The construction of the somewhat local pylons I have had the opportunity to drive past as a child always reminded me of big, smiling clowns. I also thought of them as robots that could uproot themselves from their spot and walk away, laughing happily. It helped me stop being so afraid of metal structures 😂 (I was terrified of all sorts of bridges and technical-electrical things. It was odd, to say the least 😂 the complexity of the build and internal wiring was what scared me, lol.)
This awakens a deep fear of mine... Whenever I used to travel by trains, I saw pylons all across the countryside. I used to imagine that pylons were some sort of sleeping, metallic lovecraftian creature that would attack the train and kill us all. Especially the pylons that had two of those pointed "horns" at the top. Those used to make me very anxious. The one-horned ones were fine though.
I feel a similar thing but more like a god. I used to hang out in the trails they carved and take pictures of them. I still feel a sort of spiritual connection. Even to the small regular wood ones.
Yeah I'm pretty sure this game is specifically inspired by a specific children's PSA from the 70s I believe. A girl and a boy are playing outside with a frizzbe until it gets stuck in a pylon. The boy ignores all the danger and safety warning signs and attempts to climb the pylon to get their frizzbe back. He gets electrocuted and dies
I just realized that the pylons in the second splash screen (3:58) have gotten closer to the house than they were in the first (0:20). That's a neat touch!
The creepiness of the pylons walking reminds me of this gif I saw once of pylons playing jump rope. It didn't help that they were the only things moving in the gif, giving it a sort of alternate reality vibe that awoke a primal fear within me.
I loved the walking pylon scare. It just looks like a pylon that got bent and damaged, part of the background, but nope it was actually a monster midstride.
This reminds me of when I was a kid I had a fear of pylons caused they look humanoid and I was scared to death that one day they just start moving towards me. Fun times
_Well, they are transmission towers after all_ They tell you electricity comes from the power plants to inside your house through the 'grid'. That makes it sound so scientific & safe. But you never know what exactly they're transmitting besides electricity... I really liked this little game & it absolutely did have a Junji Ito feel to it. And your creepy narration added the perfect touch MBH!
I hate how much I love this game?? Ugh it’s so interesting. The sound design and art style fit so well with the theme. Plus pixel horror games are fun most of the time.
This remind me of a satirical cartoon in a newspaper here in Norway several years back. It was about the controversial decision to build some giant power pylons, and depicted one of our polititians as a power pylon following another polititian.
Pylons... I always liked hearing their hum when walking underneath them. Also, if I had to describe this game, I'd say it's like a mix between Faith and Camp Sunshine... and it's from the creator of The third shift? Neat!
If you’re like me and didn’t know what pylons were, this game was not only scary but educational, lol. Like the time I found out the plastic bit at the end of a shoe lace is called an aglet. Thanks, Phineas and Ferb. 🤣 I don’t know who wakes up and says “I got it: a horror game about pylons”, but I salute you. This game was great! It had that retro games vibe and it did remind me of the Faith series! Very much enjoyed this and learned something new today. So, bonus points!
When I saw the part with the frisbee, I was reminded of the British PSA about not playing around pylons that showed a kid climbing on one to get, I believe, a soccer ball and getting electrocuted to death. A radio news program after the kid is fried makes it quite clear he died.
This game neatly taps into my love for all things Scarfolk. It's so beautifully observed using the unintentionally terrifying British style PSA's. The little Pylon mascot is particularly on point.
This game really freaks me out, and the reason why is pretty interesting. See, I can't exactly remember what it was, but SOMETHING I played or watched had these exact sounds, graphics, and unnatural, old aesthetic. I DISTINCTLY REMEMBER seeing a character that EXACTLY resembles the pylon with a face. Maybe it was the video game section in the "history of rats" video from Ratatouille, or possibly some game or cartoon from the Thomas The Tank Engine franchise.
You can see the mettle mother in the field during the lightning strikes, somehow went from the forest to the field to your location in seconds along with dozens of pylons appearing
Something about 2d 8-bit horror games hit different than 3d horror games, might be the lack of jumpscares in 2d games that scares me. Anyone else feel the same way?
Now the thing is with jumpscares in this game, you're expecting them since you know you're about to get caught. Unlike in FNAF where you almost never expect it.
Remember what the game says. Lesson:don't play near pylons and be aware and respect the pylons. And remember respect the other tall electricity tower buildings that you saw in the middle of the road.
High key this legit creepy af ngl but i love it it scared tf out of me when the pylon. actually started running and i was watching this in the dark it really upped the creep factor.

My parents told me these things were called “Transformers”, so I thought they could walk around like robots. This is not what I meant.
To be precise, transformers are those big box things on smaller pylons.
