    I had the privilege of watching the Fijians at the Middlesex Sevens back in the early 70’s. They wiped the board.
    Then and now, arguably the best rugby players I’ve ever seen.

      They are great rugby sevens players but have won nothing at the 15 per side rugby however i think the time will come if the Pacific islands could keep their best players instead of playing for Australia and NZ then they would produce teams that might win the world cup.

      @@patrickkelly7085 I don't think its fully the poaching straight out, its the whole system of locking people up in feeder clubs overseas and locking up players who can represent up till last minute, not to mention how most of the time the players have to pay their own tickets and was their own clothes at matches... bru... ha ha ha ha. Money might make a difference.

    Fijians are some of the best speedsters. Amazing pound for pound strength if not outright strength or size. A collection of fijian wingers are easily some of the best ever.

      Not one of them come close to Jonah Lomu.
      I don't think they are pound for pound that strong. That is the whole point they are much bigger than their opponents most of the time. Pound for pound strength it must go to the SA sevens players, they are much smaller than the Fijian players but they cut them down and dominate them in the rucks although they are much smaller and lighter. If those SA sevens players had the Fijians size and weight they would have destroyed everybody.

      @@wlk2408 fijians are really strong pound for pound ive seen them in the gym. Samoans and tongans dont seem to be strong pound for pound in the slightest. Its a coin toss whether they are strong at all most the time. But they are always big.

Yes the caliber of squad he was on played a factor in his success, as it does with any standout, but he was an absolute beast with power and more so speed that is not seen in players of his size.

      Yeah but we talking rugby here. And rugby consist of lots of running and tackling along with the ability to think on the fly which is known as intelligence. And out of all the “pacific islanders” in the South Pacific Ocean which one is strongest when it comes to rugby which consists of running , tackling, and making smart intelligent decisions on the fly??? It’s them Fijians. But when it comes to Hollywood/ acting and just sitting around looking pretty, well thats were them other “Pacific Islanders” come inn. But this video is specifally talking about strength in rugby and not talking about strength in culture.

      And to add on to what im trying to say is…we already know that there is other Pacific Islanders out there beyond the fijians. We know that already but what this video is trying to say is fijians are the strongest Pacific Islanders in rugby. They are very consistent. We know there are philopinos islanders out there, we know there’s Cambodian or Papa new Guinnie islanders out there. We know there’s Samoan islanders out there…. But according to the stats them fijians have 2 rugby Olympic gold medals in a row while the other Pacific Islanders have none.. do you see what i mean.

      @@stallionxxx7734 Sorry to burst you bubble but rugby sevens is a very small sport. Rugby union the 15 man game is much bigger. If South Africa, England, France, New Zealand , Australia, Argentina, Scotland, Wales, Italy, Ireland should take sevens as serious as Fiji does it will be a very different ball game.
      In real rugby, rugby union I don't know if Fiji is still better than Samoa, maybe maybe not.

      @@wlk2408 15s is cool if you are only big and dumb. 7s rugby is more for intelligent, super athletic, big people. Why do you think 7s rugby is in the Olympics and not 15s? Its because 7s rugby actually breeds real Olympians. What makes an Olympian you may ask? Well to be an Olympian, you have to be good at running, jumping, wrestling, throwing and most of all intelligent. Rugby 7s breeds these types of traits. You don't really need to be intelligent in rugby 15s. You can be super dumb but still win in rugby 15s. You can not be dumb in rugby 7s or you will loose. See the difference? LoL

      @@wlk2408 All those countries you mentioned are champion on their own right in 7s as well. South africa just won the commonwealth games and NZ is the current World cup 7s . That is the beauty of 7s it is anyone's game. If FIji, Samo or Tonga are given an equal opportunity in 15s like playing regular with tier one nations they will be a threat to Bigger nations with biigger budget. Remember NZ and Australia consists more that 50% of Pacific Island decedent playing for them.. By the way FIji is rank higher than Samoa and also they were the only tier two nations they ranked 8 at one time. Fiji always give some tier one nations a run of their money...

    My father was Conscripted into the New Zealand Army after the February 1941 ABC Washington Military Conference and was in Fiji as a Private Soldier by April. By December WO2 K. V. Paul was Standing To on the Back Beaches after Pearl Harbour as part of 8 Brigade Group, really just four Battalions of Kiwis with the 1 + 2 Regiments Fiji Defence Force, with Five Rounds of Ammo per Man and the 2 NZEF left in Greece, Crete and Egypt, to deal with German Paratroopers on Crete and Rommel at Alemein. The Fijian were his "Firm Friends". Fortunately, My Mum Sank Two Japanese Carrier Groups with her Rosary Beads. Bulla, Bulla!

      I don’t know what rugby games you’ve been watching but them fijians are not only big, strong and super fast, they also are very super intelligent. How do you think they won not one but two Olympic gold medals in a row??? And 7s rugby requires a high level of intelligence compared to 15s because 15s is more about just being big and strong. Them fijians won 2 Olympic gold medals in 7s rugby which basically proves my point in itself. Fiji rugby players are not only big, strong and fast, they are super intelligent too.

      @@stallionxxx7734 ...15 is more PHYSICAL than 7s. 7s suit our Fiji brothers because it offers more SPACE. With 15s you LOSE that SPACE and GAPS are a lot less frequent. Where 7s on average you NEED to beat 2 men a time, easy for Fiji Strength and Agility. In 15s you COULD face double. DIFFERENT DISCIPLINES.

      @@nem8587 the rule protecting players form the strong Island boys are the one not to tackle high, but even that rule doesn't protect the players as the Island boys still do it.
      The other rules are more technical rules and the Island boys simply aren't very good mastering different techniques , they like to play basketball too much.

    Auckland (New Zealand's largest city) has the largest Pacific island population in the world and they've been in NZ for generations. The most overused myth is that NZ poaches the best talent from the Pacific islands but most of those players are grandchildren or great grandchildren of immigrants or moved to NZ as a child and played all or most of their rugby in NZ. Many of NZ's best boxers, MMA fighters, netball players and Olympic athletes are of Pacific island descent. Even NZ's military and police force are stacked with Pacific islanders.

    Lack of tier one games is sad. Island teams gets a tier one opponent lucky if once a year. How is that growth? Argentina gets regular games hence steady improvement. Only team wasting that opportunity is Italy.

    If Europe, Japan, America, Australia and New Zealand stopped stealing away the brightest talent from Fiji, they would be one of the best teams on earth.
    That's why I respect the Springboks, they only recruit local South African talent and they do well with what they've got.

      Give us time..this year is just our first year in Super Rugby...now when we are trained in the same way other professional teams are trained and play together as a team rather than camping only for 2days - 2 weeks before playing tier 1 teams..we will get there..

      It's not a shame at all. Pacific Islanders don't have the facilities or the proper funding like the tier 1 countries. Fiji is a top 10 country in 15s and is one of the best team in 7s history together with NZ. So for a small island nation to be ranked top 10 in 15s and one of the best in 7s is something not to be ashamed off.

      Imagine if we had the funds and the resources to have kept developing the rugby culture, players and the presence of that 2011 Manu team as other teams had like Wales, Ireland and Argentina to now.
      Samoa made a statement that RWC with its best foot forward the possibility had they been given a fair shot at it, there was just no backing to follow through heck even it's own government were snakes at the time.
      Other pacific teams wanna talk now, our 2011 team would destroy any Pacific team, no cap.

      Correction they beat Melbourne as well. They came close to be Queenland reds, Highlanders and Chiefs. Not bad for a team that is first outings in super rugby who are made up of 80 % local players playing semi professionals compared to quality and high paid players playing in other super rugby team ...Give us another 2 years than you will see how it goes
