This song was played at every one of my middle and high school dances, and then more often than not, at bars in university. It’s ubiquitous here in Canada. This was a classic “test your car speakers” song, along with “mama said knock you out” by LL CoolJ back in the day!
I still remember this being a song that I knew about before most everyone else in my school, and by the time they caught on to it, I practically knew all the words & they all thought I was brilliant for being able to sing it in its entirety. Huge in Canada in the late 80s.... but it really took like a year from the time it was released to become a hit.
This is really the O.G. of rap/hip hop in Toronto or all of Canada at that. '88 or '89? 1st one to do it. I was 6 so it must be '88. I remember my mom bought me this and my brother Rob Base & Dj Ez Rock. Two different color Walkman and we would switch tapes. Damn I'm old. Lol
This song was 🔥 from day one and has not stopped since. In my opinion, the most important Canadian rap song ever. Maestro laid the groundwork for future generations.
Maestro established Canadian hip hop within the mainstream and paved the way for Drake. You should also listen to his other song titled Drop The Needle cuz not many people on RUclips react to that gem.
Loved this song! Best lyric “So many suckers on my sacroiliac It's like a rap-sack, backpack, wic-wic-whack, give me some slack jack” Thanks for the memory!!
Maestro Fresh Wes, some old classic Canadian hip hop. You should check out something from the Dream Warriors, they were from Toronto as well, a great song suggestion from them would be Day in Day Out, or My Definition. Or if you want some fun you can check out Tom Green's old hip hop group Organized Rhyme and their hit song Check the OR
He's got another great track with a couple other Canadian legends. "Quit While You're Ahead" Classified feat. Maestro and Moka Only. It's way more modern yet super dope!!!
Unamerican yes we know Canadian and to clear up confusion Canada uses different colours on its bills ones were green and two's brown but both replaced with coind. 5's blue, 10's purple, 20's green, 50's red, 100's brown. ( which is what he meant about making in canada. There was a $1, 000 bill also red but only traded between banks. $100.00 Bill had the Queen on one side and Prime Minister Laurier on the other. He was the Prime Minister in WW1. Our equivalent to USA Benjamin's. ( Frankin).
I used to have the biggest crush on MFW back in the day, when he was dropping music in the late 90s-2000s as well as acting. Please react to Maestro - "Stick to Your Vision" and Choclair - "Let's Ride."
Old school hip hop for the win!🏆 Maestro Fresh Wes is now hosting a sand building competition show in Canada. You guys should check out Iesha by Another Bad Creation.
A hip hop tactician is what he was and is. Nice to see your younger view on what I grew up with. Edit-"So many suckers on my sacchrailiac" just was the coolest thing to hear rather than 'on my ass', it was a cool writing.
Canadian content! If you want something newer from Maestro, his big song when I was in high school was Stick To Your Vision, which is such a flow. It's a bit reminiscent of Tupac's Dear Mama in that way.
It has to have a killer groove. If rap doesn't have it I won't listen to it. This song shakes your booty big time. Rock the socks all in!! Great video. Thanks again!!!!
I knew him in college at Carleton University. He lived in my rented room the year before I did and called to talk to my roommate all the time. He called us the night before this video dropped on MuchMusic in Canada.
No wait yo hold up hold up.....Now f**k it 🔥🔥🔥 was like 11 when I first heard Symphony in Effect at my buddy's place living in Scarbs..this was my favorite part 😂
Too bad Canadian hip hop has been lost. It was so good in the 90's and early 2000's. Now there is Drake an American mumble puppet. Edit: Northern Touch

Tons of respect to my Toronto brother, the Godfather of Toronto Hip Hop! Thanks for checking this out!

Greatest rapper to come out of Canada 🇨🇦 This brought me back to late 80’s early 90’s.
Well, I think Buck 65 is the greatest rapper to come out of Canada, but OK.
Wow, this brought back so many great memories. He’s also a great actor!
Mr Dwyer!
So was his American counterpart, Tupac Shakur.

He says in the song, “it’s ‘89 y’all, not Beethoven’s 5th or 6th”.

Another great Canadian artist! I remember being in the clubs in Toronto when this came on and everyone would go crazy!!!!
It's so awesome that you're wearing a Toronto Blue Jays hat when you review a Toronto legend like M.F. Wes!!!
Maestro established Canadian hip hop within the mainstream and paved the way for Drake. You should also listen to his other song titled Drop The Needle cuz not many people on RUclips react to that gem.
He was huge in Toronto. Well all of Canada back in the day.

Memories!!! Maestro Fresh Wes was the second concert I went to. He opened for Young MC. Back in the day.... Good times - great reaction!!! Go Jays!
Made my morning here in Toronto! grew up with this on TV a lot.

Wesley Williams is the artist. I sat beside him in typing class Senator O’Connor Catholic High, Toronto circa 1984’. Very nice guy!
BJ couldn't look more T Dot if he tried with the all blue and Jays hat rocking out to OG canuck rap! ✌

I was hoping someone mentioned Classified and Moka Only.
Speaking of Classified and Canada, Classified - Oh Canada if y'all see this! :)

Loving your Toronto Blue Jays cap!!!!
Another by them: 'Conductin' Thangs'. In a similar vein there's 'Let it Ride' by Choclair.
Drop the needle his other big hit back in the day. The man knows how to string syllables together.
Conductin' Thangs was my fave back in the day.
A hip hop tactician is what he was and is. Nice to see your younger view on what I grew up with. Edit-"So many suckers on my sacchrailiac" just was the coolest thing to hear rather than 'on my ass', it was a cool writing.
First time hearing this and Loving it 🔥💜
Glad you enjoy it!
Dont know how I missed this? Super nice :)
I see you are enjoying maestro the inventor of hip hop I saw him live and met him ❤
Oh go Canada.
Next do Kardinal Official, Jelleestone or Saukrates, someone from the 90s-early 00s.. lol 💗 ✊️ 😆
That one and drop the needle was another good song of his.
The main sample in the background in the track called "The Champ" by The Mohawks (1968)
So happy right now thank you :)
Canadian hip hop legend
Maestro was wicked back in the day.
That's my jam! I still bump this Canadian boom-bap on the regular!

I don't remember ever hearing this but it was a fun beat.
This is a showdown!
I knew him in college at Carleton University. He lived in my rented room the year before I did and called to talk to my roommate all the time.
He called us the night before this video dropped on MuchMusic in Canada.
Was introduced to this in high school by a friend from Toronto. Classic 🔥
forgot this song even existed. thx for the reaction
Maestro is a legend!!!!! We danced our ass of in the club!
Please react to old time killin from Kardinal Official
Love it ❤️🇨🇦
90's wasn't done with the fun essence of hip hop, no way. Digital underground humpty dance, house of pain jump around. The fun wasn't over yet.
That was awesome.
I met Wesley right before that song dropped on MuchMusic in 88.
Classic Canadian hip hop! Brings back memories! :)
Love it. It was the jam in the day. Classic

You should follow up with Drop the Needle and Conductin’ Thangs. 👌🏽
