It's different for every plant. The most important thing is to watch how the plant is growing and it will tell you what it needs. I usually fertilize once a week to once a month, just depends.
Is this fertilizer ok to be used on hydrangeas if so how often how much do I use will it make the flowers 🌸 bloom and not just the leaves get big. Thanks Mike with your help!
Yes, you can use it on hydrangeas and yes they will bloom with it. I base the use on how the plant looks and there is no exact time for how often I use it.
Want to plant 30 Thjua Green giants in my yard. When should i plant them? Spring? Don't want to order till it's time. They won't be very big. Can i just plant them in ground, straight from box?
Yes, spring is the best time. That way they have all summer to get established, and yes, you can plant them in the ground immediately as long as they're protected from foot traffic, lawnmowers, animals walking through, etc.
Mike, every time I've used Miracle Grow, it has killed my plants despite my following the directions. But yours are so beautiful. And actually, I just threw my MG away after 20 years, then I found your video!! Ugh......I'll try again, and hopefully they will be amazing like yours. Thanks for the videos!!
I only use 1/4 teaspoon per gallon of water and then watch how the plant responds. There is nothing wrong with miracle gro. It's just a fertilizer, but you don't want to overuse it or it will kill plants just like any other fertilizer. You've got this, Sandy, I believe in you! Now go dig it out of the trash, haha.

I'd love to get into bees. A few years back I spent a ton of time researching them and decided that I really liked the top bar hive setup. I came close to collecting a wild swarm once but someone else got to it first. I need to get over to your place and see what you've got going on over there. I'm sure I could learn a ton from you, Nate.
Nate are you situated in Western Washington? I am reading a book on horizontal hives and am interested in seeing someone's setup. How do top bars differ from horizontals , or is it just two names for the same thing?
The pothos grew up the tree when I was young and when my children were about 7, 6, and 5yrs old they would scale the tree and intertwine the pothos and swing like Tarzan from 15- 20ft up to the other branches. This was in Homestead, Fl back in the early 80's. Thanks for bringing back a fond memory.
Right now I have miracle grow bloom booster and fish emulsion and Epson salt. Can I add those together for my houseplants, if I go half strength on the different fertilizers? I love and look forward to watching all your videos and at times I watch them more then once, like I did today.🤗

Hey, Anna, welcome to the family and thanks for hanging out here on the channel with us. As far as the tomatoes go, you can use the same fertilizer and they'll do great. Growing them outdoors in the garden is definitely going to produce better fruit but if you're overwintering them in the house then this fertilizer will do fine. I try to keep the fertilizer as organic as possible when growing things I'm going to eat so the urine and wood ash is the way to go!
@@MikeKincaid79 I'm new here. Urine & wood ash?? Will I find another video about the advantages of this combination? Love the videos I've see so far. Started by watching Shellie's chicken videos! Great stuff, both of you!

I just did 3 Ross cuttings this morning and used I think I did it right. Even saved my soda bottles. How long do I wait to fertilize them? Once again! Thank you! Love your show! I wanna try petunias next!
Don't fertilize until they've fully rooted. You'll have to experiment with the fertilizer. I apply it based on how the plants look and they all have different requirements. The faster the new growth, the more fertilizer they'll need.
@@MikeKincaid79 Hi Mike I’ve never added anything to my plans other than miracle grow so I’m going to try your mixture recipe but how much should I add to my plants and how often?

Hi Mike, You have sparked our excitement for plant care. For the life of me I can’t seem to find the Mother Plant product here in Toronto, Canada:( is there an alternative that you would recommend?
I've been hearing this from Canadians. Not sure why it's not available there. I don't have an alternative at this time but plan to create a more universal fertilizer.
Thank for the reply Mike. That would be amazing. In the meantime if any of your subscribers/community have found something that works in place of Mother Plant I would love the help:)))
Hi Mike, I have been able to find the miracle gro but here in South Africa Mother Plant is not made. Can you send me the makeup of Mother Plant so I can look for an equivalent here. Thank you for really great videos. Carry on I have learnt a tremendous amount. Regards Lionel South Africa
Hi mike; I'm a newby trying out my green thumb and know nothing about fertilizers or how often to water...but I'm trying! I am enjoying your videos!! 👍my question is: how often do you water and fertilize? everyday? every other day??
Depends on the plant but I use the fertilizer once a week to once a month. When the plant looks too green then back off for awhile, if it yellows then pick up on fertilizing.
That’s a great video, Mike. Thank you so much for posting it. I’ve got a question. Why did you not add some human urine to the mixture? All I can figure is that one of the ingredients must be doing the same thing that you’re in would do. I just want to go on the record as saying that I love Miracle-Gro and what it does to my plants. The other thing I need to add is about “roughing up” your plants. Gosh, that sounds like abuse. The only time I “rough up” a plant iis when I pull it out of the pot and the roots are going in circles all around the root ball. Even then I don’t rough it up. I use a very sharp X-Acto knife and just make vertical cuts in straight lives down the root ball about every 3 inches. That’s all they need. Keep up the good work, and stay healthy everyone
Great video! I'll have to try it on my houseplants! It's probably about time to fertilize them Those petunias look great! All those houseplants look great!
I have a poinsettia in my kitchen window it has been there 2 years I only give it water and a little dawn dish soap . It is blooming like crazy. I have used dawn dish soap on many of my plants. They all do wonderful with it . Why? Have no idea but give it a try you will be surprised.
Love your videos, and I'm close by in Olympia. I've looked for the NPK values for the Mother Plant fertilizer you used and can't find it. Does it say anywhere on the bottles?
I bought mine at Hefty Harvest. There’s one across the freeway from Albertson’s in Tumwater. There’s another over near Cabelas in Hawks Prairie. Google it on a map and you should find it
Do you have any videos on how to look at a plant and decide if it needs to be fertilized or not? I’ve seen you say you decide how often/when to fertilize based on looks.
It’s mostly based on the color of the leaves and how vigorously it’s growing. If the leaves start looking light green and growth slows way down then I fertilize. Petunias grow so fast that I usually fertilize weekly or even a couple times a week for awhile and then back off for a couple waterings if they look too deep green.
Mike, we know we have to have the N-P-K and of course the epsom salts, the thing is! how to determine what ratio? you'll see (for the same type of plants) 5-5-5, 15-6-8, 10-10-10, ? is it just more of one and less of the other? i think this is where everyone gets confused. and i really don't think Miracle Grow is a bad thing, the plant just wants N-P-K ! the problem is the salts! they accumulate in the soil and that is a bad thing. as always Mike, great vid.
I probably should have said that I don't water with it every time. Usually every other or sometimes 3rd or even 4th watering. I adjust according to how the plant looks.
So, it’s like you’re a #PlantChef 👨🍳. If we mix-up enough fertilizer, it’ll not only last longer it’s less expensive.Oh a bit of Organic Chem. trivia. #Potassium should be P” for #Potash on Periodic Table. K+ comes from Potash. But it’s actually named for #Kalium...Old Latin stuff. Speaking of stuff...your fertilizer’s REALLY GOOD STUFF.
Mike, I love your common sense approach and cutting through the chafe. My style entirely. On your fertilizer test, it would be interesting to see what Miracle Grow and Epsom salt combo did in a comparison. That's what I am using now with excellent results. As long as the ingredients of Mothers is not searchable for research I'll stick with MirGrow and Epsom.

Thank you! Mulțumesc pentru rețeta!
Cu plăcere!
Hi MIke! Love, love your channel! I was reading but didn't see, if anyone asked how much of the fertilizer to use on outside plants? How often, once a week, once a month? Also would your answer be applied, for both in ground plants vs potted plants? Keep up the great job you do! God bless you and your family!
I only use this for houseplants. My outside plants get a slow release fertilizer. I have a video about it if you search the channel. So glad you enjoy the videos!
@@MikeKincaid79 ???
hi from Arizona growing zone 9b. thanks for this video and the tips!
Yeah, no problem! I'll go check out your channel. Growing any figs?
@@MikeKincaid79 we have two fig trees for now, but we definitely want to get a lot more, we can get them online but they're just not shipping anything at this time.
Hi Mike, can you tell me how often you water and feed plants by this fertilizer? This is my first time I just going to start doing this, I really have no experience with houseplants and I am very interesting learning how. I love your video, it is awesome. Thanks.
@@MikeKincaid79 Awesome. Thanks for replying. Enjoy your channel. 👊
Potassium is Kalium in Latin. Hence the K ! You probably know this already !!
Thanks for showing your amazing fertilizer mix. I really need for my plants.
My pleasure 😊
I was waiting for a little Urine boost lol it really works I tryed it on my outdoor plants it’s getting close to honey bee season look up top bar hives I want to help you get bees for free you will be hooked
Wow thank you so much 💗. Love love the video.
That’s not HOMEMADE. Store bought... yes!
I want to make the fertilizer.
HI MIKE ,I LOVE the video where can you get the Mother Plant fertilizer?🇨🇦
you can find it on amazon
a lot of people slip pot plants. Left a like.
Glad to bring back good memories, Clara! Wow, those sound like amazing and huge pothos vines! I'd love to see something like that one day.
Right now I have miracle grow bloom booster and fish emulsion and Epson salt. Can I add those together for my houseplants, if I go half strength on the different fertilizers? I love and look forward to watching all your videos and at times I watch them more then once, like I did today.🤗
Thanks for your support, Donna! Sounds like a great mix to me. I'm going to experiment with different mixes next winter because so many people are having a hard time finding the Mother Plant.
@@MikeKincaid79 Thank you so much for the information you provided. Looking forward to watching your future videos, I've learned so much from your videos. 🙋
Mike i just found your channel and love it i have been trying to find a home made fertilizer forever, i have used everything to even putting fish under my plants, using cow manure, etc nothing ever worked, im going to try this soon for my indoor plants, i have tried to grow tomatoes and my friend wont tell me his secret the thing he told me he uses is black soil not from the store and the little beads in a bottle from walmarts, i cant remember the name, right off, but so thankful you shared your recipe it makes sense what you use and definitely gone to try it, also my friend has so many tomatoes it is unreal, he can take plants that almost dead and they grow wild beautiful, do you have a recipe for tomatoes or can i use the recipe you submitted, i really want to know, i hope you write me back, i would appreciate it, i never had a response from anyone on you tube, but i see on here that you do respond that really caught my attention thank you so much for taking the time to do that, and i also want to use the pee one, i burn wood so i believe that is the ashes you are referring too,,,,thanks so much,,, anna
I've become addicted to your show. But I have a REALLY brown thumb. How much of that gallon fertilizer goes on each plant? How often do I use it?
I just did 3 Ross cuttings this morning and used I think I did it right. Even saved my soda bottles. How long do I wait to fertilize them?
Once again! Thank you! Love your show!
I wanna try petunias next!
Don't fertilize until they've fully rooted. You'll have to experiment with the fertilizer. I apply it based on how the plants look and they all have different requirements. The faster the new growth, the more fertilizer they'll need.
I made my own mixture too
14-14-14 NPK + Epsom Salt + Calcium Nitrate
Sounds good, let me know how it works.
@@MikeKincaid79 Hi Mike I’ve never added anything to my plans other than miracle grow so I’m going to try your mixture recipe but how much should I add to my plants and how often?
Just subscribed, got everything I need on Amazon, can't wait to make Mike's Mix 😉
Great stuff! Have fun.
@@MikeKincaid79 hi Mike if you can't get mother plant for any reason what can be used in place of it. Thank you!!
Great tips 👏🧑🌾😌 thank you
You are so welcome!
I use Epsom salt for all my indoor and outdoor plants too. I have done it for years and will continue to :) Thanks for sharing your mix. Happy Growing.
I like the sound of your homemade fertilizer and I am going to try it. Thank You.
You're welcome, Betty!
Where do you get “ mother plant” or nitrogen?
Love the video...plant's look stunning im going to try your " magic mix "
It's great stuff
Since starting up my favorite hobby again last year, I’m your biggest fan! I’ve learned so much …this mix is good for outdoor potted plants too I presume?
Awe, thanks Kristine! Yes, this will work for any plants.
I'm gonna try your mix. Thanks.
It's been a good one for me.
How often do you fertilize?
Do you have to mix this recipe with more water? Or straight from the gallon jug?
Straight from the jug. The frequency depends on the plant. I’ll do a video about it.
Great video! Thanks!! Do you use this on outdoor potted plants too, or something else?
Outdoor potted plants get slow release fertilizer. Here's a video about it: ruclips.net/video/F5BRZwFEe50/видео.html
@MikeKincaid79 thanks so much!!
I am going to make some Mike's mix definitely!
Awesome! Have fun with it, Betty.
I will sure try your formula you plants looks great
It works well.
It is good that you showed up
I always show up to the party!
I like that idea, and the flowers
Thanks, Neta!
Thank you great video! Helpful information. The plants are beautiful.
You are so welcome! Glad you enjoyed it.
Wonderful video. Do you use this same mix with outdoor plants?
No, my outdoor plants get a slow release commercial fertilizer. ruclips.net/video/F5BRZwFEe50/видео.html
Hello again Mike, is there any brand to replace the mother plant fertilizer? Because I don’t find same you have!! Please help!! Thanks again
I don't have a good answer to that yet but when I find it, I'll let you know.
In the meantime if any of your subscribers/community have found something that works in place of Mother Plant I would love the help:)))
awesome video! can this be used on outdoor flowers like zinnia, gazania, alyssum, etc?
Yes, but once I get outside I start using slow release fertilizers.
@@MikeKincaid79 sounds good, any brands of slow-release you’d recommend?
Love your videos Mike. Do I use this fertilizer every time I water? If not how often.
Thank you
It really depends on the plant and how it looks. I fertilized the petunias once a week but the croton can go once a month.
Hi Mike, I have been able to find the miracle gro but here in South Africa Mother Plant is not made. Can you send me the makeup of Mother Plant so I can look for an equivalent here.
Thank you for really great videos. Carry on I have learnt a tremendous amount.
Regards
Lionel South Africa
I've heard from many people that they can't find the Mother Plant fertilizer. I'll be working on a solution for you.
Don't want any urine smell in the house, lol. I only use that outside in the gardens.
Ahhhhhh, I forgot you were doing indoor plants. I’m such an outdoor plant guy but I wasn’t thinking
Great video! I'll have to try it on my houseplants! It's probably about time to fertilize them
Those petunias look great! All those houseplants look great!
Thanks, Jacob, I love these plants and they really do respond well to this little formula. Enjoy your evening!
@@MikeKincaid79 you too!!
I have a poinsettia in my kitchen window it has been there 2 years I only give it water and a little dawn dish soap . It is blooming like crazy. I have used dawn dish soap on many of my plants. They all do wonderful with it . Why? Have no idea but give it a try you will be surprised.
It'll definitely kill the mites, aphids, and fungus gnats. Maybe that's the secret!
@@MikeKincaid79 Thank you!!
Vere nice
just beautiful mike you really know what to do
Thanks, Vivian, I love my plants!
I love this. Will this work for my outdoor hanging plants too???
Yes, absolutely
Love your videos man. Weather in Florida is crazy its middle of winter and i have citrus trees blooming. This is not good.
Wow! That sounds crazy. Of course, I'm up here in Washington State where it's ranging from 20 to 50 degrees, lol.
It keeps changing from 30s to 60 makes no sense. Its making fruit trees think its spring time.
That's a bummer. Always makes me nervous when that happens in the spring because I worry about rhododendron buds freezing.
I don’t have house plants but I do have outdoor container petunias so this recipe would work for them?
Yes it would
Thank you!
Hey Mike, I want to try this mix of nutrients.....can I use Jack's Classic 20-20-20 instead of the Miracle Grow? Thanks!
I've never tried it but I'm sure it would work well. Probably get tons of blooms with that ratio.
Mike, if I want to use your homemade fertilizer outside in my flower and vegetable garden, what would the ratio of each be?
I don’t use this outdoors on food crops. For that I use wood ash and urine.
A video on how to make compost from kitchen scraps and stuff around yard?
So, it’s like you’re a #PlantChef 👨🍳.
If we mix-up enough fertilizer, it’ll not only last longer it’s less expensive.Oh a bit of Organic Chem. trivia. #Potassium should be P” for #Potash on Periodic Table. K+ comes from Potash. But it’s actually named for #Kalium...Old Latin stuff.
Speaking of stuff...your fertilizer’s REALLY GOOD STUFF.
Mike is this fertilizer good for outdoor plants too? What about garden plants?
I use a commercial sustained release fertilizer for all my outdoor landscape plants. My vegetable garden plants get urine and wood ash.
Mike can I use this fertilizer on my outdoor petunia and flowering plants
You can but it's much easier to use a slow release fertilizer for outdoor plants. Then all you have to do is water.
Thank you for the video! Can I use this combination for plants outside?
Yes you can but it will get really expensive. I recommend a slow release fertilizer for outdoor plants.
@@MikeKincaid79 hi mike can I substitute mother plant a&b with fertilizer.lime root stimulator & plant starter solution?
Mike, I love your common sense approach and cutting through the chafe. My style entirely. On your fertilizer test, it would be interesting to see what Miracle Grow and Epsom salt combo did in a comparison. That's what I am using now with excellent results. As long as the ingredients of Mothers is not searchable for research I'll stick with MirGrow and Epsom.
Thanks, Aaron! I'd love to do that experiment. I could do Miracle Grow and Epsom sale together vs. just Miracle Grow and just Epsom salt.

Your awesome I am so happy to find your channel . Is this fertilizer is good for all indoor plants
Yes, I use it for everything
Mike I love your videos, and I also love petunias. I live in nothwestern Ontario and I plant several pots of pink madness every spring at my cottage. We all enjoy there beauty well into the fall. Do you have any suggestion for the outdoor version or would your indoor version fertilizer be good for my pots. I love miracle grow ultra bloom pellets and they seem to work great, especially I don't make it out to feed them. Thanks so much for the valuable information 😊
I would definitely recommend doing the sustained release pellets outdoors, and that's all I use on outdoor plants. It would be too time consuming and costly to hand mix for all my outdoor plants. You're doing the right thing!
HI Mike, how do i apply the fertilizer and what quantity. I am new to gardening. I am very inspired to create a beautiful garden. I live in New Zealand and the climate is opposite to your weather.
I just make up a gallon at a time and water the plants when the soil starts to dry a little or the plants look like they need watering. If they start getting too deep green then I'll back of the fertilizer and use plain water for a couple waterings.
Love your videos and help.... but for those of us who can’t afford mother plant a&b do you have an alternate????
Working on it
