Wow, an AI researcher that doesn't just say to "how gpt works" - "oh it's just dumb word predictor, it doesn't understand anything". Very refreshing!
I've studied machine learning at university, and when I hear all these researchers representing companies in interviews dumb down this question so much, I roll my eyes.
It's like they've been told by their executives to straight up lie to those questions to avoid any potential ethical/practical concerns. I hope they've been told to, because if they actually believe it's that simple, then we have a problem

Appreciate that! Thanks for watching! It's definitely an interesting concept: it's very simple at a high level but the behaviors you get out of it can be very complicated!

I just found your channel. You have a real gift for explaining abstruse concepts clearly in simple language. Some of the best explanations I've heard of these things.

Iirc in the artistic field mainly animation AI tools were already being use before gen AI was a thing. Most recent example is the across the spider verse movie.
My opinion on gen AI in the art field is that I’m not a fan of it in its current state. it could be used as a tool especially for communicating ideas and inspiration, however the potential abuse for it is massive. Both with the ethics of it and the potential job loss for creatives. This is not even getting into the further commercialization and reduction of meaning of creativity, creative works, and entertainment.

Thanks for watching! I made 2 videos on AI art that pretty much concluded the same thing -- they can be used as tools and that's great, but they can also just be used as automation and that's... not so great.

Thanks again for a great video, Maxime! The sections on whether AI is just "fancy statistics", and how to use AI in creative work, resonated with me the most.
I'd like a more in-depth video on how to start learning AI, maybe considering what background the person already has. For instance, should you learn AI if you hate math? (Couldn't be me, I love math, but some people don't!)
And as constructive criticism: the sections on how AI generators work and how ChatGPT works ended up being too complex for a layperson, in my opinion. Maybe there's a way to simplify this content, like describing matrices as tables (which most people would immediately understand). My suggestion: take a look at the videos by @misterwootube, he's an excellent math teacher that breaks down important concepts to make them more interesting.

Thanks for watching! And thanks for that idea, I'll put it on the list -- breaking it up by what background people have is a good idea. And thanks for the insight, I'll definitely take a look at that channel, always interested in finding ways to make this more accessible!
