Man...TDWP doesn't get the recognition they deserve. Probably one of the most influential bands of our generation. Anyways...I'm gonna go listen to With Roots Above and Branches Below for the thousandth time.
TDWP and Underoath are the most influential bands of the Electronic side of Metalcore 100%. Underoath laid the ground work for the formula, then TDWP was the first band to get the formula right. The Rise Records and Sumerian bands that came after them wouldn't have been the same or as successful hadn't it been for UO and TDWP. No Attack Attack!, Asking Alexandria or any other bands inspired by the latter.
2000-2010 was the most amazing decade of screamo, metal and metalcore. Prime Underoath, TDWP at the top of their game, We Came as Romans, Attack Attack, The Word Alive, A Day to Remember, prime As I Lay Dying, It Dies Today and Killswitch, August Burns Red bursting on the scene, Asking Alexandria, Parkway Drive, Memphis May Fire, Blessthefall, Texas in July…the list goes on. Truly a special time. I was in late middle school, high school and college during that decade. What’s cool is most of these bands are still active today. I’m 35 and still listed to all of them.
With roots above and branches below is such a sacred record man. I’ll never forget watching vh1 at 12 years old and hearing “I know a ghost!” for the first time, leading into some of the most catchy hard hitting double bass patterns I had ever heard at the time. Instant adrenaline and dopamine releases haha
what a weird world. I love TDWP....Saw this a month ago...never looked up Emma...just saw AMITY AFFLICTION LAST WEEK...and Dying Wish was the 2nd band up!! THEY WERE SICK!!! ADDED TO MY SPOTIFY!!!
Went on Headbanger's Boat in October 2023 and Dying Wish killed it! Wish I coulda caught the END cruise. Sixthman does an incredible job with these. Thanks for posting all the vids.
With Roots Above and Branches Below is and always will be the most influential album of my lifetime for me. It guided me through some of the toughest shit I’ve ever experienced and what a joy it has been to see this band grow along with me. 🤟🏼
Out of curiosity, why’s that? Other than for nostalgia which I understand, to a point. I think most fans would agree all of the lineup changes have been for the better, especially in a technical sense. Jon and Sepp brought TDWP back from the brink
@ForTheRecordwithScottyD their music has turned into butt rock radio pop. No more crazy riffs or breakdowns. I'd rather have the first 4 albums sound than this BMTH copy paste like a lot of bands are doing.
@@ForTheRecordwithScottyD I feel like that original lineup is the “true” TDWP. Apparently only the screamer, Mike, is the only Christian of the band now, and they don’t consider themselves a Christian band anymore. Of course, idk enough about the other original members, they might not be Christian anymore either or maybe never wore. Personally, I just think their music was better when they had all the original members. But it’s possible that even if they had them back it might not change much. The original lead guitarist and original drummer were a huge part of the “TDWP sound”. They both had a very unique style. I don’t know what TDWP’s original song creating process was, but I’m just speculating that the original members may have had a big role. Some bands change so much when you get rid of certain members. An example being Slipknot not having their original bassist and drummer, because both of them had a huge role in the song creating process. It’s also possible their sound may be similar to what it is now even if they had their original lineup. The other guy who commented mentioned BMTH. Bring Me the Horizon has had almost the same members since they started. They lost their original 2nd guitarist back after the second album. So they have a non-original guitar player and they added a keyboard/sampler guy I think. A lot of people say the new sampler guy has had a huge role in their sound change, but to be fair, BMTH kept getting softer and softer. The third album was remarkably softer than the second, and so on. I would guess in BMTH’s case, Oliver Sykes has a huge control over their sound and style. To be fair, many bands of that time changed a lot. Underoath doesn’t consider themselves a Christian band anymore either im pretty sure.
I was going to write a novel here but decided better of it: I’ve followed TDWP on and off for about 15 years now and have a pretty decent understanding and appreciation of how they’ve progressed. If you’re interested, Jeremy has a really good interview on the Downbeat which gives a very clear idea of where they’re at and how they operate - highly recommend it. Long story short, none of them are Christian and haven’t been for a long time, I don’t think Mike is either anymore, at least openly. That doesn’t really have a bearing on their songwriting ability though. I used to LOVE those early albums, but listening back now I find them unlistenable. I think they’ve made about as logical of a progression as possible while staying true to their sound and have benefited greatly from it. If they had stuck to their 2009 sound, this video wouldn’t exist. I don’t expect you to suddenly change your mind or anything, but I think it’s important to recognise that early stuff very much as a product of its time, written by a really young band figuring stuff out as they went. Putting out a song in that style now would be laughable.
@@JustSayYourLines I didn’t even know there was a cruise for this. Thanks for capturing this cruise and for putting me onto it. Hoping to go to next year’s cruise with a mate.
It’s a third lower, not an octave. They’ve dropped the tuning of all their older songs to Drop B mainly for the sake of Jeremy’s range, those super high notes are looooong gone

Warped Tour 2009 is one of my fondest memories of my entire life. Right before going away to college. Epic times. The scene was never so alive!

The head bobbers don’t deserve to be in the front row for legends like this.

you should work the gate for the cruise company. then you could get paid for keeping the head bobbers where they belong
