What is the name of the blade/attachment that is attached to the oscillating tool?
They're just called oscillating multi tool blades. Not sure brand but I know Milwaukee and Diablo makes good ones

My door jams are a 1x12” against a block wall on both sides.. was thinking I’d cut through the 1x12 for the under cut, but when you chipped out a 1/4” piece.. the light went on and I realized, I don’t need to cut through. Just enough to slip the flooring under. Thank you for the to the point video!

Finally I see a use for that oscillating multi tool. I know it is a very popular and useful tool but since I never work with wood or metal I have never seen it used. Why did you choose to lay a new floor instead of refinishing the old one? Great video Jony. Keep them coming.
Thanks Larry. Yeah you don't use multi tools too often, but for the times you need it, there's really no other tool. I wanted to keep floor color light and the old harwood had some stains so I would have had to stain it darker. And also it needed some patchwork done in a couple places. And lastly the cold air comes right up from under the floor in that room so I figured the floating floor would warm up the room some, and it did 👍🏻

@@JonnyDIY Why didn't you rip up the old wood? And why didn't you put any underlayment underneath?
@@zZrEtRiBuTiOnZz no need to rip up old flooring, it actually raised that flooring to match surrounding flooring levels. And I used a laminate that had underlayment attached already to the backside of each plank 👍🏻 I like to use that if I can, usually comes on higher quality laminates

@@bricksailor1695 yes but you'll need metal cutting blades for tool or could use angle grinder
My door jambs seem to be almost entirely shims at the bottom.
Hmm must've had to use a lot with uneven floors or bringing it up higher
I hired someone to install my flooring. He said he did a lot of these floors. Apparently he did not because he didn’t cut around door jams and left gaps almost an inch in some places. It looks horrible and I’m sick to my stomach about it. Can anything be done when the floor is already installed?
Sorry to hear. Yes you can recut jambs like I did and patch in or feather in longer pieces around them. If cant do them all I'd at least focus on worst spots. Hopefully you have extra flooring 👍

One question- with the OT, you're cutting straight in. Great. HOW did it just pop out without cutting the back and of it? It's still wood that is connected in the back. The bottom's free. The top is free. But it's still connected to the jamb in the back. ?
Door casing/trim is actually just wood nailed into 2x4 stud framing. So I just cut through til I got to the stud, then I could just pry it out 👍🏻

No underlayment for laminate ??
Yes make sure you account for that as well and put a scrap under your guide too. The laminate I installed had it built in and attached to the underside 👍
What do you do if the flooring is already down? How would you fix the gaps that are already there...
If floors down and gaps there already only thing really to do is either get some color matching caulk, install trim to cover gaps, or take up some flooring and feather it in under casings
@@JonnyDIY Could you explain a little more how to feather in under the casings... Or even another video would be nice about that
@JonnyDIY also, what about metal door trim? You'd have to "feather" that too, right?
@@ShadowofTheAlmighty for feathering you need to take up baseboards and cut the casing and pull up some boards and either cut or reorganize so you can put some decent size pieces under casings. You could also recut boards to go around casings, but cut them to match with tight fitments
If u got alot of jambs...your arms will be tired...jamb saw alright...jamb/undercut tool BEST!!!

You could use a small chisel if you have one as well, once its cut you're just chipping out 👍
You presentation is good but the camera work sycks. Lots of the time your work is not lit well and in shadow from the light source. Plus it could be shot CLOSER rather than a couple feet away. Better lighting and closer video would make your presentation so much better.

Thanks for video. You can get a door jamb saw that is offset from the blade which makes it easier when you’re close to the floor.

Nice. I believe I'd be stripping the paint off that jamb trim before I put new floor under it, but you did a clean job.

What happens if you decide to use the old hardwood floor again with the door jambs? How do you replace the part you cut off?
Would need to find some trim that could match or closely match and fill in the small piece missing. Just glue it in. Either that or just replace the trim, the 1st option would be easier/more cost effective

How deep can you cut before you hit a stud?
Just cut slowly through the trim/casing. Should only be 1-2 inches

Why did I not think of balancing the cut with a wood plank.
I do the same thing all the time. The next day Ill go, boy I coulda done that and it would have been a whole lot easier 😂👍🏻

Hmm metal framed casing. I havent dealt with that. May just need to cut flooring to fit around as it may weaken structure I'm thinking
