    I design rack systems for a living and Jordans idea is on point. Putting the beam over the door is what we refer to as a tunnel bay. Loved seeing him work through it.

    You need to bolt your racking down to the floor. It will get bumped by a forklift at some point. If it isn't bolted down correctly, it will tip over and it will be a disaster. Not just because of the mess since falling racking can easily kill. Get drilling and bolting boys. Besides that, it is a pretty good setup. might as well do the bottom attachment now, before it has been broken or filled with slabs. Less material to move out of the way and easy to prevent from being another project later on when you are trying to produce completed projects and are done setting up the shop.
    Also, when you set up the pouring room, don't put anything in front of the electrical panel like the previous owners did. Or in front of any electrical panel. Not even a table. Electricians and safety people really hate it and it also is a massive fire hazard in industrial settings, especially one where wood dust is going to be produced and flung into the air. 3 feet in front clear and 1 foot on either side of the panel cleared of floor space. Makes it easier to reset a breaker you trip accidently too.

  • @shireschooley3786

    You should definitely think about putting one shelf on the bottom. It will make the racking more stable and keep your wood off of concrete. So they're not pulling any moisture off the concrete

    • @gabemyers6811
      @gabemyers6811 2 года назад +3

      I second this! as a warehouse manager that has put up racking like this for over 10+ years on my own, it will make things way more sturdy, and also I would guess that if there's massive rain storms in your area and water does happen to creep into your shop (I've seen it, it WILL happen lol), you'll be thanking yourself if you have those slabs up off the floor; as a general rule, perishables such as that, have off the floor for that same reason.

    Great lumber rack. Maybe just add a base to lift the slabs off the concrete. Also printing a bunch of paper labels of common species you work with and keep them near the lumber storage with a stapler. That way you don’t have to try and remember and you don’t have to ask everyone else in the shop if they remember.

  • @teaguewhite26

    You need corner bumper bracers on 3 of those front legs that bolt into floor, because someone will eventually get squirrelly and hit one of those legs. As you folks are clearly not familiar with that rack system, let's just say catastrophic failure proceeds a tapped leg not supported from bottom.

  • @wakerider16

    I have put together lots of pallet racking like these I would recommend getting some concrete anchors and anchoring all of those shelfs to the ground and some long bolts to bolt the arms into the verticals. The reason is just incase someone hits it with a fork lift the whole thing should not shift also for just general rigidity of the shelving.
