Thanks again to Geoff Johns and Jason Fabok for discussing Rook Exodus with me! Check Out Rook Exodus ghostmachinepro.com/staging/2951/series/rook-exodus/
Interviewing Geoff Johns and Jason Fabok, I’m so proud and happy for of you Sasha, you’re becoming such a big comic book RUclipsr and you deserve all this wonderful success
Johns always does great interviews. They discuss story so fluently and intelligently but with a great understanding of emotion. I love they use the host's name showing that they care and listen.
The british fantasy writer Diana Wynne Jones, who wrote the book Howl's Moving Castle was based on, put out a collection of her speeches and articles shortly before she died outlining her views on fantasy and writing. It's interesting to hear Geoff and Jason talk from different perspectives about their work, going between how they probably pitch to publishers vs fans to what genuinely fascinates them about what they're doing. The interesting points of overlap between this UK children's author and what the Rook team are saying are the idea of how stories take their own life, and also that feelings and ideas that we have as children have a lot in common with what makes fantasy in general tick. I definitely took notice when Geoff took it back to how people, as adults and especially as kids, have a favourite animal. It's also interesting to see the angle Jason attacks it at versus Geoff.
ONE OF THE DOPEST COMICS I HAVE EVER READ! I have re read this story many times so far... The art work is top notch, like the story, and it has many great visual story telling visual (no words) strategies I have been telling people around me about... 13:20 J. Fabok - "it's a lot of work" - but this story will be read far into the future so it'll be worth it, and l'm sure I'm speaking for many, when I say thank you for coming up with this story....
Thank you all for this conversation. Rook has reignited my interest in weekly comics. I’ve started to try the other Ghost Machine books, but R:E is by far my favourite.
That's so crazy you got to interview them! I was wondering who it'd be, and wow that's huge! In the past, I've listened to some Geoff Johns interviews for Ghost Machine, and those were basically promotional interviews, while this one I think is unique because Geoff and Jason talked about the creative process. I can definitely hear/feel all the hard work they've poured into this world from the sound of their voice and their expressions lol. Fight/Flight, enviornmentalism, character driven story, worldbuilding, architecure, etc.-- really makes you appreciative of comics, I guess we take high quality comics for granted. I've been planning on picking Rook up in the trades, but honestly, I feel like I'll have to check out some of the issues now. Tongue in cheek, it sounds like Rook is a sci-fi story about Furries, where just their fursuits allow them to actually communicate with animals LOL.
The team should hire, and I understand it might not work like that in creator-owned indie, but the team should look out to hire a certain type of person to be in charge of another series expanding The Ghost Machine. An EDITOR from the manga industry. The publishing structure is different there and you don't want to actually go after the artist, like so many are making attempts at like Peach Momoko, to bring comics and manga closer together. The magic formula happens when artists can rely on their editor, to be a strong creative voice. I really think now would be a good time to bring series like Chainsaw Man, jojo's bizarre adventure or Dorohedoro to the western market, and that could happen through Ghost Machine, as much as any other imprint. But you need that EDITOR skillset if you want to create "western manga", not an artist. The poachable skill is understanding the HR how you get the author and assistants to work the Japanese way. The artist can be from any culture. I would say a big progenitor of Manga is already Hector Oesterheld and Hugo Pratt, through their artistic inspiration of Osamu Tezuka. If a Japanese editor could work with Genndy Tartakovsky for black-and-white series with assistants doing background detail, that would be ideal in my book.
These are the guys who brought me back into DC big time and I've followed them right over to this project. Nice to see them in a live chatting environment talking creativity and storytelling.
Not just a very interesting, intriguing video, but you are rocking my favorite hair style! Sorry I can't contribute more, but keep the videos coming, pal o' mine.
Great interview! I’m really loving Rook. I’ve always loved nature, hiking, etc. My dad and I would go on walks as a kid and he would teach me different animal tracks, etc. So I’m really connecting to this series. I’m also really glad I’m able to read it to my kids as well.
Awesome interview! Geoff is my favorite comic writer and these two are the team extreme in comics today. You did a great job and this was an incredible entertaining watch - well done!
Hey Sasha, this was really cool. Thanks for doing this! I have really been enjoying the books coming out of Ghost Machine and it was really awesome to have you spotlight Rook: Exodus with this interview. A lot of interesting insights that have me even more excited to see where it goes next. Well done!!
I look forward to reading it. On the day before my wedding my car was filled with crows the hood to the trunk. I looked around and no other car had them. I took it as a good sign 😅
I love everything about this video. Creators who want to find their own unique voices and reach readers and a beloved RUclipsr whose pure love of comics touches us all.its a perfect match. You don't find sincerity like this much anymore. I wish all of you and especially Sasha, much success! I bought this whole line per your recommendation. I guess its time for me to start reading!
The crazy thing is, I find that The Rook by Steven Grant more reminds me of Redcoat than of Rook. Still more variety than anime series that start with 'Tensei'. There's like six that are more identical than Sonic The Hedgehog and Adventures of Sonic the Hedgehog.
This is awesome that you did this interview, Sasha (this is my favorite book right now)!....just halfway through the interview but that is a surprise that this is a 6-issue arc...I thought this was a 5-issue arc due to lack of issue 6 in solicitations and the rumor mill. And that is cool to hear that there will be a spin-off next year....I'm think this will be a Dire Wolf story. Will listen to the rest on my drive home right now. Keep up the attention on Rook as this is a special book!
Ghost Machine is so much fun. I hav'nt read comics that made me feel like a kid again in forever. The two big ones are Junkyard Joe (which feels like an classic 80's Sci Fi Spielburg kid's movie in the best possible ways) and Gieger (whitch is an absolute dynamite post apocolyptic hero story). Red Coat and Rook are also an absolute joy to read. The only thing I dislike about Ghost Machine is I want more and I want it now! (But in all seriousness, please don't rush).
Sasha, thanks for getting "What Does the Fox Say" stuck in my head, lol! Just kidding. Great interview! I'm enjoying Rook Exodus, and it's nice to hear the creators explain their purpose and process. I also enjoyed the discussion Geoff began about audience interpretation, followed by Jason and his reactions to your video. Interesting stuff. I appreciate the edits you made with the comic page inserts and going full screen for the person speaking. Sometimes I get distracted by the non-speakers taking a drink or looking at something off-camera or whatever, so those things help my focus. Well done!

I’m a older reader and I really enjoy Rook Exodus! It’s world building from the ground floor on up! Geoff and Jason have done some stellar work over the past few years at DC,I just reread JLA/Darkseid War, and Doomsday Clock with Gary Frank with unfortunately a lot of missed opportunities in my opinion! At my LCS I’ve recommended Geiger,Junkyard Joe to anyone who will listen! Ghost Machine is off to a great start and I can’t wait to see what next! Great interview ,Sasha! You have an excellent perspective on comics!🎯⚡️👍👋
I love rhis duo but i wasnt hearing great things about jeremy adams green lantern that was part of the justice society thing geoff was doing I love doomsday clock
I was wondering if there are plans for Wardens representing/controlling non animal organisms, because they say many organisms communicate with other organisms of their kind, and plants speak to each other with a known fact that trees (own species and other species) have what is a paralel to family leaders (father and mother trees) and to have Wardens being able to understand non animal organisms as they speak to each other, and maybe even speak to them, themselves would be cool. they may even have another world they sit in and could be explored..... They may be able to also tap into organisms that keep memories (father mother trees - huge fungi) and so Wardens could tap into history of the areas also.
I can appreciate that. I've detailed it when we discussed Rook Exodus and also Junkyard Joe, but the cliffnotes is Ghost Machine the company has 4 universes. The largest is the Unnamed Universe which Geiger, Junkyard Joe and Red Coat are part of. Rook Exodus is one of the others.
Can anyone recommend some novels that are similar to the Fantastic Four, in the sense that it blends elements and themes of family, action/adventure, exploration, and sci-fi together? Please recommend novels/books not comic books or graphic novels.

Thank you kindly, I thought they both had very insightful things to say :)

I am crazy jealous. Huge Geoff Johns fan. Loved Stargirl and JSA

And with this, Sasha has just made her first crack into the level of ComicPop! Super good job, Sasha!

New subscriber here. Heard you were interviewing Johns and Fabok and it did not disappoint. 2 of my favorite creators.
More library editions the same as Gieger and Junkyard Joe from Ghost machine please.
Superb guests! These two are creating my favorite series that's hitting shelves. I don't want it to ever end.

Sasha with the Rook Exodus SCOOP!
Great interview, Sasha. This conversation with the creators really makes me want to check this title out.
OMG I am so proud of you!!
This interview was so nice. I really liked it and I hope you do more in the future.
great video I did not see that many people talking about this comic and im loving it.

Very groovy stuff, Sasha. You did a nice job interviewing and moderating. 👍
After getting back into comics after almost 2 years, this is in my top 3 favorite titles right now. Such a great interview

GREAT INTERVIEW
glad to hear there is a Rook-adjacent spinoff coming next year
Me too! Also, the phrasing Rook adjacent makes me think about chess.

People with pig heads are great - Rook, Demon Slayer. Lota of fun.
Wow unexpected, congrats
The comic looks great!
Awesome conversation Sasha! I hope your whims take you to other creatives in the future! (Jeremy Adams always seems down to talk some GL...)
Wow this is awesome
this was a great interview- but we.... MORE! 😃
Rook is the best book in the line. Definitely a recommend.
Yeah, this book is really fun. It's a great world to get lost in. Hoping for a rhino warden.
Woah! Too cool!!!
For a very brief moment, I thought they were going to bring up "Cadillacs & Dinosaurs", and I was going to have a '90s nostalgic geek-out.
Watching from Detroit.

The missed opportunity from doomsday clock is because of Geoff Johns not dc
Was this week a specifically designated Johns/Fabok wig?
Lol no I was just vibing with it.

What’s gonna happen when the best Aquaman writer in years writes the Shark Avatar in Rook Exodus? So excited for some deep sea horror!

She quoted as no one ever could quote before... Let me find some quotes
What's YOUR favorite animal?
Mine is armadillo!
These days, a cat or a fox. I'm basic, lol.
@@CasuallyComics let's get a thread of everyone's favorite animals!
Binturong.
I'm pretty sure there's one in Comet in Moominland.
