@California Through My Lens ... this is one of your absolutely best, informative and unique videos! Great job! I’ve only seen one of these four ... and I have lived here for over 40 years!
The diversity and beauty of California's natural world is truly incredible. Thanks so much for capturing some of them and thanks equally for all your travels which are most appreciated during these difficult times.
Yes. I agree. Those are amazing natural wonders to see. The frazil ice in Yosemite is to me an amazing thing to see. The monarch refuge when there are a million monarchs clustering on trees and flooring everywhere in places like Pismo/ Grover beach is magical and usually at their peak around thanksgiving every year. Also watching the birth of hundreds of elephant seals at our piedras Blancas beach in San Simeon is incredible. Usually only once a year in late December, early January. Not something the camera might find beautiful but it’s stunning to see with your own eyes. Very moving
I would love to see the frazil ice in Yosemite one of these days and I actually wanted to include the butterflies but I didn't have any footage haha. Thanks for all the great suggestions!
I got to see the frazil ice once. It was amazing. The butterfly population this year was sorely small. Hopefully there will be more next year. The docents said it was alarmingly small this year. Maybe they knew something we didn’t. Lol
Quite the well compiled list of transient wonders that depend on many conditions to fall in place! 1. Fire Fall in Yosemite (Feb) 2. Super Bloom (spring eg. Antelope Valley/Carizzo Plain) 3. Red Tide (early spring/late summer) 4. Desert Snow (ex. Joshua Tree NP) Thanks for the vid! Another addition to consider: Migrating gray or humpback whales off the coast - seasons vary depending on whale species.
Keep the great work up. It’s such a blessing to have your content right now. My family been quarantining and it feels like forever since we’ve been out.
What a great video. My wife and I were in Joshua Tree and it started raining pretty hard. "Roll up the windows!! Stay dry!!" A few minutes later, I'm like "Wait..what? It's WARM out." I pulled over, we got out of the car, got wet and enjoyed the rain!
HI Josh, I've lived in California my entire life and have not personally experienced any of these wonders. You are very fortunate. Thank you for sharing them with us! ~Lucy
Nice! We live on a boat, so red tide can be super fun! We get in our dinghy at night and our prop wash is neon blue. I would love to see Joshua Tree in the snow.
U can see that snow fire thing while driving a semi truck. There are marker lights in trailers. One time I was driving on BC mountain road with lots of snow. The snow comes out flying from the side of axle but it looks like fire because of backlight projection of marker light. Lol I pulled over multiple time to make sure my brake isn't dragging thus causing fire. It's looks like a flame!!!!!!
So lucky we live here! I’m up north in Mendocino county so I’ve not seen any of these yet but the wildflowers along the hills of the Mendo coast are gorgeous right now ☀️
The Yosemite firefall is in my bucket list, I hope one day I get to see it. I went to check out the super bloom of 2019 after I watched your video; and that was one of the most beautiful things I’ve seen in my life! And the red tide was an amazing event to witness, although the stench afterwards from the decomposing algae was not very pleasant lol; but still it was beautiful to see those waves at night. Great video, of course! Hope you guys are staying safe.
I am glad you got to see the super bloom, it was so impressive! I didn't get to smell it but I am imagine you are right haha. Hope you are staying safe as well!
Awesome video! I was lucky enough to see the bioluminescent waves this year! Hopefully I can knock the other three off the list some day! Quick question, may I ask where that waterfall at 0:15 is located? It looks incredible!
good list. i have been in California about 15 years. i would have come up with the same list. one thing to add are the incredibly sunsets around La Jolla. but good job overall!!
These are all amazing! Thanks for sharing these. If you get a chance, visit Death Valley National Park in snow as well. It happens rarely, but we got a chance to do that during Thanksgiving 2019. Watching Ubehebe crater in the snow was a fantastic experience.
The first time I heard of the amazing poppy blooms in antelope valley was last year when Lana Del Rey posted a few photos. I know the desert southwest has amazing flowers in the rare years of enough rainfall.
I thought the "moonbow" that only occurs at 2 locations in the entire world; 1 of which is at Lower Yosemite Falls during the full moon + cloudless night sky - thought it made this list for sure!
Yosemite Firefall - If you try to go, do your research on latest rules. I've been fortunate enough to see it about 4 times in the past 10 years and it's getting so popular/crowded that the park has started implementing different rules and changes every year or so to handle the increasing traffic. In the Point Lobos area/Tomales Bay, at certain times of the year you can do bioluminescent kayaking at night. Not as bright as the surfing shots, but it's still cool to see the glow react to the kayaks and paddles.
I was out in yucca valley prospecting (looking for gold) rattle snake canyon I have never seen so many joshua trees like a forest serious high 70's nice breeze playing in the dirt
seen 2/4 on this list: the red tide and the superbloom. both were experiences i will never forget and i went to see multiple times while it was happening. still need to see the yosemite falls “lavafall” and the joshua tree snow. :O
I was hoping to see Table Mountain outside Oroville California. When California has a good rain year it is so beautiful. But we know how many "good" years we have, not likely.
My parents loved the phoney Firefall with all it's hokey Hollywood music. I always hated it as a kid. It was so phony. Then they's drive cars all over the meadow and put out the garbage for the bears to scavenge. Awful and freaky. So glad that they don't do that any more. The meadows are gorgeous now and it has taken decades to train the bears to eat their natural diet. They are still working with the folks to put their food in the secure bear boxes they provide.
California Through My Lens Yes! The tule elk, the California quail (our state bird), the desert tortoise (our state reptile), the Mojave rattlesnake . . .
I have a small bag of Poppy seeds,I've been lucky to grown some successfully, but their not easy to grow, they are extremely sensitive 🌴😖 trial and error
I've never heard it called "the red tide." I've always heard it just referred to as luminous plankton. I got to experience seeing this when I was younger in Monterey.
I was born and raised in CA and I've always heard it called the "Red Tide." As a kid in the 60s I remembering the radio announcing the red tide and saying where it was thickest (best wave viewing) We'd all squeeze in the car and go look at the glowing waves. Used to also announce when the grunion were running. Once again we'd all squeeze in the car and head to the beach. Best part of those nighttime beach trips was I was the littlest and got to stay up past my bedtime.
Last year’s poppy bloom was legendary!! Literally the best we’ve seen in 7 years, great to see it make the list!🌼
I agree, it was mind blowing how many orange flowers there were on the mountains!

A girl from Cali told me that no one called it Cali there...

You are an awesome narrator .....thank you for sharing all of your videos and pictures.
Awesome and you are the most luckiest person to c that kind of natural beauty & Capture for us..
Good list. I’m a California native and have only experienced the wildflower blooms. That red tide is amazing. Lisa
Thank you! At least you got to see the wildflowers, they are pretty impressive
ml2mercer2011 Tell that to a Floridian and you’d get a much different reaction
I love living in Cali it has so much to offer.❤

Thanks for the comment, what is the "The List?" I will have to check it out!
California Through My Lens it’s a show on ABC (KGTV) and they were talking about hikes. They showed your potato chip rock hike.

I witnessed bioluminescent waves , snow on Joshua trees and super poppy bloom and. Amazing !!

I really want to move to CA one day. So much to see and explore.
Last year even the Mojave desert had snow, it was super cool!
Oh wow, that would be pretty cool to see on the dunes!
I just found your channel last night, and I love it! Great job!!
HI Josh, I've lived in California my entire life and have not personally experienced any of these wonders. You are very fortunate. Thank you for sharing them with us! ~Lucy

I experienced the red tie this year. Truly amazinf.
So glad you got to see it!
Thank's for this wonderful videos. God bless you 🤝
Epic! I've seen the Joshua Tree snow and the red tide, and some blooms that were super. Firefall someday!

The Lupine bloom in the Valley of the Moon.
Will have to check that out!
Oh I bet that smells amazing
You Very blessed to see it all.
California is a pretty incredible place!
Great video! 👍🏼
Glad you enjoyed it!
Been to all of these places, but only seen 2/4 of these (superbloom and bioluminescence). Lived in SD most of my life and absolutely love this state!
So awesome! The firefall is a hard one to see for sure. I tried a few years in a row before I finally got to see it.

We have these orange flowers in our garden :)
I was out in yucca valley prospecting (looking for gold) rattle snake canyon I have never seen so many joshua trees like a forest serious high 70's nice breeze playing in the dirt
Sounds awesome, there are a ton of Joshua Trees in Mojave National Preserve as well.
seen 2/4 on this list: the red tide and the superbloom. both were experiences i will never forget and i went to see multiple times while it was happening. still need to see the yosemite falls “lavafall” and the joshua tree snow. :O
So awesome! I agree that those two experiences are amazing. I would go back to either in a heartbeat if they happen again!
Lit video fam 🔥

I'm so ready to goooo
Come on over when all this virus craziness is over. You won’t be disappointed! I moved here four years ago and I’m still exploring.
Thanks 😊 🙏 a lot
Most welcome 😊
Nice!!!!!
Have you filmed the rocks moving at the Racetrack in Death Valley?
I saw the firefall in Yosemite last February
I was hoping to see Table Mountain outside Oroville California.
When California has a good rain year it is so beautiful.
But we know how many "good" years we have, not likely.
That was awesome
Thanks for watching and for the comment!
I'm 24, I study in Cali now for 3 years! I really wish if I could spend the rest of my life in here. 💔 Cali is full of life! 🌴🏄♂️🏖🏍🏔🏜
Except for the majority of morons that live here. They have ruined this state.
Last time I seen the man made firefall in Yosemite was back in 1965 !! They stopped that in 1968 !
So awesome! I bet it was pretty crazy
I grew up watching that firefall on our annual vacations in the 50s and 60s. It will always be the “real” firefall to me.
My parents loved the phoney Firefall with all it's hokey Hollywood music. I always hated it as a kid. It was so phony. Thank's God for living in this beautiful California 🙏🏻😃
California is a beautiful place. Too bad the people ruin it.
Agree and I live in California for 41 years. The people and the moronic Governor.

Thanks for the comment and for coming back to watch my videos!
Need to visit Joshua tree national park when it's snowing
Although they’re not visually spectacular, the pupfish in Death Valley are pretty darn rare!
That is a good one. It would be fun to do a video like this just on wildlife
California Through My Lens Yes! The tule elk, the California quail (our state bird), the desert tortoise (our state reptile), the Mojave rattlesnake . . .
What are some good places to visit for a quick 3 day trip with a dog?
Which country is this in?
This is the USA, California
I have never seen blue waves 🌊 at the beach 🏖 at night before I probably be taking a hole 🕳 lot pictures while looking at them for hours.
I have a small bag of Poppy seeds,I've been lucky to grown some successfully, but their not easy to grow, they are extremely sensitive 🌴😖 trial and error
U should add one. Potato Chip Rock. If you haven’t. Trust me. 😉
I've never heard it called "the red tide." I've always heard it just referred to as luminous plankton. I got to experience seeing this when I was younger in Monterey.
That is awesome, I am glad you got to see it! I am sure there are a few names for it

Even with our shitty politics and high prices Cali still reigns supreme. We have some of the best foods in the country
@J S yes , I’ve skied and went to the beach same day caught the sunset. While sipping on some great wine and Cali greenery 🤤 .

Is the algae harmful to humans?
👍🏼
Adorable and so fucking amazing! I bet there's hardly any place on Earth with such a great variety of landscapes and climate zones.
I agree, California is pretty special!
Dude I’ve lived in the California desert since I was born. It happens at least 2-3 times a year that we get snow. It happens a lot
