Yes, you eventually have to tune your drones to the chanter, but Karl is pointing out the BASICS of listening to the sound waves to teach you how to tune the drones to themselves. The second step is tuning the drones to the Low A on the chanter. I think Karl is doing a great job of teaching you how to listen to the pitch. The fine art of using your ear is being lost to the electronic tuner. Thank you Karl !
The 1st thing that came to mind when they were all tuned is one of those massive lights at the top gymnasiums. Very impressive similarities. That was also extremely satisfying.
Have you made a video about tuning drones to the chanter? Also, how about a video transitioning from practice chanter to bagpipes for the first time for beginners. Thank you!
VERY NICE, Karl! Understanding, that when it's "out-of-tune", we can hear... rolling 'Harmonics'. TUNING is bringing that 'rolling' sound into a smooth Blend.. by twisting and changing the distance between the parts.. until that sound STOPS rolling and becomes ONE sound. Thanks!
i have been told to "listen" but no one ever explained WHAT i am listening for and how to fix it. Thank you for the good video with good enough sound to hear the waves. Thank you !
Hallo, vielen Dank ! I have today so much difficulties to tune my drones. i didn't know this vimportant point point with waves sound. It should be now more easier to tunes. Thank you again.
@Maxwell Smart Then this is just a video showing what "in tune" and "out of tune" the drones are, and is NOT showing how to tune drones because the tuning of drones takes chanter as a reference.
They are all tuned to A. The tenor drones are tuned to A one octave below the chanter, and the bass drone is tuned to A two octaves below the low A on the chanter.
I think it’s just to give the viewer a sense of what they should listen for when bringing them in... I think a chanter video is in order before this tho... also all this pissing around with the plugs is getting under my skin... plugs are for pressure testing and cheaters

danke!
why take the chanter out? After all, you tune the drones to the chanter
Instrument testing in the quiet room hopefully doesn't bothering trevor and also sending picture of the bottom
Do you really have to squeeze hard at first? Does it automatically tune when you do that.
Without the chanter, the tuning of drones is useless!
true, but not the point of the video.
I've had my pipes for about a week, and I was as happy as a 🐷 in 💩 to find a video that focused on the drones

@@galax574 thanks for stating the obvious
Sir how many cost of reed set? Indian
as a rule of thumb you want your intro to be no longer than 15 seconds
How do you know the drones are in tune with the chanter doing this? You don't Tune one tenor to the chanter, remove chanter and progress
Could you tell us. What us the notes of the three drones?
They are all tuned to A. The tenor drones are tuned to A one octave below the chanter, and the bass drone is tuned to A two octaves below the low A on the chanter.
I hear this gurgling sound in your start-up. What is the purpose of that?
Nice pipes but he should tune drones to chanter or its sounds mcshitty
Fingal idk why but I wheezed. Mcshitty lmao. That’s great
i have bamboo drones and they make no sound
So what your saying is you have to prep the fifes
Volume is too low in the video.
Sounds like our civil defense sirens.
And play golf!
Your blow a different pressure with the chanter in not great
Video is too quiet
????
I want to where the outfit without playing the bagfifes.
I think the bagpipes put it all together
