Just to let you know, I’m waiting on neck surgery. (Old army injury 13m) so I decided to go back and watch your old videos on net making. Been putting it off. Well after screwing up a few times I got about two foot done. Can’t do much else. But thanks. I just didn’t know if you knew how much you were helping people out.
You really should wear sun glasses when doing any solar ignition. As a welder I learned the hard way starting to learn solar. You can burn your eyes just like welding from the bright white light. If you have no glasses get it going and look away often and only look back quick to make sure you're still on target. Great video. Keep them coming.
Nice video Dave. Always to try to watch your tips and tricks to add to my knowledge. You are responsible for my renew interest in camping and bushcraft. Thank you sir. God bless you and yours
Great tip! Alot of people do not understand that you can start a fire many ways without a Bic or charred materials. I've found you can process down nettles and get them into an ember! There as so many ways to start a fire!
Yes, good way for fire. Now, I'm telling folks about nettle fiber. Grab a few stalks/plants, strip the outer fibers, hang in the sun/breeze to dry, couple hours. Roll, break down the fibers to fine state, takes 5 minutes or so. Now flint and steel or solar like this video shows. You will be surprised how good and easy it works. A great smoldering ember! Have a great day, Steve
Dave, I wish you would put your head together with Blackie Thomas and make a huge run of the BlackBird Haversack. Buying them online from The Pathfinder Store would be, for me, a much easier way to finally get my hands on one. Thx, jwc. (By the way, I've given several sets of your 64&128 bushpots along with plates and bowls for wedding gifts to young cousins. Since all are outdoor people, they like them very much.)
Hi Dave, greeting from Australia 🇦🇺 thank you for your time to make these videos. You can also update DRYED herbivores dung , try it, it works on Kangaroo dung in Australia. Let me know how it went.
Step one: make a photon torpedo out of dry heavily processed bramble material - a compressed ball shape will suffice. Step two: place photon torpedo inside hollowed out tinder bundle nest. Step three: align sun photons with photon torpedo (CAUTION: protect eyes utilizing dark tinted glasses.) Step Four: blow photon torpedo and tinder bundle into flame. (This government announcement is fully sanctioned by the United Federation of Planets.)
The tinder bundle itself, does not have the proper density to create an ember from the lens. You need the ball rolled up tight, very dense to create the ember, then that ember can be placed in the much less dense bundle, and blown to flame. If you had a bic lighter, or other flame source, yes, just light the bundle.

Nice but I find starting fire is easy teaching fire safety is the hard part…Have fun stay safe.
Why not just use the magnafacation lense to light the tinder bundle instead of the ball and save a step.

Seriously? If someone can't figure out how to do this, well.....
Thanks, Dave! 🥾🏔️
