“Bildungsroman” is German for “Educational Novel”. Well that’s what it means translated anyways. We actually use the Term ‘Coming of age Story’ here as well. Like not translated 😂. Also very excited for this Series.

I love Benjamin McEvoy - but I’m not a big Dickens fan 🤷🏻♀️ there’s just not enough intellectual meat in his stories for me to enjoy, and I think collating works which were originally serialised would benefit from editing, particularly if you decide not to read them following the original publication schedule.

He said in multiple videos that he personally hated dickens writing style but also he said that he thought that opinion is objectively wrong. (As in dickens books are objectively good he personally just doesn’t like them) Hope this helps :)
As someone who had to study Great Expectations for GCSE, I'd like to watch this out of curiosity, but the ptsd is too strong.😢 Who on God's earth thought it was a good idea to make us read a book where the author was paid by the chapter (59 in total) and force us to memorize it??? And make us read a bildungsroman where the main plot of the book is nothing happens. Literally nothing happens in this god damn book. There's maybe 4 mildly entertaining chapters. The rest is bs. For my speech, I did it on why we shouldn't be studying Great Expectations, and the next year, the school mysteriously changes to Dr Jekyl and Mr Hyde. Your welcome.
