In the arcade version of Punch Out the player character is a green wireframe. They couldn't replicate that in the NES/Famicom so they just made Mac short.
i love finding those little tells in the game. my favorite is in order to punch bald bull during his charge attack, you look for a guy in the stands to take a picture
Fun fact: Mr Dream isn't just a white version of Mike Tyson. He is based on Rocky Marciano, the world heavyweight champion between 1952 and 1956, and the only heavyweight champion to be undefeated throughout his career.
You could be coming into the fight with Dream completely undefeated with a record of 13-0 all of your wins by way of knock out, and if he beats you by decision (even if you kick his ass and by rights should be the one awarded the fight) your career is instantly over. This is truly unique in of itself as it doesn’t happen with any other opponent.
Also, it’s rather strange that when you are getting the better of Dream the rounds seem to fly by at a quick pace and it’s instantly the period between rounds with you seemingly never having enough time to put Dream away. However, it’s the opposite and rounds seem to drag on forever when Dream is beating on you and you are struggling not to get put away before the end of the round. It’s like this with a few other opponents, but it seems to be more noticeable in the fight with Dream.
I don’t like that part…. But, now you can “save” and get right back to work. I have fights saved with Mr. Sandman, Macho Man and Dream. After losing a handful of times against Mr. dream I’ll occasionally go back in try to refresh with fights against the other two I mentioned. Sandman is tough! Macho man I can sometimes be without getting touched… Anyway, this was the most impressive defeat of Mr. dream that I’ve ever seen! He made it look so easy
False. I've beaten Tyson/Dream before via split decision on rare occasion. Very 1st time 1st win I Game Genie'd the fight (for all fights) so I'd have stronger punches and better resistance, which helped not get knocked out by 1st round knock outs. Fight went to split decision, anyway, and vs Tyson I won it. Not sure how many times after I've beaten either straight TKO, KO without cheats or decision which there wasn't even a code for, a rare few times, though.....
To me, even though they are the same, it looks like Mr. Dream could be beaten in like 10 seconds unlike Mike Tyson where I'm actually scared to fight and also wondering what the hell that stunned face is
The way I beat him was an accident. I was having trouble with the flurry of punches, and couldn’t get past that. It turns out that if you time a gut punch well enough, before the flurry, you get a free ko.
Wow this man defeated the final boss and with only one hit taken and then five minutes this is amazing I can’t even get past Bald bull congratulations 👏 😃

yea, tyson's contract came up and nintendo decided not to renew it. from their perspective, tyson was looking to be on the downward slope of his career and they probably didn't feel the need to renew the contract. there are some rumors around that nintendo pulled tyson out of the game because of his court case in 1992 but the game was rebranded in 1991 so that wasn't a factor.

as a kid in the 80's- I loved this game! beating Tyson was easier than beating Super Macho Man (at least I thought so). Once the code was out - anyone could go to Tyson and fight him, so you got a lot of practice. You never really got to fight Super Macho Man as much, and his spin punch was tough!
You're crazy. I could beat macho man without ever getting knocked down. Tyson would kick my ass though. 767 307 3070 is burned into long term memory for me.
Super Macho Man was such a pain. Though what I figured out was that you were apparently supposed to dodge his super spin punch by dodging to the right, as he would always eventually hit me/knock me down if I kept going left for some reason.
Let me clear this up for some. When punch out got released for the NES the final boss was called Mr. Dream. Nintendo then made Mike Tyson's punch out, where they changed the final boss to Mike Tyson.
As I'm sure someone probably pointed out to you, you're wrong here. The arcade version was made first, with no dream or tyson. When the same team that made the arcade version was tasked with porting the arcade game to the NES, it was after the lead designer had already seen Tyson in action and was impressed by his raw power and skill, and he knew he wanted him as the final boss for his game. Two years after the successful release Tyson's contract ran out, and Nintendo didn't feel like renewing it because at this point Tyson had lost the title of Heavyweight champion in real life and was no longer seen as "the best." In fact, there is an even earlier version of Punch-out!! that was made for winners of the Gold U.S Course Famicom tournament, though this version of the game was sold later at retail despite being seen as an inferior or incomplete version as it boasts graphical and sound bugs that are not present in Either the Mike Tyson or Mr Dream versions. On that note, this version also lacks either boss, making the final fight Super Macho Man instead. A lackluster end to the game if you ask me.
Eh kinda. They released a version in Japan without a final fight after Sandman, it was exclusive to the Nintendo Magazine rewards program. They were working on their Mike version at the time and that later came out here, after contract ran out they just added Mr. Dream.
just takes practice. remember he will always throw his first punch 6 seconds into the fight and he pretty much maintains a consistent rhythm throughout the first 1:30. you can do it!
I think he's harder than Tyson only because noticing the flash to his knockout punches are very similar to his own skin. At least with Tyson you can easily distinguish the flashes.
i never thought about it that way. once i learned how to beat Tyson, i learned the rhythm in timing over actually trying to react to his body flashing. interesting idea!
It had nothing to do with Tyson's rape allegation, but rather when this game got re-released, Tyson lost his belt to Buster Douglas, which made Nintendo no longer interested in re-signing him to another contract. They remade this version in 1990, while the rape trial didn't happen until 91.
Everyone say hello to Mike Tyson if he got the same skin disease that Michael Jackson got and if he decided to replace his missing tooth. And you fooled none of us, The continue code is the exact same to get to Mike Tyson Edit: this is a joke

Correction it was totally tough
You're crazy. I could beat macho man without ever getting knocked down. Tyson would kick my ass though. 767 307 3070 is burned into long term memory for me.
Super Macho Man was such a pain. Though what I figured out was that you were apparently supposed to dodge his super spin punch by dodging to the right, as he would always eventually hit me/knock me down if I kept going left for some reason.
Whenever I try to hit his face immediately after he throws a punch as seen in the beginning he blocks me with his hands, what am I doing wrong?
Just got one of those retro sticks been playing all day
I didn't know Mr. Dream lives with Mr. Sandman
I wish Punch Out had a sequel where Mr. Dream returns
So, I guess they've took out Mike and put in Gus huh?
Let me clear this up for some. When punch out got released for the NES the final boss was called Mr. Dream. Nintendo then made Mike Tyson's punch out, where they changed the final boss to Mike Tyson.
mr. dream came after tyson. tyson was replaced due to contract issues with nintendo using his likeness.
Two years after the successful release Tyson's contract ran out, and Nintendo didn't feel like renewing it because at this point Tyson had lost the title of Heavyweight champion in real life and was no longer seen as "the best."
In fact, there is an even earlier version of Punch-out!! that was made for winners of the Gold U.S Course Famicom tournament, though this version of the game was sold later at retail despite being seen as an inferior or incomplete version as it boasts graphical and sound bugs that are not present in Either the Mike Tyson or Mr Dream versions.
Dream.
Why is it called Mike Tyson’s punch out if he’s not in the game anymore?!
EpicAntos this version of the game is simply called Punchout. It has a label with different cover art

He became a speedrunner after his loss.
So we got Mr. Dream, and then we got Dream.
I mean, Mr. Dream is fast, and so is Dream himself.
-Except Mr dream doesn't cheat-
Mr dream is a lighter version of Tyson and the face is changed plus in both games punch out and mike Tyson’s punch out the strategy is the same.
How come it looks so easy in the vid but for me it’s so hard?
just takes practice. remember he will always throw his first punch 6 seconds into the fight and he pretty much maintains a consistent rhythm throughout the first 1:30. you can do it!
GnarBlast you really think I can do it?
@@kingbopit9318 of course! if i can do it, trust me, anybody can! haha
GnarBlast I’ve tried many times and I’ve knocked him down twice! But a question about Mr. Dream how come when he falls down his feet look bigger?
I think he's harder than Tyson only because noticing the flash to his knockout punches are very similar to his own skin. At least with Tyson you can easily distinguish the flashes.
i never thought about it that way. once i learned how to beat Tyson, i learned the rhythm in timing over actually trying to react to his body flashing. interesting idea!
it's just white Mike Tyson
Mr dream
He is obviusly mr dream
Better looking, better teeth, better DNA, better religion, better record, not cowardly in fighting a very old George Foreman.
If I remember, you can beat him by decision if you get to at least 5000 Points.
The game play was real great memories
How come Mr. Dream’s feet look bigger when he falls down?
Mike tyson with another texture.
Where’s dreamland located? Since that’s where mr dream is from
Can someone explain why its Mr. Dream instead of Mike Tyson? I have always played against Tyson at the end. This is very different...
TalGames After the rape allegations against Mike Tyson, Nintendo changed it to Punch-Out, and changed the final fight.
It had nothing to do with Tyson's rape allegation, but rather when this game got re-released, Tyson lost his belt to Buster Douglas, which made Nintendo no longer interested in re-signing him to another contract. They remade this version in 1990, while the rape trial didn't happen until 91.
I swear to God,its unsetling how this guy fits in a mandella effect
GnarBlast if Mike Tyson and Mr. Dream were in a fight who would win?
Kingbopit Mike Tyson is harder.
7 Grand Dad really? How do you know?
since they are identical, i would say Double KO 6 seconds into the fight. haha
How do you dodge and get back into position so quickly to punch?
tap left to dodge then tap right to quickly come back to the center
99-0
From dreamland
Age ??
Weight 235
Wat.
Great job. Mike Tyson/Mr. Dream was a bastard to many a young gamer.
Pretty this guy has Mr. Sandman as is Right Hand Man.
who the hell is mr dream
zackington a Mike Tyson look alike who has a streak of 99 KO’s
Mr. Dream is based on real life boxer Rocky Marciano, who was undefeated during his career.
I think that Mr Dream looks like an early version of The Rock when he had that box-cut-like hairdo. With lighter skin tone. And no tattoos.
i thought he looked like a roided up cena when he was The Prototype or whatever that gimmick was. lol
Mr. Dream looks like John Cena! 😂😂😂
martian78 instead of mr dream it should be changed to a John Cena
They list his weight, but not his age.
This means despite showing up at the weigh-in, he likely doesn't have a boxing license.
It’ll be really nice of Nintendo to give us the Mike Tyson version to Nintendo Switch Online
Mr. Dream looks like Ken Shamrock...
Mr. Dream and his new trainer kirby?
Mr Dream is Glass Joe's legitimate son.
Everyone say hello to Mike Tyson if he got the same skin disease that Michael Jackson got and if he decided to replace his missing tooth. And you fooled none of us, The continue code is the exact same to get to Mike Tyson
Edit: this is a joke
