Why give so much importance to a company that is not even in the top 20 of the world's largest steel producers (China has the largest steel company in the world and several others in the top 10). If the company is being sold it is because it is no longer competitive and probably not very profitable. Even Luxembourg, which is a tiny country, produces more than the 3 largest US steel companies combined.
Japan will probably restructure the company and lay off or replace a some workers to make it more productive. Surely the company will continue to maintain its business, I don't see the company stopping selling steel to U.S. companies.

They should be grateful that an Allie like Japan’s was willing to pay a premium for US Steel instead of the lowball offer the other U.S. company offered. And U.S. Steel is much better off under Nippon’s guidance. And a Japanese company is a lot different than a Chinese company - who are clearly advesaries- making a purchase.
