    What do you all think of the Q3 bonus categories? Are you as excited as I am about the Freedom card's Amazon.com bonus? 🤓

    You’re one of my favorite CC RUclipsrs to watch. Not only you make very helpful videos, but you were so nice when we had a FaceTime call a few months ago for a CC consultation, and on a Instagram DM. The first time I used a RUclipsrs affiliate link for a CC application was after that consultation. I hope everything is going well and you and you’re wife are staying safe at these crazy times!

    Good video! I think the 5% categories on Discover and Freedom are great because I have to buy stuff for my new place.

    Hi, thanks for this video-very informative. However, I have a question, I have been applying for multiple cards lately, I have noticed that the banks seem to rotate their pulls with all three bureaus. My last few pulls all hit my Experian report and nothing on the other two. So, can you tell me what are the normal rotations for the big banks, or how can I tell which bureau a bank is pulling from at that moment?

      Thanks! It's hard question to answer, especially since it does seem to be inconsistent. While certain issuers will tend to use one or two of the major credit bureaus, it can also depend on whether you are already a customer with them or even your overall credit history and score. In the past, it seemed like the issuers followed this pattern:
      Amex --> Experian
      Chase --> Experian
      Citi --> Equifax & Experian
      But again, it's not a guarantee that they won't pull additional reports if they want to be more comprehensive. And given the current climate, it seems like the issuers are being a bit more picky on who and how much credit they are offering. 😬

    FYI Amazon Pay and international Amazon sites don’t count for the 5% for the Freedom.

      Interesting. I'm still going to test it out. Amazon Pay worked on my Citi Dividend card this quarter, so I'm curious whether Chase will filter it out.

      Trip Astute Let me know if it works, it’s listed under the exclusions on the Ultimate Rewards website.

    Great video! It’s been awesome seeing your channel grow the last couple of months :) if I have both the chase sapphire reserve and the Discover It card, which would you recommend to use for restaurants this upcoming quarter? Discover 5% cash back is higher than 4.5% back if I use the reserve’s travel portal, but there’s also the potential for a higher % if I transfer points to travel partners right?

    • @TripAstute
      @TripAstute  4 года назад

      Thanks! It’s a good question. You are right that you can potentially get more value on the redemption side of points. I still assume the minimum redemption on points, so I’ll likely opt for the 5% cash back over points. Though if it’s a choice between 5% cash back or 5X points, I’ll always prefer the 5X points. 🤓

    While I gather Whole Foods is great for people looking specifically for that type of grocer experience, it’s regional and the pricier of most options. While my house doesn’t mind paying a bit more for quality selection and a clean, friendly experience, we aren’t willing to travel 45 min for it. I also think Whole Foods was “partner brand” motivated because it’s owned by Amazon. Whereas the customer friendly choice would have been to just award “grocery stores” the %5 bonus. Hopefully as the shutdown climate fluctuates Chase will alter course, like with Q2.

      That's true. I'm curious to see whether Chase will extend the grocery bonus on the CSP and CSR past June. 👍

    It’s unfortunate because I already have the Amazon card from Chase. So before June 30 I’ll have to buy grocery store gift cards.

      Ha! I guess having the Amazon category would be a let down if you already have the Amazon card. 😄

    Uber Eats did code as a restaurant on my Chase Sapphire Preferred Card so you could do a test transaction for Uber Eats and see if it codes as Dining on Discover

    • @TripAstute

      Yeah, I’ll likely run some tests to see how it goes. Sometimes the issuers are less stringent than their fine print (e.g., Costco Gas counting as fuel purchases despite the fine print).

    The 3rd quarter bonus categories are typical selections. Safe plays by the companies. Amazon is a really good option due to everyone tending to shop remotely, our closest whole foods is over an hour away so we wont utilize that. the restaurants and pay pal will be an easy hit for us since we can shop online and use the pay pal option. Have a great day!!!!!

      Not really trying to, but I haven't had a chance to get a haircut since the pandemic started. 😞
      We are expecting a newborn soon, so I'm trying to minimize my exposure until after the baby arrives.
