You are absolutely correct. I have adopted a system of clearing ALL my watched videos. Then choosing a random non political subject. What do their algorithms do ? Send me more boring divisive political videos. This, despite the fact that I pay for their 'Premium' service. I used to watch RUclips for an hour or so (when it was varied & interesting) in the evening and then read a book for an hour or so, before going to bed. Why have RUclips allowed it to deteriorate ? Do they not want to keep their customers ?

Sad that someone allegedly felt the need to destroy what was a fabulous piece of iconic flora, which gave great enjoyment, attachment to nature and peace to many people from all over the world. I sat at the foot of the tree many times, rested and enjoyed a sandwich, a cup of tea and a chat with passers by, before setting off again along Hadrians wall on a lovely walk in either direction. 😢

I can’t understand why anyone would want to cut down a tree that wasn’t doing any damage. There’s 2 neighbours on my estate who’ve cut down lovely trees to a stump when they could have just shortened the branches. What is wrong with people?
How close to their houses/foundations? Neighbours house/foundations/fences? Were they blocking light? Were they dropping sap on cars? Were they diseased? Were the roots damaging sewers? Pretty sure no one wakes up in the morning and thinks it a great idea to chop their own tree down, without good reason.
If the evidence is incontrovertable and they are as we suspect common or garden ne'er-do-wells then personally i would require the sentance to be at the severe end rather than a nursery school decision. Thanks for covering this in the way it should be.

Because prisons are overcrowded and Starmer has got to release two convicted criminals early so that these two idiots can be locked up for ten years. Be careful about assuming guilt at this phase. It is sub-judice at this stage, and if a judge felt that public comments could bias a jury, then it can cause a trial to be abandoned and those who publish such comments can be held to be in contempt of court. It is fair comment after a verdict, not before.

A very recent example of somebody who has been prosecuted for it in recent times is Tommy Robinson who has just been imprisoned for 18 months for the offence. Basically, in UK law, you are not meant to publish anything which might bias a jury trial. Appearing to assume guilt could be one. Cases have been abandoned because of this in the past. These days jurists are specifically told they must not look up anything to do with the case on the Internet precisely because of social media.

As baffling as you find it some people just love their actions to have a huge impact and even better if it’s a negative impact. This was not just a regional story it caused outrage and profound sadness globally and this pair of beauties were probably glued to their televisions, revelling in every second of it.

Why are they only facing ten years in prison for destroying a unique part of our national heritage. They are despicable.

Because prisons are overcrowded and Starmer has got to release two convicted criminals early so that these two idiots can be locked up for ten years. We need to bring back hard labour because locking people up so they can sit on their backsides whilst being fed and watered for ten years, is a waste of time.

We have a lovely painting of the tree and Sycamore Gap in our living room. So a constant reminder of this despicable act of vindictive vandalism. Hopefully justice will be fully served if found guilty but the tree as it stood will be forever lost.

Have they given a reason why they felt the need to destroy something so beautuful? It's such a pointless and bizarre act of vandalism. People never cease to amaze me with what makes them tick.
Be careful about assuming guilt at this phase. It is sub-judice at this stage, and if a judge felt that public comments could bias a jury, then it can cause a trial to be abandoned and those who publish such comments can be held to be in contempt of court.
It is fair comment after a verdict, not before.
@@TheEulerID It's, not a, question that effects subjudice rules. I'm not accusing anyone of anything, I'm just asking if they have given a reason. Obviously if they upheld their right to silence then the answer is, clearly no. Which is acceptable and within their rights.
I only ask because I did hear they'd talked about it so purely curiosity. I deliberately didn't assume guilt for that reason. Maybe I could've phrased it better rereading it.

Edited down a bit. Sub judice runs wider than just that though.
A very recent example of somebody who has been prosecuted for it in recent times is Tommy Robinson who has just been imprisoned for 18 months for the offence.
Basically, in UK law, you are not meant to publish anything which might bias a jury trial. Appearing to assume guilt could be one.
Cases have been abandoned because of this in the past. These days jurists are specifically told they must not look up anything to do with the case on the Internet precisely because of social media.

15 billion trees a year would say otherwise.
Couple of hundred quid for firewood and even then the value is in the processing and transport .

Glad I saw this, the media hasn’t reported anything I wasn’t even aware another person had been charged.
If these two did cut down the tree, I'd like to hear from the defence team as to why they want to get the two a not guilty verdict.
If either of them has admitted guilt privately to their lawyer, then the lawyer will have advised them to plead guilty. If the defendant goes against the advice and pleads not guilty, the lawyer may still represent the defendant's instructions to the court, if they can do so without misleading the court.
No doubt there’ll be an obligatory sob story….deprived childhood, somebody once looked at them ‘funny’, blah, blah.
