty standard just with different colours and design aspects. I'm 5'9 and find most of them pretty comfortable but it's hard to imagine being 196cm. Also depends if your height is more in your legs or torso. Best thing you can do is obviously go for an exit aisle with the extra space. What plane, route or time are you flying so I can try and have a look at some seat maps
@@liftoffandtravel I'm mostly leg so that's a factor. I'm flying from SFO which usually has the 777 with the 3-4-3 configuration in economy. LAX often has the 777s with 3-3-3 in economy and the PE seats with the calf rests. My flights between TPA and BKK are also the 777. I see EVA has started using A330s on that route and discontinued the 787-10s. EVA premium economy tickets don't include lounge access like the Japanese carriers, but if you have at least Silver status in their frequent flyer program you can access EVA lounges with a PE ticket.
@@pcmacintyre I flew EVA Air from AMS- BKK , but in economy. I was impressed with the level of service & food . I can imagine you won’t be disappointed with their Premium Economy, since they originally brought in the Premium Economy seat concept.
If it fits within your budget the premium economy upgrade is that little bit of extra luxury for a long trip, ideal for a couple with a 2 4 2 seating configuration no hassle with a extra body next to you although economy is still great with Singapore airlines premium is just that little bit of extra comfort.
Totally agree! Space is comfort. No one wants to fly in a coffin ⚰️. The problem is that it's not always good value. I've seen it sometimes cheaper than economy because of availability and sometimes double the price 😒 And yes love the 2 seats together 💺
Plan to pick the front row of premium eco, I noticed the middle row having their screen on the wall, but on the side rows, I dont see a screen, do they also have screens? is it similar to eco where the screen arm comes out of the seat?
A good question and a diffuclt one to answer. I had a quick look on Google images and once I managed to sift out the A350 it appears from a another reviewers article that they do also have TVs on the wall. For a moment I wonder if it was the bulk head was too far away and may be it was within the middle of the seat divide. Hope that helps.
Unfortunately not, we are going to try and do more Premium Economy next year. We have flown Cathay Pacific and they were very good. Might give Qantas and Air New Zealand ago at some point.
@@liftoffandtravelQantas food is pretty good, Air NZ even better. When Air NZ had the spaceship layout for premium, it was almost like business class, but they've gone back to seats in a row like the other airlines. I was hoping to fly Emirates to Dubai but might need to change plans now.
@@catherineduc that's a shame, any idea why they reverted back? I admit their old Business Class has never been on my radar. Lovely in white but just a bit out of date. I say this as someone who is about to fly Virgins 787 next week 🤣 Do you still get Emirates 777s? or have they swapped to A380s?
@@liftoffandtravel I think it took up too much room with the configuration. It was so good though - you couldn't really see the person sitting next to you plus you could put your feet up properly as it was like a lounge. I think Virgin premium economy was better than Qantas last time I flew (before 2020). Just went with Qantas since then since there are more options if flights get cancelled. @@catherineduc definately a positive, although I haven't yet sat next to anyone and thought oh GOD this is going to be a long day! Someone once asked me how much is it for a flight to Brasil in Business Class. So I replied how much is a car? I certainly wouldn't pay 2500 euros for Premium economy over a 600 euro economy seat. I wouldn’t fly premium economy at all with Singapore airlines very disappointed and the seats were very tight …I was happier in economy for the next leg 😂😂😂
What made it feel tight? I guess the hard table between seats can make it feel like the width isn't great. I was expecting to love it far more than British Airways version but it just failed to wow.
Buiness class and first class are for really rich people, because they are the most worst value for the money. You get more value in hotels rooms upgrades or better hotels.
It's an interesting way to look at things. You could argue that you spend more time in the hotel during a holiday so that's where the money should be spent. Depends of course on where you are going. In New York we are barely in the hotel room except to rest and sleep.
Flew Singapore PE for my wedding and honeymoon and it was terrible. Never again. They didn’t even seat my husband and I together for one of the legs of the flight and we had no way to pre book the seats prior! Food is bad, seats are uncomfortable, service is poor. Don’t recommend!

Then mine turned up and it was the same meal 😒 I did like the seat though but it's so hard to sleep in anything upright 💺
Thanks for that - you were way more apologetic than the staff! I’m not sure what happened. We booked our tickets 7 months in advance and were only able to pre allocate our seats on the SIN-LAX legs, the SYD-SIN were both showing up as all unavailable from the moment we booked and we constantly checked back to see if there were any room to move. We never ended up being able to book these ones, on the first leg it was fine because we were still sitting together but the final leg they separated us. I tried calling reservations and asking many staff for help but they were very unhelpful and just kept stating it’s a full flight. I get it but how is it possible we in PE aren’t even able to book the seats in the first place? I had a previous bad experience with them flying to Moscow so this is the final straw for SQ for me.
Don't get me wrong I fly sq often and love as it's our airline but when I fly Qantas and Cathay pe trust me sq is a sad case ...they are looking at upgrading their product by the end of this year or early next year...❤
It's interesting because most people rave but SQs product is actually a little outdated. It's very grand and a comfortable space but it lacks some much needed privacy. Also can't believe they didn't opted for a touch screen. Will be interesting as you say the next few years with Cathay on the upgrade, SQ thinking about it to
SQ is overpriced. They used to have the newest fleet in the industry and the cabin crew were great. For the past 5 yrs, the cabin has been patched work and the crew fake smile all the time

@@kavin4369 it's a difficult choice. If the price is right then I'd always pick Premium Economy because of the extra space. It's also less annoying asking on person to move when you need the toilet.
@kavin4369 the different is under 10% so if it was me I would pay that purely for the extra space, boarding and alighting early but it's up to you if you think it's good value.
SQ premium is a scam to force you to pay extra when upgrading to business with points. I used to upgrade on my flights to Europe. SQ added a single row of premium seats between economy and business and there is never a single person in these seats.
I'm surprised as the flight I was on was full. They did offer me a some what reasonable upgrade to Business Class but that would have defeated the point of the review. @@kencarruthers6714 ultimately when it comes to Premium Economy perhaps the food is better but really you're just paying for the extra room which does make a difference. Sadly it doesn't necessarily make sense price wise. I recently flew on Americans 777 in economy and in a 3:4:3 layout my god the seats are small. My shoulders slightly over lap with the person next to me 😕 and I'm no giant
Agreed. I’ve used premium economy with BA, Virgin and Singapore. Just a bit more space, as you say, but a shame they don’t give a few more perks, like better food in the lounge
Absolutely not. What a joke. It was no different to economy. The seat was slightly wider. There was a light attached to the top of the seat instead of ceiling and that’s about it. Food exactly the same as economy and shocking at that. Total rip off. I would have been more comfortable paying for exit row seat than this. Economy on the shortest leg of the flight was so cramped. Will not fly with them again in any class.
@@mandiigraham1596 this seems to be a common theme. I suspect it's the hard divide between the seats which makes it slightly more restricted. I was quite pleased with the recline but when you compare it to say Norse it's just not enough to sleep well. As for the food I think they use different dishes to enhance the experience but yes the food is really similar. Probably better of as you say with the exit row in economy. Thanks for the feedback 👍
From my perspective worth it, but I guess that also depends on how much extra you actually paid. There are a number of differences, which a previous commenter has completely missed, or perhaps their experience was some time ago. The comfort is better as are the lots of little extras and we certainly were able to pre book food from a larger menu. plus other things like extra luggage allowance, faster boarding, etc. To me the seat is just better for resting/sleeping and I make full use of the 38” pitch when reclining that extra 6 inches seems to make a much bigger difference. I reckon the little benefits don't add much to the value perhaps only say £100-£150, so the rest you pay is down to comfort. if your not likely to be sleeping much then probably not good value.
@@mhb1005 yes there's a big push for space. Everything else is to just differentiate it from economy. It used to be the metal cultlery but some airlines even in economy now have metal. Agreed every extra inch helps make it more pleasant 💺

My wife and I flew Singapore Airlines Premium Economy in July 2023 from Sydney to London and return. It was not good. The food was just ok not great and I chose book the cook. The calf and foot rest was totally useless for me being 6ft1 as it didn’t even touch my calves. The foot rest under the seat in front was ok. I had a window seat and would have been good to put a pillow against the wall to help with sleep but the gap between seat and wall was so far I would have ended up with back problems to reach it. Having extra room between the seats compared to economy made no difference when both people in front had their seats reclined. To get out I had to get my wife to stand up and still had to climb over her seat. I couldn’t sleep and had the worst jet lag I’ve ever had. We never received or was offered an amenities kit, but seeing what you got I’m glad we didn’t. My screen often stopped working too. The only good part was the crew, they were great. I don’t thinks it’s worth paying that much for premium economy over economy. I wouldn’t pay for premium again. Next year we’re flying back to Europe flying business class on emirates going over and Qatar on way back. Should be a lot better.
Interesting feedback and yes that is a hell of a route for jet lag. I generally find I can't sleep (except for Norse) in economy or Premium Economy. The extra space is nice but yes the food wasn't amazing. It was tasty though. On the plus side there was only one person next to me when I needed to the bathroom but with the seat infront reclined it was hard to get out. Would you fly it again or stick to economy?
Well of course Business class is going to be better than Premium Economy! What would have been better , if you chose to fly Premium Economy with Emirates, to compare both carriers products.
Fun facts:
1) Their CEO is still a pilot and flies the Taipei to LAX route on a regular basis
2) He is the son of the Evergreen group founder (which owns EVA Air)

How do you think emirates normal economy and singapore premium economy compare?
That is a good question. Although the product on Emirates A380 seems older we were very impressed by the food offering.
I could be wrong but I felt like there was slightly more on the Inflight entertainment to.
It's tough if you're by the window because there is so much space on the lower deck because of the curvature of the A380.
So really comes down to price. A small different Singapore. Otherwise I'd go Emirates economy.
Hope that helps.
@ thanks!
Did the visitors at the toilet bother you at 37A. Do they have bassinet at PE area?
Great question, I normally avoid seats near the toilet because of the obvious noise reasons.
Not being able to sleep I had the headphones on for most of the flight but didn't really notice the bathroom.
Ideally avoid these seats because of though.
Good review.

Nice vid. Thank you for sharing. Having said that I'm 6 footer. I don't know if it was tight if I were there for SQ PE.
I am 6'2 and I really think premium is worth it for us tall people. It makes a long flight considerably more tolerable.
First world problems I know 😂
Have you ever managed to sleep in Premium Economy?
@@liftoffandtravel It was already taken when we booked.
I've seen it sometimes cheaper than economy because of availability and sometimes double the price 😒
And yes love the 2 seats together 💺
Plan to pick the front row of premium eco, I noticed the middle row having their screen on the wall, but on the side rows, I dont see a screen, do they also have screens?
is it similar to eco where the screen arm comes out of the seat?
A good question and a diffuclt one to answer. I had a quick look on Google images and once I managed to sift out the A350 it appears from a another reviewers article that they do also have TVs on the wall.
For a moment I wonder if it was the bulk head was too far away and may be it was within the middle of the seat divide.
Hope that helps.

Agreed. I’ve used premium economy with BA, Virgin and Singapore. Just a bit more space, as you say, but a shame they don’t give a few more perks, like better food in the lounge
Not food in the lounge but in the plane!
Absolutely not. What a joke. It was no different to economy. The seat was slightly wider. There was a light attached to the top of the seat instead of ceiling and that’s about it.

The question is why?
