- #Kylie_Pentelow interviews #John_Nettles (born October 11, 1943 in St. Austell), a British actor and writer. He is best known as detective in the crime drama television series Bergerac (as Jim Bergerac 1981-1991) and Midsomer Murders (as Chief Inspector #Tom_Barnaby 1997-2011).
"Bergerac", set in the island of Jersey, ran from 1981 to Christmas 1991. It stars John Nettles as #Jim_Bergerac, who was initially a detective sergeant in "The Foreigners' Office", a fictional department within the Jersey Police, but later becomes a private investigator. The long-running television series "Midsomer Murders", a British television detective drama that has aired on ITV since 1997, is based on Caroline Graham's Chief Inspector Barnaby book series. The series has been marketed worldwide in numerous countries.

He was the best Barnaby. The other Barnaby is doing well to and I am enjoying the show with him but John Nettles was the best Barnaby.
He certainly was. His character came from the books.
His voice ... ‘mellifluous’ ... ‘melodious’ ... to quote Stephen Fry. John Nettles could read the telephone directory to me from A to Z, and I’d still be smiling contentedly at the end. His voice is so full of warmth and is so satisfying.

I am the same here in NZ and I still watch Midsomers very regular, they are on youtube, but I have to use a VPN so they will work, I use Mexico and they all work great.
Joyce Barnaby (the character) was involved with saving Donkeys, in one of the episodes. Watch Misdomer Murders religiously, a fan in Oklahoma.

Still gorgeous...had a crush on him for years. That voice, those eyes, that smile. I've seen every episode, many times over and will continue to do so for years to come. Fortunately reruns are shown every week in Australia.

He came across as a kind man in 'Midsomer Murders' but I didn't know if that was part of the character. It's so rewarding to discover that John Nettles truly is a kind man and not only to people but to animals. It's wonderful his wife got him hooked on donkeys and horses and obvious he has much affection for Hector. What a great follow up and interview. Thank you!!

He is the quintessential English gentleman, I've been a huge fan of Midsomer since it started and still watch the DVDs every week (and reading the books) What a delight he is.
I sooooo miss him. Midsomer Murders now is full of aliens from every country and the substitute is not interesting. A horrible shame.

I've always loved Midsomer Murders and especially John Nettles as Barnaby and it's lovely to see that is such a fine man in his personal life as well. I love animals and I appreciate a man who does as well. Just the short and quick story he told about the clay; just makes me want to pull up a chair and listen to him talk. His voice, both in tone (and of course the accent) is lovely with a bit of softness.
The murder mystery drama series that turned me into a die-hard crime/murder mystery drama series eat, sleep and breathe fan. Unquestionably, my all time most favourite and bestest murder mystery British TV drama series. 👍👏👏♥️💋💋😁😁😁
What a lovely, happy, and healthy man! his sincerity and kindness show simply and beautifully… it also shows how one be a top actor, enjoy stardom, and yet stay so sincere and so grounded in the little things that make life worth living… there’s something so graceful and honest about John in the way he has moved on after retiring from acting… best wishes for a very fulfilling life ahead…

Devon was where the writer Silvia Plath lived with her poet laureate husband. It was a tragedy that she took her own life. Even though I have never been to England I would love to travel there one day.
The late actor Jeremy Brett grew up in the countryside. He also had a donkey which he loved so much.

As an American who came to Midsomer Murders very late in the game I binge-watch this show over and over again. I watch nearly every day, so I spend a lot of time with Tom Barnaby and his family. I also really like John Barnaby and his family, but I'm always glad to return to the original Chief Inspector Barnaby. Lovely to see him happy in his retirement.

I totally agree. I’ve rewatched the seasons he was in four times! Never get tired of them. The other seasons I’ve only watched once and have no desire to see again. He was the Show!

What a wonderful treat to run across this video tonight! So happy to see and hear Mr. Nettles so happy and well. I miss him and his fellow actors on Midsomer Murders so very much. I listen to reruns somedays, while quilting, almost feels like I'm listening to friends. Being a Yankee, his is the first British TV series I watched and of course, have been hooked since. Thank you sir for many hours of enjoyment.

Love John so much on Midsomer Murders. My husband and I waited for the weekly showing would stop everything and enjoy it. Nice to know John is enjoying retirement. My husband and I retired several years ago and in July had 50th anniversary. Life is grand. Would be just a smidge better if my two favorite actors were back on Midsomer.

I’m currently watching all of the episodes of Midsomer Murders again. I love British murder mysteries and comedies. I love John Nettles. Such a lovely man.

I love looking at the variety of houses! From great manors to council houses. And everyone having to duck the low doorways, and the ceilings you don't have to have a ladder to paint!
