Wow… Pajama Sam. Quite possibly the first video game I ever played… and ironically being played by John and Elliot only. The first two people that got me into SGB ever since their Mario 1 LP. I’m… actually crying tears of nostalgia.
This was a genuine surprise... this really brings me back to my childhood. Pajama Sam was definitely my favorite of the Humongous Entertainment, but I did also play Putt Putt, Spy Fox, Freddie Fish and Backyard Baseball. Thank you two for this! If you guys play more, I would want to see Spy Fox or Pablo Sanchez, one of the Four Horsemen of the apocalypse, next.
One thing I love about this game is while it has a good horror aesthetic (at least for a kids game), it also as a very fantastical wondrous feel to it.
I saw and immediately clicked. THIS IS MY CHILDHOOD!! Pajama Sam, Spy Fox, Putt-Putt Travels Through Time…..I played them all on the original CD-ROMS which I still own.
UNDERRATED game. I played the holy hell out of these games as a kid. And still do occasionally. Also as a kid I had my mom play legit cheese and crackers with me. And it was the only time too lol
Christ, I feel old. My brother and I had our first proper computer in 1997, too. Games like this one, the JumpStart games, Mickey's Magic Artist, the Toy Story interactive CD's and so many edutainment games...*THESE* were our first CD Rom games back in the day. As a kid, we'd get all our CD Roms from Fry's Electronics along with so many Bailey City books (and the occasional preorder game like Majora's Mask). Funcoland would be where we got SNES games on the cheap that we missed the first go-around like Illusion of Gaia. I know it's basically GameStop now, but Funcoland somehow felt more wholesome. Maybe that's just the nostalgia talking...
I remembered a few kids in kindergarten/1st grade enjoyed playing these games. I didn't, because I was a big boy who played HARDCORE GAMES like Spogebob Employee of the Month, and Titanic Adventure out of Time. Years later, I found out Ron Gilbert and Dave Grossman created this and decided to give them a shot at the young age of... 25. That being said, as someone who didn't grow up on them, they are very well made adventure games for kids with charm and humor that actually got laughs out of me. I would definitely recommend this to a parent to give to their kids. Aged remarkably well.
Never in a million years did I ever think you guys would touch a Humungous Entertainment game, but I enjoyed it nonetheless. I absolutely loved HE as a kid. I never played Pajama Sam or Spy Fox though. I mainly stuck to Freddi Fish and their Blue’s Clues games, but I did play a little Putt-Putt as well. I would absolutely love it if you guys did more of these games!
I appreciate y'all uploading this game. I cannot do scary/jumpscare-y games, so I haven't been able to participate in y'all's Halloweenfest this year yet, but now I can with this! 💙
I played the shit out of Putt-Putt and Freddi Fish, but Pajama Sam and Spy Fox were blind spots for me. As an adult I've gained a huge appreciation for all the effort they have put into them. Very happy they're still readily available for kids today.
Cant say I was expecting this, but its cool to see! Honestly it would be awesome to see more games that match the Halloween Aesthetic. Like Costume Quest
I'm one of those few 90s kids who didn't get to grow up with any Humongous Entertainment games to play on my own personal computer, but I did own some Disney Interactive games, Magic School Bus games, 3D Movie Maker, and LEGO Island, among other kids software titles of the time. It's good to know that the Humongous Entertainment games have had enough of an impressionable legacy to them to still be getting re-released and ported even to this day, and I did purchase the first two Pajama Sam games and Spy Fox to try out on Nintendo Switch now.
My favorite path is the one involving the pencil where the flashlight is found on a hidden section of the mine tracks. It was definetly one of the more complicated puzzles (or as complicated as a humongus game could be)
In regards to mentioning the other Humgonus entertainment games, I know that the Spy Fox and Putt putt games are also on Steam. This was a surprise to see being played on the channel. I wonder if SGB would be open to giving some of the other games a try. Something short and sweet
@@newguy371 The One-Stop Fun Shops? Unfortunately, their main selling point requires Printer support that retro game emulator ScummVM doesn’t have. The publishers have full legal clearance to re-release those games, but why would they want to?
This one is a little after my time. Putt-Putt joins the parade, Freddi Fish and the case of the missing kelp seeds, and Putt-Putt and Fatty Bear's activity pack were the ones I played. I remember playing Putt-Putt goes to the Moon on a friend's computer, and wanting to find a copy of Fatty Bear's birthday surprise, but settling for the demo. Freddi Fish has a sweet soundtrack, no joke. Humongous Entertainment ftw.
Yes, you guys should absolutely do LPs on the other Humongous Entertainment games. I would especially love to hear your thoughts on Putt-Putt and Freddi Fish.
This was a blast from the past. I played this game back when I was a kid. Never beat it, wasn't much for puzzles. Still, it brought back a few glimmers of memories from the past, so thanks for that, Johnny & Elliot.
The only games like this I can remember playing were a Fisher-Price game called Castle, from 1995, as well as Huggly's Sleepover. Classic games made before I was even born.
David Scully (Darkness & Carrot) is Dimitri (Sly Cooper), Sgt. Johnson & the Elites (Halo), Leon & Panther (Star Fox Assault). Jeff Steitzer (King & the Toaster) is the Halo multiplayer announcer. & finally, the music of the game was composed by Jeremy Soule (of Elder Scrolls fame).
I had the entire Freddy Fish collection, spin offs and all, as well as the first Pajama Sam, which would always crash right before I entered Darkness’ room
Pajama Sam is a quadrilogy IIRC, "Life is Rough when you lose your stuff" is the one of the titles PC gaming also is a lot of DOS classics and such, 90s computer gaming what a different time.
This, the second game, Sock Works, Putt-Putt Saves the Zoo, and the Blue's Clues birthday game were pretty much the only full games I had in my Humongous Entertainment collection as a kid, but I did also play the numerous demos each game came with. I also had quite a few JumpStart games, which I don't hear many folks bring up whenever they talk about edutainment games they grew up with. Because you guys haven't done very many edutainment game playthroughs on this channel, I'd love to see more of them in the future. Also, there is actually a fourth numbered Pajama Sam game called "Life is Rough when you Lose your Stuff". Just thought I'd throw that out there.
Would I want to see you guys play more Humongous Entertainment games? UH, YES!! These games were a lot of people's childhood, and a lot of the humor in the games were amazing. Plus, the banter you two had in this game was great to listen to.
I never played games like these when I was a kid and I'm 33. But I did have a game that was kinda similar called Zoombinis, it was a series of puzzle games where you had to lead a bunch of blue ball like critters through puzzles to get them to a new home, it was long but really fun and really made you think a lot.
Man, I loved Humungous Entertainment growing up with my younger brother. I've played through the Pajama Sam trilogy (especially Pajama Sam 2) a lot. I also played plenty of Putt-Putt, Freddi Fish, and Spy Fox back then. Didn't really play any of the Backyard Sports games. Thanks for this blast from the past.
I never played a full Humongous Entertainment game, but I did have a demo pack of a few of them. My childhood was predominantly Reader Rabbit and Jumpstart. I distinctly remember JS 3rd grade being a huge game for an Edutainment title, it was like a 12 hour game.
Great Lp and I'm little surprised Johnny didn't make "i am the cheese" from Rocko's Modern Life reference. Also one game I played from humongous was *web search the correct name* Putt-Putt Goes to the Moon. Though I couldn't beat it as a kid.

Man, I unabashedly love this game so much. The presentation is so charming, and Humongous Entertainment have such a good sense of humor. This first Pajama Sam is easily my favorite entry in their catalog, though I’ve played all four(I don’t think the 4th was ever rereleased), though I’ve only ever dabbled in the rest of their library via demos included on my old PJ Sam roms. Having said that, this revisit was a perfect blend of cozy and fun, so I can’t say I’d be opposed to seeing more of its like. And because I don’t often get a chance to do so, I’m a share some PJS1 trivia with ya. - The three maguffins(mask, flashlight, signature all metal Pajama Man lunchbox) can each appear in one of two locations. All of the alt routes were mentioned in the video, but in the interest of housekeeping; the mask will either be serving as the carrots disguise or pinned underneath the couch in the room with the dancing furniture, which requires invisibility to grab while the room’s still hopping. The flashlight will either be in the knob-less water shed, or passed a caved in section of the mine that doesn’t even appear if the flashlight isn’t present. This route in particular has the most exclusive NPCs, as Sam needs the help of a construction pencil who spawns in the park, and a grandfather clock who resides in the hall just before the library. Lastly, the lunchbox arguably possess the smallest deviation, either appearing at the bottom if the underground river, or by the bitching well in the clearing beyond the vegetable patch which will be blocked by thorns if the box spawns there. - The game can mix and match these routes within 8 possible combinations. Interestingly, I THINK the combination played through here is considered the “default”. I can’t claim it for a fact, but I distinctly remember this being the permutation the game took when I first ever played it, and it almost always seems to be the route I see online as well. As this is arguably the simplest of the possible permutations, it wouldn’t surprise me if the game was flagged to select this route upon first ever boot up. Again though, this is entirely speculative. - Most notable NPCs in the game have dialogue designed to nudge you towards an objective, particularly if they pose as an obstacle in some way. But as the game doesn’t usually lock actions behind conversations, numerous NPCs have dynamic dialogue that reflects how much Sam has spoken to them before doing something. Otto is the easiest example of this, as Sam can prove that wood floats in water before ever learning of the boat’s hydrophobia. The ending functions similarly, as Sam will only say that he knows how to play Cheese & Crackers if you took the time to play a round earlier with the toaster, which is entirely optional. - The candles just beyond the bookshelf door are basically a demo for the dynamic dialogue system. Each one has its own disposition: happy, neutral, and squidward. Clicking on one will cause it to strike up a conversation, but as each click only nets you one sentence, how the conversation unfolds is dependent on which of the candles you prompt to continue it. There’s a surprising amount of variance for such a remote Easter egg. - If you take the construction pencil to the library, you’ll find a blank book that only spawns when this route is active. Click the book with the pencil, and Sam will write his own poem. - Last but certainly not least, after collecting our carrot friend, you can actually take him back down the racist tree path(sans ingenious disguise), and formally introduce him to his neighbors. This insanely remote interaction is pure gold, so much so that I’d rather not spoil it here.
I played Freddi Fish a TON when I was growing up. Games 3 and 4 were the ones I remembered really well. I'd love to see you play Pajama Sam 2 or Spy Fox for the channel, though! Also, Backyard Sports.
Aw yeah, Humongous Entertainment games were the shit, good times playing these in the late 90s early 2000s. I had the three Pajama Sam games and the three Spy Fox games, a couple Backyard games, a couple Putt Putt games and one Freddi Fish game as well as the Junior Field Trip games. Don't play them today given how short and easy they are but they are great nostalgia trips.
Fun fact when it comes to the Humongous Entertainment games, mainly Spy Fox, Pajama Sam, Freddie Fish, and Putt-Putt, the games' somewhat randomize whenever you play the games over again. The plot stays the same but plot-related activities can somewhat randomize whenever you play the game again.
I got a lot of Humongous Entertainment games library through humble bundle a while ago and I've only checked Putt Putt goes to the parade and it works on my windows 10 PC. So if I can get them to work I expect the remaining Pajama Sam games, Spy Fox, Freddie Fish, Putt Putt, & Backyard Baseball games at some point on this channel. You've opened the gates already so there's no point in not going all the way.
0:41 Johnny: “I’m just here for the likely minute one reactions when they see this thumbnail in their feed and they’re like what?” The viewer: Honey, GET IN HERE. They’re playing Pajama Sam!
Growing up I had one of the guppy games, couldn't remember which one and 3 putt putt games. I think they were putt goes to the parade, putt putt to the moon(played this a lot), and one other putt putt game.
I love the HE games growing up and Sam and Spy Fox were my jam series back in the day. I didn't grew up with consoles, so I had these games, the Jumpstart and Reader Rabbit series growing up, so I would love to see you guys tackle the other HE games at some point, like Spy Fox, with Dry Cereal and Ozone being my fav games from the series.
I never played Pajama Sam but I did sure played a lot of Putt Putt and I played one Freddi Fish so yeah Humongous Etertainment was part of my childhood. That and Reader Rabbit but that's a different studio who made it. But overall I'm glad to see this in action for the first time and it looked like a game I would love as a kid.
The aftermath, to put it as lightly as possible here, of Humongous Entertainment is that they died a slow painful death: and now only exist as a brand name from Tommo Inc.
Ah, Humongous Entertainment. The king of kid’s’ adventure games throughout the 90’s. I was mainly a Putt-Putt kid myself.
I didn’t even know this was a 90’s game. These games made it all the way to the 2000’s, into my childhood where I grew up remembering this game.
Spyfox for me, epic.
It was Freddie Fish for me
Putt-Putt was our shiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiit~!!!!
My brain fried itself a bit and misread that as "I was a Putt-Putt main myself" like there was a Humongous Entertainment smash bros game out there
Now we must have the Somecallmejohnny vs Pajama Sam series

This is true horror classic game right up there with Silent Hill and Resident Evil
Man these games are getting scarier the closer we get to Halloween
Growing up I had one of the guppy games, couldn't remember which one and 3 putt putt games. I think they were putt goes to the parade, putt putt to the moon(played this a lot), and one other putt putt game.
I still haven't forgotten about ai Sam R.I.P
absolutely would love more of these
I never played Put Put or Pajama Sam but Freddy Fish 2 was my childhood jam.
I still crave trying to find a copy to replay it once again.
THEY'RE ON STEAM?!?
I love the HE games growing up and Sam and Spy Fox were my jam series back in the day. I didn't grew up with consoles, so I had these games, the Jumpstart and Reader Rabbit series growing up, so I would love to see you guys tackle the other HE games at some point, like Spy Fox, with Dry Cereal and Ozone being my fav games from the series.
Okay, if Pajama Sam is on the menu, then we can also get a Plants vs Zombies survival run, right?
I'd be fine with them playing PvZ. That game indirectly started my wanting to become a RUclips myself.
Two words, Otto.
"Citation Needed."
This was my childhood man great to see you guys play this
This game with the John/Elliot Duo reminds me a lot of the Rugrats LP they did years ago, which was also a fun time.
I love the dark humor and child entertainment or edutainment game combo
We used to have a plug and play for backyard baseball and soccer and I had fun with it
That was nostalgic! You guys should definitely play Pajama Sam 2 and 3 at some point, as well as other games like Freddi Fish and Spy Fox.
Pajama sam 3 was my childhood, back on the Ps1. Would love to see you play it😆
honestly, the one i remembered the most was the second game. that was just fun

These guys' faced remind me of the Hardly Boys from South Park, idk why
My only experience with Humongous games is the a few of them were on some mini game collection cds that came with kelloggs cereal.
Only 2 humongous entertainment games I've played were this, and a blue clues birthday game they made
i wonder if those talking trees were references to evil dead...
Im old
I remember as a kid playing this game and i knew it inside and out
I never played Pajama Sam but I did sure played a lot of Putt Putt and I played one Freddi Fish so yeah Humongous Etertainment was part of my childhood.
I had the first two freddi fish games. Gotta help grandma :)
I’ve never heard of this series but I really love the animation
