- In this video we delve deeper into BTS and find out who they are. This definitely helped Mark and I get a better idea of who they are and how hard they worked to get to where they are.
We also listened to some songs (with the eng lyrics) and we really enjoyed The truth untold, Stigma, 4 o'clock and Ddaeng (this was our favorite).

Namjoon (RM) and Suga (Yoongi) had a lot of pent up anger because of all the hard times they went through. As the video said, Namjoon got hate comments because he became an idol, which is looked down upon by underground rappers. Also, the beauty standards problem, which is really stupid but thats their society. They are also LGBT supporters in a very close minded country, which is a big thing itself. Yoongi said in an interview how "everyone is equal" when they were asked about it. Also, Yoongi got hate comments because of becoming an idol too, but also because of his feminine looks. As tough as he looks on stage, his looks are very soft and delicate and he's extremely pretty, but again, korean beauty standards. Hoseok (J-Hope) had it a bit easier since he wasn't involved in any underground scene, he was a street dancer before he became a trainee. He learned to rap and during the years he tried to find his own style. He did have his own issues tho, he doesn't handle stress well and he used to have panic attacks often in the beginning. They made the Cyphers (1, 2, 3 and 4) to respond to their haters and you can see how they're really aggressive in the beginning, especially Cypher 2 which was made as a response to B-Free calling Yoongi and Namjoon girls for wearing makeup on stage. Cypher 4 is not that angry because by that time (2016) they already had their fair share of awards and many supportive comments and they were better at dealing with the hate that comes with being a k-pop idol. Ddaeng is a song that can also be considered a Cypher because it's also about haters and fake friends, being about how their "friends" from other companies looked down on them because they were in a small company and struggled a lot with money. Also, since they started being known worldwide and even performed at the BBMAs and AMAs, people started saying how they need western validation and other bs like that. Ddaeng is a song made based on korean traditional music and the rap line (RM, Suga, J-Hope) respond directly to it. I also recommend reacting to their mixtapes, RM, Agust D and Hope World. This is the best way to see their own styles and how Hoseok managed to find his. Namjoon's mixtape, RM, is about his identity struggle, the hate and he talks about his mental health. Yoongi's mixtape, Agust D, is also about his own mental health, his struggles, and the hate he got. By far Yoongi's is the most aggressive mixtape because for him music was the only way to express his feelings. He let them all out in his mixtape. Agust D means DT Suga, DT being Daegu Town, his hometown. He's very proud of it so he makes sure to include in many of his lyrics. Also, currently he's not that savage and silent anymore, he's literally a fluff ball. Hoseok's mixtape, Hope World, talks about his struggles, about how he wants to give people positive energy, being a "piece of peace", but also about his idol struggles. The lack of privacy, the need to act in a certain way, even tho BigHit is one of the greatest companies and always makes sure the boys have as much freedom as they can, the k-pop industry still has rules they have to follow.

Just a note to you guys. If you want to become good armys please don't learn from youtube or instagram or facebook. twitter is the best place for a new army. a tip, is not to become a no jam (which a lot of fb, yt, and ig armys are.) which includes learning "inside jokes" and using -eu. please don't listen to expensive girl, namjoon (rm) has much better works and i recommend starting with his mixtape, RM. he has some music videos including 'joke' and 'change' ft. wale. also, the rap line (j-hope; hoseok, and suga; yoongi) have their own mixtapes, hoseok's being 'hope world' and yoongi's being 'agust d'. also, it's best to learn their real names as stage names like v can be pretty cringy to use. these are good places to start. best of luck with becoming a well formed army. my twitter is @hesyourhope if you'd like to get a bit of extra guidance so that i can help you skip becoming a no jam (cringy army mocking bts' english) or listening to things like expensive girl. we left that song in the past for a reason. good luck!

Mark and Kayleb I'd don't want to come out rude but y'all at the start contemplating on who's bias is who when you didn't know much about other members so yeah get to know the members before you get a bias the army hole will be much more smooth! Also, BTS come from an agency that actually respect them as individuals, so they're beyond K-pop not only because of their artistry but also, because their agency helped them to grow as people/artists instead of manhandling like mannequins u.u

You are so right. This is a perfect response to why BTS is so beyond the KPOP genre at the moment. They're a group of talented like minded individuals who got signed by a small company that actually care about the quality of work that they put out instead of just making the quick buck. It's really amazing how the universe and stars aligned just at the right moment to create this incredible group and we really are fortunate to be alive during this time.
And the boys were picked after they auditioned but they were friends for 2-3 years before debut. RM and Suga were frens for 8 years.

Actually it's not fine Not everyone is OK with the comparison cuz they're nothing alike, And there are reasons behind why ARMY Are sensitive about comparisons to other groups and Why they feel the need to correct people about the age thing. But we shouldn't be attacking people who are new and genuinely interested in BTS cuz they don't know most of this stuff. People attack BTS by saying all their fans are kids in a negative way. Being a young fan isn't wrong but a huge part of the fandom is adults
I'm going to have to agree with AR-TRINI about this. There's enough bad history behind comparing BTS to other boybands and the whole stigma of their fans being "12 year old girls" that it's ignorant to ridicule or dismiss ARMYs for being "sensitive."
Nonetheless, I also agree that we shouldn't be harsh with new people for making assumptions without giving them a chance to become more informed. ARMYs are really great at providing corrected information very quickly. And this channel is being pretty respectful about it too (kudos to you two!).

Tbh I think ARMYs blew the whole thing out of proportion. When they mentioned 1D in the last video, they even said themselves that they dont mean to compare them and that BTS is even better, but still everyone went on a rampage in comments.
It's also very common that when people are introduced to new things they tend to relate it with things they're familiar with. The girls watched BTS and apparently BTS reminded them of 1D. There was little to no comparison. And if they did compare it would be in BTS' favor. I really think people are being a little dramatic. What they said isn't that big of a deal.
V, Jimin, and Jhope are known as the 'Sunshine Line' because they are usually the funny ones or you can say they bring happiness to the group.

The thing is, BTS kind of were handpicked, so Mark is right. But it was a mixture of being scouted, auditioning, and being handpicked. The creator of BTS, Bang PD, centred the group around finding the right people to be with RM (so RM is the heart of BTS, really).
Another thing is BTS are an anomaly in the kpop industry. They're from a small company called Big Hit, and usually groups from small companies don't gain any success, much less the kind BTS got. The most successful groups are usually from the "Big 3" companies, which are SM, YG, and JYP. BTS also produce and write I'd say a good 90% of their songs which not a lot of kpop idols do. Usually their companies just give them songs.
All of BTS (except maybe Jin and V) are also not the conventions of Korean beauty, especially compared to other groups, so when they debuted, everyone laughed and said they were ugly and weren't going to be successful, coming from a small company.
If you want to know why they're so close, it's because they live together. Since like 2010, they've been living, all 7 of them, in a tiny apartment where they all shared one room. Now they're successful enough to move to one of the richest places in Korea to live together with their own rooms.
Masearte Abraha she said it right. V and Jin were kind of an exception. V was even said to be BTS secret weapon because he was revealed to the public right before they debuted. Jungkook was a shy kid who doesn’t stand out that much because well yeah, he’s basically a baby at 13 or 14 (international age), 15 (korean age). And for Jimin, he’s a bit of a chubby with muscles when he debuted (still a baby) but because of the harsh criticism they got, he took it to heart and started dieting. It was so sad because he really suffered for it .(which shouldn’t even be questioned because the guy is still in his puberty and needs a lot of nourishments) but look at them now, puberty did them well and not to mention- when other idol groups have plastic surgeries (bec their companies afford it) BTS never did anything to their faces. It was all natural (bless Bighit for not forcing any of them under the knife). BTS are indeed an anomaly to the kpop community. That’s why they’ve always been isolated. But because of that, BTS and BH valued each other’s trust. When stations wont even gave them a chance in the spotlight, cutting their broadcast, insulting them at variety shows that made the boys scared on even appearing on one. Because of those incidents, BH valued the kids hearts and made their own variety shows,( who are far more interesting tbh) made their own way to somehow be exposed in the spotlight through social media’s and releasing free music contents online for people to hear them~ that what you call passion. And really, look at them now.. ARMYs would always be emotional bec like Namjoon said. - the past is what makes BTS become who they are. It’s a part of them that he’s refuses to forget.-
The real reason why ARMYs would fight for BTS, because they are not only our voices, but they are also our hearts and hope that living in this generation is still alright and acceptable.

Masearte Abraha Ah in the old days back in like 2013-2015, actually Jimin was called ugly by a lot of people. Even the members ranked him 7th in looks and I really think that took a toll on his self-confidence (and caused him do eventually do things like eat once every 10 days in order to lose weight and look "handsome"). Several times he called himself ugly, too. Also back in the old days, JK was a small skinny 15 year old so he didn't look like how he looks now...that was when he didn't grow up yet, so his features were too big for his face and he was a little shy

Suppose Not Jungkook was a little shy, that is the understatement of the year. He's a little shy now back then that boy did everything not to be noticed except when on stage. I think that's why I noticed him first he was always hiding in the back. Once I finally saw those big beautiful eyes and heard that amazing voice I was a goner. Also I still see a lot of that shyness in him now.

idk if anyone's told you yet, but many of the BTS videos all link together and tell a story that's set in a fictional universe, and there are tons of clues and theories about the story. It's one of my favourite things about the BTS fandom.
You don't have to always apologize. Some BTS or Kpop fans can be vicious and get offended over stupid things like messing their names up or making comparisons to 1D or some other Kpop group. Just ignore them. You do you!

About korean beauty standards , for idols they like delicate figure , so idols that have a strong face like RM and jhope they get called out "ugly" or "intimidating" , Korean beauty standards are really different from Western , and it's not just BTS members suffered about it , a lot others groups get criticised and a lot , but now that kpop it's getting more popular worldwide some idols that were criticised before for their looks are getting more recognized . Just so you now idols there have to be a role model so they have to be "perfect" . perfect skin , hair , they have to be skinny , can't get involved in scandal with drugs or dates or anything controversial or they can have their reputation destroyed .

Also, here's a little more info that they don't give you in this video:
*Jin (26)* was discovered when getting off a bus by SM Entertainment (one of the *Big Three* Idol companies). They literally chased him down and gave him a business card. He turned them down, though because thought it was a scam. He later auditioned for BigHit because he originally wanted to pursue acting but ended up becoming a member of BTS.
*Suga (25)* auditioned to be a Rapper for BigHit but came in second. So he thought he was being kept on to just be a Producer. But they ended up wanting him to be a Main Rapper in BTS.
*JHope (24)* was a street performer, that's accurate. He's known for his Popping ability and controlled movements. He actually trained at a Dance Academy that's owned/ran by a member from another Idol Group (Seungri from BigBang). But he had to audition for BigHit.
*RM (24)* was one of the first members who was actually scouted because of his Underground Rap (I say one of the first, because at that time there were other potential members for BTS, like Supreme Boi). Also, RMs IQ is 148 and he tested in the Top 1% of all South Korea. Boys is hella smart. He flipping learned how the English Language worked but watching the sitcom, Friends. Crazy.
*Jimin (23)* was attending a Performing Arts School in Busan. He was the Top Dance Student and his grades were also in the top percentile. One of his dance instructors encouraged him to audition for BigHit and so he did. He also knows Kendo (sword fighting) and has a black belt in TaeKwonDo.
*V (22, soon to be 23)* was indeed raised by farmers, but he was discovered when he accompanied a friend to his friend's audition. BigHit saw V at his friend's audition and encouraged him to do an audition. He did, and was signed. He also played the Saxophone and wanted to attend a Performing Arts School for that, but didn't practice enough the night before the audition and so didn't make it.
*Jungkook (21)* was the only one who was technically "scouted" by BigHit. This was because he auditioned for a Talent show but was cut after the second round. But like 8 different agencies, including the *Big Three (SM, JYP, and YG),* contacted him wanting to sign him. He ended up choosing BigHit because he saw videos of RM rapping. He's hella athletic and has a Black Belt in TaeKwonDo.

I've literally just consumed so much content from them and watched so many interviews/Bangtan Bombs/Behind the Scenes stuff that I picked up on all this.
And as much as I love Squishy Min Yoongi's videos, she does have some incorrect information. So, I like to spread the correct info when I can. These boys have worked hella hard and have all come so close to quitting at so many different points.........Suga almost left several times before and even right after debut, Jungkook thought about leaving at one point, a few years ago, Jimin almost left around the same time that JHope actually Did leave. RM straight up had to go to JHope and convince him to come back to BTS.
And just yesterday, they said at the MAMA awards that they almost disbanded earlier this year but decided not to. 😭😭😭
I'm so glad they didn't but I can only imagine the pressure. So, I always wanna make sure their stories are accurate and that credit is given where credit is Certainly due. You know?

None of them knew each other before joining bighit, they met when they joined the company. They all auditioned different times to be trainees for the company. Some of them went to audition themselves and some have been offered to audition by bighit whether it was for their looks (in jin's case) or talent (in jungkook's case). They were trained by bighit so they could debut. As you guys saw, RM was the first to join bighit, then it was suga, then j-hope, then jin, then jungkook, then V, and Jimin was the last to join. So some of them trained longer than others and some knew each other longer than others, especially RM and suga.

Blue Cat Tae and jimin actually met when they were trainees in may 2012. They had explained it in an interview that they first met at the dorms when jimin moved in and the next day they went to school together and jimin was new to the school since he had transferred. So they did go to highschool together but they met as trainees first... meaning that they did not know each other before joining bighit. They met because of bighit and then they went to school together.
