    Great intro to the game Das!
    A couple of points to any new players:
    1. Don't be put off by the fact the game is hardcoded into Ironman mode. You do NOT have to use the save-copying thing Das shows. You can make single player quite easy with a passive AI that doesn't attack until you declare war, so you can learn the game at your own pace. That said, it's great he's shown you how to do it, because it is extremely useful when learning how to do specific things (like practicing the outcome of battles). My advice would be to only start doing that once you're proficient with the game and you want to practice certain things, instead play the game on an easier mode for a bit and learn from your mistakes.
    Secondly, I don't quite agree that Ulm are only really played in one way, or that their magic isn't powerful. They certainly have a more limited range of magic and their paths don't go so deep as other Early Age nations, but the spells they do get access to are designed to work well with their incredibly dangerous units. They've got huge bonuses to magic item production, and coupled with buffing from their Earth magic users, you can make very strongly kitted commanders who can wipe out small armies with just a couple of spells and some cheap magic items. But Das is right, they're really good for learning the game because their national troops are incredibly strong, and learning to buff them with spells and make magic items is a great introduction to the game!
    Also with EA Ulm, don't miss their national undead troops that they can raise with their Death magic access. It's a great introduction to some of the hidden stuff each nation has that new players will undoubtedly miss

    Followup one of the best ways you can learn the game is to set the AI to defensive. They'll avoid declaring war on you for the first 30ish turns so you can pick your battles and fights as you feel comfortable taking them.

    Question for vets of the series: How well does this game hold up as a singleplayer experience? I've enjoyed their other game, Conquest of Elysium 5, quite a bit solo. I ask because anytime I read comments positive reviews on the series, majority of those comments are related to multiplayer and how wonderful of a multiplayer experience it can be. I'm mostly looking for a new singleplayer strategy game and I've had my eye on this series for a long time. Comments appreciated!
    P.S. DasTactic really does amazing videos, really looking forward to following this series!

      The community tends to be pretty critical of Dominions Single Player, and some of those criticisms are legitimate. That said though it is better than it tends to get credit for. A lot of it comes down to the fact that there are aspects of the game, particularly around scripting, army composition and synergistic strategies that no AI on the planet could do. Dominions AI is good, but if you approach it like an MP game where you tune your pretender like a racecar and spend 20 minutes scripting your mages to pointbuff thugs that you tailored to counter exactly what you are fighting while executing a simultaneous magic phase raiding attack across two thirds of your opponent's territory then of course the AI will struggle.
      I'm not in the Dom 6 beta, but from what I have seen Illwinter has added a great deal of support for a better single player experience. You can do diplomacy with the AI now, customize AI pretenders (they used to be odd random grab bags) and by most accounts the AI has improved significantly when it comes to scripting, spellcasting and other aspects of the game that it has traditionally struggled with. If you are looking for an exclusively single player experience then I might suggest giving it a wait for a little while after release and see what the community thinks. I know that a RUclipsr named Battlemode has uploaded a few Single Player Dom 5 games to his channel and I would be amazed if he didn't do the same thing with 6.

      @@jeffreyhall3625 I had about 100 hours of singleplayer fun in Dominions 4 before going into multiplayer myself. Some of my friends who joined in 5 stayed with singleplayer and still play it from time to time.
      Also, Dominions 6 is adding new features to enhance singleplayer, like being able to make peace with the AI nations if you choose instead of having them go to war with you forever, among other adjustments.
      I'd say that if you enjoyed Conquest of Elysium you'll have fun with Dominions in single player.

    I've never tried any mods so I don't know what they can do but ask just in case. Is there a mod for dominions that make battles look like conquest of Elysium? I am only talking about representing the battle itself and not mechanics of it. Somehow I can't get into this game because of those 3d battles that are ugly but more importantly less informative. Game is good but I just can't stand that battles for some reason.

      -New magic spells, new school of magic glamour based off of illusions and jazz
      -Larger scale battles
      -New planes of existence adds more unique map layers (underground, underworld, void, etc.)
      -Mount system with equipment customization
      -A.I. diplomacy

      It's an iterative sequel, not a transformative sequel. There's a number of significant additions that change how the game is played, but it will be very recognizable if you've played earlier games in the series. For what it's worth, it's a bigger difference between 5 and 6 than there was between 4 and 5. In addition to the changes outlined above by mguy, the UI is improved including some useful quality of life features which will be very nice to be able to work with.
      It's up to you if it's worth buying the new version for those changes though.

      @Toshiro_Mifune 9 месяцев назад +15

      depends on the time you have on your hands, you learn both ways since eventually you remedy your failure. not everyone can sink thousands of hours on games, a lot of people want to taste everything in one playthrough.
      ironman saves are more fun though for sure.

    • @ares106
      @ares106 9 месяцев назад +6

      @@Toshiro_Mifune I think that also depends on whether you consider losing the game a waste of time. Personally I enjoy playing an almost hopeless game about as much as a game where I’m winning, if not more because I often get bored of steamrolling over the AI.
      Being in a weaker position because of my mistakes but also having some hope of recovery is the sweet spot for me. Once I figure out the game too much it becomes very trivial.

    I disagree 100%...You can very badly screw up equipable characters or lose the game in a few turns by moving your god unit to the wrong place....and you will have no idea why your giant wolf/snake/sexy goddess got dumpstered and your mages fell over after 2 turns of combat. Dont let this guy fool you if youre thinking of buying, the learning curve is kinda steep and some research does pay off in terms of level of frustration.
