Even though I was a kid, this WAS the theme! This was the era where 98% of the stories and guests were real. If you read his book Ringmaster you'd know but the fact he goes from Mayor of Cincinnati, to a legit talk show host to the host we know today is absolutely legendary!

My dad was a regular viewer of both The WB and WPIX (the affiliate of my former city, New York/Brooklyn) cause he loved "Bozo the Clown" (cause that show was what made WPIX channel 11 well-known). To his credit he hated this show though, but he would see it to mock how stupid this show was (much to my chagrin - I thought this show was uncultured crap) but we could not see eye to eye. UPN was better and more popular than The WB. WWOR was more popular than WPIX. UPN/Warner Bros./WB flagship FTW. "Bey" > "Springer." His other favorite company was CBS (speaking of CBS, he loved WCBS 880, which sucked balls). And he was a loyal WCBS watcher

My late great grandma Mary Hunter: Rip: use to watch Jerry Springer a lot!! especially when I was a baby, and I would go over to her house, she would always have The Jerry springer show on. She would always ask my granny Nene: "Bring me that remote cause Jerry springer is coming on!!" It use to come on channel 5 inn Los Angeles at 11AM. those were some great times. Rest in peace Granny g. She passed away in the spring of 2012 at the age of 74.

Jerry Springer wasn't the only talk show in the 1990s to exploit guests in such rather bizarre manner. You had Maury Povich. You had Phil Donohue. As well as you had Geraldo Rivera and Charles Perez. Jerry Springer spin-off Steve Wilkos. You also had Sally Jessy Raphael, Jenny Jones, and Ricki Lake. Several of these names, most notably Jerry, Maury, Sally, and Geraldo, came from news and journalism backgrounds. Common theme in Jerry's show was love triangles and homewreckers, and participants engaging in actual fist fights. Maury's show is mostly DNA paternity tests with unwed mothers sleeping around with multiple deadbeat dads, as well as out of control teens/kids. Sally's show was mostly out of control teens/kids, and abusive relationships. Notable incident that occurred on Geraldo's show was the episode where you had a big fight with a group of racists, and one of them throwing a chair that hit Geraldo in the face, breaking his nose. That episode made it to air. Notable incident that occurred on Jenny's show was the gay guy that had a crush on a straight male friend and were accompanied by a female friend, and the straight guy killed the gay friend 3 days after taping. That show never made it to air. Charles Perez also had an incident on his show where a woman lied about who she was, and was impersonating someone else who had no interest in being on the show, and the woman who lied about who she was accompanied by a female friend who was apparently in on this particular scheme. Woman who was impersonated sued the show and the 2 ladies involved for punitive damages. What a lot of these guests going on these trash talk shows don't realize, and even if they are good people in real life, is their reputations are subject to suffer greatly, and they also don't realize the bad message being sent to audiences watching these shows. Granted, a lot of the guests that go on these shows may very well be paid actors and actresses, and aren't really who they say they are. There are private matters that are best to be kept private.
Goddamn, this takes me back. Jerry Springer reruns used to play at 12:00 every day on the television here in Queensland and I'd watch them when I would go home on lunch break. Now whenever I hear the sound of this music, it has this weird Pavlovian effect of making me instantly relax for 45 minutes by association. LMAO
yes, the 90's, back when in Texas, trucks were only allowed to go 60 by day/55 by night on rural interstates, and gas had never been $2 a gallon. that would have been outrageous in those times. $1 a gallon was more common for gasoline then. DVR's were unheard of, until TiVo in 1999. VCR's and CD players were expensive commodities, nowadays they are outdated/obsolete. Bill Clinton was president of the United States, best democratic president this country ever had in my opinion.
VCRs were fairly cheap by the time Springer hit his prime in 97/98. DVD players on the other hand just came out and were priced at $500- and you couldn’t record. My dad bought one for my mom for Christmas ‘97. You wouldn’t believe how amazing the quality looked when you were used to VHS.
