Here is the latest progress of the Sonic 1 Animated project. Since the last previews I've added additional sound effects and music. I also fixed some minor bugs. I am gonna add voices soon; just wanted to get a lot of the animation work done first. Note that the mouth movement isn't done since I don't have the lines in yet. Currently Gamebuddy from the Sonic Shorts will be Sonic and Eggman but most of the badniks I have yet to choose a voice actor. I still have a ways to go on the special stage and after that some more green hill zone and the boss fight.
You can show support by either:

I wasn’t sold on the art style at first, but by the end I was loving everything to bits. Using more basic shapes to create more fluid animation sequences was a great call.
The cinematography is amazing as well! The camerawork was so dynamic!
What he said, took some getting used to, but if that style is helping you make the action scenes as smooth as they are, it makes this a master peice!

*This was waaaay too good!!!* I love how true it stayed to the games while explaining game mechanics and details with a story perspective that actually makes sense. Like the signpost, and why Sonic always decides to stay in a ball during the special stages. Even the rabbit hole part was a nice detail. You've been working on this forever and it shows to be paying off quite handsomely. Can't wait for the full thing! Your music choice, Sonic's personality, and how fluent his moves are really are a sight to behold! I like
The little explanations for all the different setpieces and game mechanics are definitely what makes this project shine above the rest, that's for sure!

Hmm... as for plot lines that you might have forgotten about, there are only 6 Emeralds on South Island, the seventh is on Westside Island. Thats all I could think of though as Sonic 1's plot is mostly simple.
You could take it as Eggman not knowing about a 7th Emerald
Sonic collects 6 emeralds, him startingnoff with one ends with 7 in the end, so that might already be explained. Though I wonder how sonic already got the emerald when the emeralds are from the floating island Knuckles is on.
Where in the video was it even said that there are seven? I watched it twice and couldn’t find anything

There is nothing about the number of emeralds in the video. In the description TheWax had a list of ways you could help, one of them being listing any plot details of Sonic 1 he might have forgotten about, this was the only one I could think of.

Just came back here to re-watch this.
I loved it before, and I love it even more now. If I'm imagining Jaleel White saying Sonic's dialogue and Mike Pollock voicing Robotnik's lines, I think it's a thorough sign that their personalities were nailed in this animation!
But you know what sealed the deal for me? When you gave the in-game props purposes in the story! The checkpoints being used by Sonic in mid-action; the goal signs used as signals for Robotnik; and the special stage rings being described as pocket dimensions to protect the Chaos Emeralds! Sonic's interaction with the special stage's environment sweetened the pot even more!
I'm in awe of the work that went into this and I cannot wait to see more!
This is one of the best Sonic animations on RUclips. The likelihood and likeness of Sonic and his personality was represented beautifully. And then the backstory parts that explain certain things in more detail are perfect, like the rabbit hole, which was genius! This animation is so good, it might as well be canon. (I know the game’s canon, I’m just saying some certain elements you added)
OMG, OMG, OMG! Keep up the good work dude! I wish I could give this video a thousand likes. It's absolutely perfect, amazing - in any way, shape or form! The coolness of this animation can't be EGGxaggerated!
This honestly has to be one of my favourite animations on this whole platform! It's just amazing! One suggestion I have would be for Sonic to vandalise the signpost by painting his face over Eggman's before jumping into the big ring to show his defiance towards Eggman and to stay in line with the original game. Other than that, I am really looking forward to the final version of this and the rest of the series! Great work man! 😊👍
Planning on having him do that in episode 2. Gonna try to throw a Jet Set Radio joke into it.

Some of these fake 3D effects are clever, actually. Some of which I have no idea how you managed to pull off... Sonic's animations are pretty fun, too! A real great job here!
Honestly, I really prefer when Sonic is this care-free and not always being a try-hard hipster like most modern Sonics.

As an animator and having a new animated series myself, I know how fun, yet exhausting and even a little frustrating it can be to do all this animation yourself and I know you've been doing it for years now, and it definitely shows each time you got a new video! Oh, plus freakin' time! Gotta have your day job and work on this when you DO have time, and we all know how tedious this can be while creating, so shout out to ya! I'd keep watch for this for sure!
That animation reminds me perfectly of the cool and edgy side of Sonic, the musics and animations are pretty good, i want it to be finished soon, this is the type of cartoon that SEGA has to do, or even a movie.

With how it started, I expected it to be more serious... But then came the squeaky chicken walk, and it was a laughfest from then on.

This animation is very good, perhaps one of the best, and I've seen A LOT of animations. I believe 4:46 just reeks of The Adventures of Sonic The Hedgehog, his personality matches and the badniks are like scratch and grounder, and the scene is funny. Hoping for more!
I love how so much of the stuff that wouldnt make sense from an animation standpoint was worked into another way, like the life monitor being a communication device and the signpost being an emerald marker

Dude, this is an amazing retelling! I really love how you made certain things like the Special Stage Rings make sense by giving explanations like the aforementioned rings being dimensions the Emeralds made to protect themselves, and having Sonic just spray-paint himself over Eggman's signposts. XD
Okay, wow, it is very good so far. The animation is very good for (I'm assuming) one person, I especially like the cut of Sonic dodging the Newtron at 8:22 . In general, it has a lot of flow and isn't floaty, which is good for what you're going for. But if I had to nitpick about something, I think that the font for the subtitles shouldn't be the Sonic logo font. Something about reading an actual sentence in stylized bolded all caps letters just rubs me the wrong way. Unless the subtitles are temporary because there aren't any voices yet, I'd recommend using a basic non bolded sans-serif font. But it wouldn't bother me if you didn't. Either way, keep up the good work and I can't wait to see this finished!

You have such a great talent man. I love every animation project you've done. The one thing I have to say though, as for the music choice, using tracks from Sonic CD is not too fitting, but that's my personal taste, I was close to tears when the Special Stage music started. Using different versions of the Green Hill Zone theme on the other hand is awesome and keeps the nostalgia up! Awesome work!

6:46 is most likely one of my favorite parts, it feels very AOSTH like,
the movements of Sonic are also all very smooth, and feel like you referenced parts of poses from classic sonic art for some of the frames, and the practical uses of the Monitors, tunnels, Signpost, big Ring & Animal Capsules were very smart
This is really good! I love how fans can make better animations and movies than any of those big corporations. That last good Sonic movie that isnt fan made like this will always be that old school one that came out in the early 90s I believe. But this is SICK! You got my sub 😁

Watching this animation has been really fun! I honestly love how much you've managed to give an explanation to like why the giant rings even exist, what those tubes in green hill zone are and why the goal posts are there with the villian's face on it. The simple art style looks nice and, although there are many things I disliked about the animation (some stuff looks a little stiff, animation and sound don't sync in one or two spots, etc.) watching the action scenes was very entertaining and helped make the idea of Sonic fighting off an army of robots much more believable than what jumping on them in the shape of a sphere could ever do. (I like to believe Sonic has a voice similar to the one he had in the OVA.) Anyways, I hope you have fun making more of this and thank you for reading if you have!

This looks good so far. I appreciate that elements of the game were incorporated into the story as well as the characterization of each of the badniks. It was fun to watch and I look forward to further progress.

This is absolutely incredible, I just love the animation, and the music and sound effects make it so pleasing, and appealing. I’m sure whenever you do get voice actors, it will fit very well, especially for the animated project. I also love all of the action scenes! Phenomenal job.👍👍👍

This one here really caught the original game, both the music, the theme, every element of the Green Hill zone - including the sline which was addressed as a rabbit hole.

In all seriousness, this project is awesome. Voice acting would help but there are some great scenes here.
I remember when i was a little kid i wrote this sonic movie script. At frist, sonic doesnt know how to use his speed powers but once he does theres a scene in my script from long ago where sonic goes to run from an ambush. But before he runs, he breaks the sound barrier.
Then just as the mobians are about to get attacked, sonic comes running back, Sonic CD style and saves them. I imagined the movie as being pure CGI

Hmm, honestly, I would have done the voice work first, gives you more room to animate everything while keeping the lines in mind. If you do it the other way around, that's how you can sometimes end up with lines that sound too fast if you don't rewrite any of the lines. But great work, regardless. 👍

I LOVED this effect! I love how the camera catches up to Sonic by gaining speed over time and then the Sonic CD style reveal of Sonic. It was awesome!
I think chaos control explains him getting out of special zones. Sonic wouldn't know about that yet though.

Going by this animation's explanation, the Special Stages were created by the emeralds as a defense against Eggman. Once Sonic grabs the emerald it's probably the emerald itself warping them free.

I love the bird's-eye view on Green Hill, I think it's a brilliant camera angle as it really captures just how beautiful Green Hill is. It looks sort of bland and uninteresting however, I think adding more things to it would make it more atmospheric and beautiful!
I think you should also add more smear frames as they help emphasize speed, I think this would work very well for Sonic. I also really love the action and dialogue, it really portrays Sonic very well.
Anyways, I think that's all I have to say, You're doing a great job with this so far and I think this'll turn out amazing! :-D

goddamn this is truly amazing, pace and narrative are great, as well as animation, i can't believe how ambitious this is yet how great it is turning out to be, keep up the amazing work, only gripe that i have is that in some scenes sonic talks, yet he doesn't have a mouth, but aside from that this is just awesome.

I loved the in world explanations for things like the sign posts etc, the only thing that doesn't fit is Sonic not knowing who Eggman is. Yes the whole manual thing, that Sonic and Eggman had met and had previous battles before Sonic 1 took place. But besides that personal irk it's an amazing piece of work, would love to see future Sonic media have more action running scenes like Sonic CD's opening and how well you executed it in this! Fantastic. Can't wait to see more! :)
