Strongest Braid to Braid Fishing Knot [Modified Double Uni Knot]

  • It's fishing knot time again! Of all the knots for fishing, the braid to braid knot is probably the least used...
    But we still must make time to ensure all connections are maximized so that we don't lose the biggest fist of the day due to a break-off.
    To read the full blog post on this "Strongest Braid to Braid fishing knot", click here now:

    Most of all, a braid to braid connection is used to splice two sections of braid to save money and time in re-spooling...
    Specifically, it allows anglers to load their full spool with braid to maximize the amount of line in the spool for when a really big fish is on, while still be able to re-spool faster and more affordably given that the line towards the bottom of the spool that is mostly untouched can stay in the spool as backing while only changing out the top ~100 yards of line that gets weakened the most due to usage.
    After testing out many knots for the braid to braid connection, I found that the modified double uni knot outperformed them all.
    This knot is easy to tie, has a small profile, and it has scored that highest in terms of average breaking strength of all that I have tested.
    Use the comments section below to ask any questions you may have or to recommend another knot for me to test.

    You aren’t going to believe this but I was searching for quite some time for a knot that would not come apart when I’m joining new yarn for my socks! I knit all of my hubby’s socks and occasionally when I join two different yarns they would come apart in the washing machine. Not anymore! Thanks so much for reminding me about this knot. I was raised in a fishing family and had completely forgotten about it. Blessings! Beverly

    This knot IS extremely powerful, I almost got spooled by an accidental cobia hookup while fishing for spanish here in NC and this knot handled very well. You should've seen my facial expression when I felt the knot go through my guides toward the fish but landed him after a really good fight. Was fishing with a very small penn pursuit 3000 with 20lb braid. Awesome tutorial! Keepem coming!

    I was searching for a knot to add a mono leader to braid. I found several but the videos all demonstrated with heavy line. They were all very difficult when using light line. I came across the double uni which I used in fly fishing and tried that. Much easier to get a good knot and they pass through the eyelets smoothly. Tried it out on a new ultralight rig and it casts perfectly. I added a tiny drop of crazy glue to the knot per the recommendation in the video.

    I never use braid mainline only as backing and it does get rough spots on it during a long run from time to time. So this was also the best knot I could think of for tying braid to braid and it really does hold up well. Only difference is cover the knot with my thumb and index finger and trim the tag ends using a lighter to keep the ends of the braid from fraying. I use a modified Albright special for everything else, some call it an ‘Alberto’ knot

    This is often used in the UK for attaching light braid (20-30lb) to a heavy braid leader (70lb+). It sounds weird, but a lot of anglers use it whilst beach fishing with 15ft through-action rods and it chucks the lead and bait out of sight. The anglers that use braid leaders use this knot to attach it to their mainline. Great video mate.

      @@Saltstrong What about using the bimini twist for a braid mainline to braid leader? Have you tried it yet it's much much stronger than this knot if using it for a leader knot and incredibly neat & tidy. I would highly recommend the bimini over this for leader knot although as you say this is a great knot for tying braid mainline together 👍

    • @BigT73
      @BigT73 5 лет назад

      You need to be using a specific leader knot Brodie like the bimini twist or even the fg knot which works impeccably for braid to braid as well as braid to mono/flouro it's incredibly strong but if you are fishing hard ground us cod Anglers in the North east use a bimini twist as there's no chance of the knot failing the 200lbs braid will break before the knot does. The bimini is also silent when casting it doesn't clunk through the rings at all its very smooth indeed.

    forgot to lick the line with your spit to lubricate it. 😅 Lol I dunno if it actually matters or not, but other videos I have seen of this and other knots they did that and said, tightening the knot without wetting it could, in theory, weaken the knot due to the friction heat generated by the tightening

    • @Saltstrong
      @Saltstrong  2 года назад

    For freshwater bass fishing, where breaking strength isn't an issue, I've found 4 turns is enough to keep the braid from slipping. With the Albright Knot, which I first tried, even 10 loops around slipped easily.

    Thanks for the advice😊 do you have any videos on when to change your braided line? Mine looks as if it's fraying but it's super strong to the pull....?

      I haven't published anything about that in detail, but my general rule of thumb is that I change line when its color changes and it shows signs of fraying. Sounds like you may be at that point, but if you see that pull tests are up to par then of course continue on with the line.

    Dude!! Thank you 🙏
    I have some 15lb braid to add to my trout set up for trolling out of my kayak. Some of these lakes need ya to go deep (😏... we'll leave that one alone)...
    Cheers man
