Just bought e46 with the smg my first smg and not realy sure how it should be shifting and how fast but seams a bit slow and it almost feels like if you press the clutch in a manual gearbox in automatic mode but in manual mode it seams to shift pretty quick any ideas

Mines, been having delayed shift, my only question, was his grinding during hard shifts?

My daughter just bought a 2004 330i, 130K miles, single owner, with the SMG (I didn't do any research on the workings of the SMG in advance but it was a good deal) & I believe it has the same slow shifts you speak of in this video. I tried shifting in drive standard & sport as well as manumatic standard & sport but the same lag exists. Did replacing the springs fix the problem? Were there additional problems after the spring replacements, other than readapting the gear selector with the scan tool? Any ballpark pricing for just replacing the springs & components only from a shop like yours (time associated)? Thanks in advance for your help.

Under hard acceleration my M3 SMG won't shift into the next gear, and the motor kills the power until I let off the gas. I'm thinking my springs are broken...

great video, i tried to replace mine. Gearbox lowered, car on stands. It's damn near impossible to get that blind plug out. after 2 days of prying at that thing i dont think i moved it at all, could only get a small stubby screw driver up in there. Any tips? I ended up giving up because i'm not all that sure it's the cause of my issue.

I use a 2 foot pry bar to remove it. If you don't have that kind of leverage then it might be impossible to do the way you currently are trying. Hope that helps

    Transmission fluid interval?

BMW does not have an Interval but we always recommend them with repairs

ZF the main manufacturer of there transmission does recommend servicing there automatics at 60k per their engineer. I didn't get a chance to ask him about the manual gearboxes though. Either way it's better to do it versus not. I'll have to check whether the new F body cars with autos have a spec now. For sure any of the DCT cars need regular service.
