Poor Peter, he must’ve been so regretful. The Bible explains that after his denial, “he wept bitterly”. (Matthew 26:75). But God is so good, Jesus knew how Peter felt so gave him a chance to redeem himself after his resurrection by asking him the question “do you love me?” three times! (John 21:15-17). Jesus gave Peter an opportunity to extinguish his remorse by replacing the three denials with three truths. He really is a loving God.

As a Christian, I sometimes ask myself, in Peter's situation, would I have denied Him too? Of course you'd like to think you wouldn't have, but Peter thought he never would either. You never know sometimes what you would do unless confronted with a situation.

In the gospels, Peter was under *far* less pressure, making his betrayal even more reprehensible. In the movie, Peter denies Jesus because the mob is ready to tear him limb from limb as well. In the Bible, Peter denies Jesus because he was uncomfortable.

For each of the classes represented by the Pharisee and the publican there is a lesson in the history of the apostle Peter. In his early discipleship Peter thought himself strong. Like the Pharisee, in his own estimation he was “not as other men are.” When Christ on the eve of His betrayal forewarned His disciples, “All ye shall be offended because of Me this night,” Peter confidently declared, “Although all shall be offended, yet will not I.” Mark 14:27, 29. Peter did not know his own danger. Self-confidence misled him. He thought himself able to withstand temptation; but in a few short hours the test came, and with cursing and swearing he denied his Lord.
When the crowing of the cock reminded him of the words of Christ, surprised and shocked at what he had just done he turned and looked at his Master. At that moment Christ looked at Peter, and beneath that grieved look, in which compassion and love for him were blended, Peter understood himself. He went out and wept bitterly. That look of Christ's broke his heart. Peter had come to the turning point, and bitterly did he repent his sin. He was like the publican in his contrition and repentance, and like the publican he found mercy. The look of Christ assured him of pardon.

    Everything that both the Lord and Israel had gone through together, was ultimately rejected and God Himself refused. Jesus' heart broke, and was grieved as they began to beat Him... Yet, in His magnificent mercy He did not retaliate with His divine power, but He allowed them. So that the Scripture may be fulfilled;

Thus, the word ISRAEL applies, as it has always done throughout the whole bible history, to God's true church who follow His commandments. There has always been an Israel of the flesh and an Israel of the spirit. That's why Paul said, "they are not all Jews who say they are Jews". And in the Salutation at the end of the letter to the Galatian church, he addresses the whole church as the 'Israel of God".
Jesus said the same in John 8: "IF you WERE Abraham's children then you would do the works of Abraham...but now you seek to kill Me, a Man who has told you nothing but truth. This did not Abraham." That's why Paul calls present day Jerusalem "in bondage with her children, but the Jerusalem which is above (the city of God, the New Jerusalem in heaven) is free, which is the mother of us all." @@themanstan0785it's not but it definitely is framed that way here. It makes it seem Jesus wanted to call Peter's bluff, but the reality is he made him bluff. If Peter hadn't denied him, Jesus would've been wrong about him and that can't be right he's literally Jesus Christ, he can't be wrong.
The implication of free will is lost here when he specifically tells Peter what he's going to do and when he's going to do it.
And if we're getting techinal with it, Peter almost seems like he's snapping out of a trance and not really realizing what he's done rather regaining consciousness after losing control.

The point isn't that he predicted what Peter would do -- or even to make us question what we would do in that situation. The point is that He understood the struggle of man's heart to be righteous. That even the purest among us will do something that others perceive as unforgiveable. He is beside us when we fall, and waits with patience and love for us to stand back up.

Consider this scripture... "That they all may be one; as thou, Father, art in me, and I in thee, that they also may be one in us: that the world may believe that thou hast sent me" (John 17:21). If Jesus was saying in that scripture that he and his Father are in union and then proceeds to pray that his followers "also may be one in us", then that would insinuate that he's praying for his followers to also be on that same level of power as he and his Father is. However Psalms 83:18 says "That men may know that thou, whose name alone is JEHOVAH, art the most high over all the earth."
Additionally, consider John 17:6, Jesus says "I have manifested thy name unto the men which thou gavest me out of the world: thine they were, and thou gavest them me; and they have kept thy word". Jesus is telling his Father that he has "manifested thy name unto the men"... this means that Jesus has made his Father's name known to those he preached to. Many Bible translations have removed the name of Jehovah where it appeared some 7000+ times in the original Hebrew and Greek scriptures. The name of Jehovah will be sanctified throughout the entire inhabited earth before the end comes (Matthew 6:9). If you would like to know more Bible truths and how we can render whole souled worship to Jehovah, please feel free to ask.

I have denied him for fear of being picked on at school as a boy, I have denied him for fear of being ostracized at work, such sad, pathetic little reasons for denying someone who gave so much for me. hey dude Jesus loves you. You should go somewhere today and talk to Him, by yourself. Nature is a good place to do that for me.
      ‭‭Proverbs 15:8
The sacrifice of the wicked is an abomination to the Lord, but the prayer of the upright is acceptable to him.
      Huge passage incoming haha
      ‭‭Romans 3:10-27
[10] As it is written: “None is righteous, no, not one; [11] no one understands; no one seeks for God. [12] All have turned aside; together they have become worthless; no one does good, not even one.” [13] “Their throat is an open grave; they use their tongues to deceive.” “The venom of asps is under their lips.” [14] “Their mouth is full of curses and bitterness.” [15] “Their feet are swift to shed blood; [16] in their paths are ruin and misery, [17] and the way of peace they have not known.” [18] “There is no fear of God before their eyes.”
[19] Now we know that whatever the law says it speaks to those who are under the law, so that every mouth may be stopped, and the whole world may be held accountable to God. [20] For by works of the law no human being will be justified in his sight, since through the law comes knowledge of sin.
[21] But now the righteousness of God has been manifested apart from the law, although the Law and the Prophets bear witness to it- [22] the righteousness of God through faith in Jesus Christ for all who believe. For there is no distinction: [23] for all have sinned and fall short of the glory of God, [24] and are justified by his grace as a gift, through the redemption that is in Christ Jesus.
[25] God put him forward as a propitiation by his blood, to be received by faith. This was to show God’s righteousness, because in his divine forbearance he had passed over former sins. [26] It was to show his righteousness at the present time, so that he might be just and the justifier of the one who has faith in Jesus.
[27] Then what becomes of our boasting? It is excluded. By what kind of law? By a law of works? No, but by the law of faith.

WOW! This scene really penerates your spirit. Knowing what Jesus went through and then what regret Peter must have felt, its almost unimagineable the kind of regret someone would have after such an act of denial against the Lord and Savior. He must have wanted to disappear from existence at that moment when he looked at Jesus.
But being forgiven for even such a transgression shows that Jesus is merciful and understands moments of weakness, he knows our true hearts. All Praise be to God!

Peter obviously had his low moments but let's not be too hard on him. Remember that it was Peter, and no one else, the only one among the 12 disciples, who got out of the boat to walk on water with Jesus. When the Feast of Weeks or Shavuot arrived on Sivan 6 on the Jewish calendar (approx 6 weeks after the resurrection), it was Peter who gathered the remaining disciples and a mixed Jewish population which had come from all over the Roman world. When the time came for one of the disciples to get up in front of that crowd, it was Peter who got up to speak on that day. The rest is history. The book of Acts reports that over 3000 people were saved after Peter spoke to the multitudes. According to Acts, some of these Jews were "strangers from Rome" presumably some of whom heard Peter speak and took the message back to Rome with them. This small group of fledgling Christians from Rome became the nucleus of support for the apostle Paul some 30 years later and eventually changed the entire course of Western history. There's a reason why the Pope sits on the Chair of Peter in the Vatican and wears the Ring of the Fisherman. Peter, we see you!

“When he came to his senses, he said, ‘How many of my father’s hired servants have food to spare, and here I am starving to death! I will set out and go back to my father and say to him: Father, I have sinned against heaven and against you. I am no longer worthy to be called your son; make me like one of your hired servants.’ So he got up and went to his father.
“But while he was still a long way off, his father saw him and was filled with compassion for him; he ran to his son, threw his arms around him and kissed him.
“The son said to him, ‘Father, I have sinned against heaven and against you. I am no longer worthy to be called your son.’
“But the father said to his servants, ‘Quick! Bring the best robe and put it on him. Put a ring on his finger and sandals on his feet. Bring the fattened calf and kill it. Let’s have a feast and celebrate. For this son of mine was dead and is alive again; he was lost and is found.’ So they began to celebrate.

When Peter tried to walk on the water and failed, Jesus gave His hand to pulled him up. Jesus healed Peter's mother in law. And at the end, Peter denied Jesus for 3 times. And Jesus still forgave him. How great is our God❤
