I LITERALLY CAME TO THE COMMENTS FOR THAT REASON!! The way they kinda just gloss over the reality of what happened to him it’s like…ummmm can we talk about the elephant?
@@75flash Many years later I read Buddy Ebsen’s autobiography “The Other Side of Oz” and he described it rather graphic detail how it first started out as these muscle cramps and then eventually the muscles in his lungs became so cramped that he couldn’t breathe! There is also a big misconception that the aluminum dust that made him sick was in the greasepaint that he wore, but it actually was in the powder that they dusted on him in between shots to keep the makeup looking fresh. They dusted so much of that powder on him that Ebsen breathed so much of it in and as a result he had some type of bronchial condition
@@71crm It wasn't an allergic reaction; he'd been born with a bronchial condition. FUN FACT: Some years later, he played the Scarecrow in a stage version of _Wizard._ 🙂
@@75flash They didn't "gloss over the reality" of anything. Ebsen did become ill, they say that right there. But they didn't have to give every last detail.
I remembered watching this movie on television and it's also one of my favorite movies.
This brings back a lot of memories.
Good Ole John Leader!
R.I.P. to all of the actors of thr original Wizard of Oz movie.

They should have kept The Jitterbug in the movie.
Who else thought it got kinda dark when they talked about how Buddy Ebsen got sick from the makeup he wore as the Tin Man?
