As of November 21th, yesterday I went to the West Portal area of San Francisco, California to visit my good old RECORD STORE that carries over 10,000 used or unused items like LP Vinyls, Cassette tapes and CDs of musics, but the shop also carries movies on VHS tapes, Laserdiscs, DVDs and Blu-ray discs as well. 😁👍
Anyway, while I was at my RECORD STORE, I was completely shocked when I found MGM’s THE WIZARD OF OZ (1939) THE FIFTIETH 50th ANNIVERSARY on its original 1989 VHS📼tape which was still sealed up for 35 years without being used and there was two original 1989 stickers on it. First the small red color sticker on the top right corner of the VHS📼cover says…
    “CONTAINS ADDITIONAL RARE FOOTAGE!”
and second a golden circle sticker on the bottom of Judy(Dorothy)Garland’s smiling face, the golden sticker says…
    “•LIMITED EDITION•
$24.95 ONLY $19.95 AFTER DOWNY REBATE OFFER EXPIRES MARCH 31, 1990
    •COLLECTOR’S BOOKLET•”
But so, after I discovered this 35 year old VHS📼tape of THE WIZARD OF OZ (1939) by surprise, I decided to buy this vintage 1989 VHS📼tape at the cost of $9.99 which was fine. But we all hope that someday this 1989 VHS📼tape will go up at a much higher price by the year 2039 just on time for the…
    “THE WIZARD OF OZ (1939)
100th Anniversary” and the 1989 VHS📼tape will be 50 years old. Great deal on the 1989 VHS📼tape as of November 2024!😅👍

May this cast rest in peace indeed, but this was not the original; that would be the silent movie made in 1910.

Who else thought it got kinda dark when they talked about how Buddy Ebsen got sick from the makeup he wore as the Tin Man?

I LITERALLY CAME TO THE COMMENTS FOR THAT REASON!! The way they kinda just gloss over the reality of what happened to him it’s like…ummmm can we talk about the elephant?

@@75flash Many years later I read Buddy Ebsen’s autobiography “The Other Side of Oz” and he described it rather graphic detail how it first started out as these muscle cramps and then eventually the muscles in his lungs became so cramped that he couldn’t breathe! There is also a big misconception that the aluminum dust that made him sick was in the greasepaint that he wore, but it actually was in the powder that they dusted on him in between shots to keep the makeup looking fresh. They dusted so much of that powder on him that Ebsen breathed so much of it in and as a result he had some type of bronchial condition

      No, not dark, just sad.

@@71crm It wasn't an allergic reaction; he'd been born with a bronchial condition.
FUN FACT: Some years later, he played the Scarecrow in a stage version of _Wizard._ 🙂

@@75flash They didn't "gloss over the reality" of anything. Ebsen did become ill, they say that right there. But they didn't have to give every last detail.

They should have kept The Jitterbug in the movie.
