On Saxophone, Sonny Rollins, a legendary jazz master. One of the greats.
Charlie's favorite jazz saxophonist!
@@davidburton9136 and Charlie could play jazz beautifully. I have his jazz CD. He did sooo much great work with the stones and rock music when you examine his recording history.
@@ed.z. There was only one Charlie. I stole some of his licks when I was a kid in a garage band.
@@davidburton9136 you, me and most drummers in this universe borrowed the icon drum fills of the impeccable Charlie Watts.
On IPad, me watching. One of the mediocres.
I've always loved this song, I'm not sure why. I think it's just the vibe, smooth and mellow.
With ya, just something about it. For a Stones song it is just so chill.
The guy sitting next to Jagger on the stoop was Peter Tosh, reggae singer who collabed with Mick on the song, "Walk and Don't Look Back." (BTW, you should react to that!) Tosh was in Bob Marley's band, The Wailers.
We are for ketchy ketchy shoobie shoobie doo now
Was thinking is that Peter tosh, the Stones and Tosh were big friends back then
@@airgunfun4248 Pass me a spliff, me bredren.
I didn't realize that - thanks for telling us. I loved listening to Peter Tosh when i was younger (80s) - now i'm embarrassed i didn't even realize that was him. Thanks again.
"Legalize it! Don't criticize it." Who are the other two guys on the Zeppelin porch? Or the blonde guy in the open bar? I always wondered?
This video was filmed on the steps of the same building on St Mark's Place in NYC that was featured on the cover of Led Zeppelin's Physical Graffiti. Keith told Jimmy it was his idea.
RIP Shirley Watts. With her Charlie again. Best wishes to the Stones family.
The building they're sitting in front of is the building that is the cover for Led Zeppelin's Physical Graffiti album.
The only Rolling Stones song my Father liked. R.I.P.
That building is the same one that is on the cover of Led Zeppelin's Physical Graffiti album.
Trudat
Never go wrong with the rolling stones. Since the mid sixties and still a top band for me.
@@jamesbuckingham357 there's always someone got to be an ass.
@@stanflahaut1893 Now, or back in 1981 when this was released?
Sonny Rollins played the tenor saxophone. He is one of the greatest living musicians in the world. He is considered one of the greatest improvisers, living or dead, in the history of jazz.
Yes. When Keith first caught wind of it, he didn't think there was any way Rollins would play on a stones record!
Sonny Rollins, Saxophone Colossus, still with us at 92
When this video first came out on MTV.... I watched this while I was tripping.... and thought it was Don Knotts singing.
Hilarious
Hilarious
Hysterical. Gave my smile for the day.👍
Thanks hilarious!!! I can see that
😁😂🤣
The Rolling Stones actually did that showing up at a bar with live bands and get on stage with them.
This is such a sweet, chill song by the Stones. Perfect for a lazy afternoon😊 Love the video and your reaction. Lex's comments continue to be priceless...thanks guys🧡
No, Lex is correct here, Brad!
Lyrics might help 😊:
Watching girls go passing by
It ain't the latest thing
I'm just standing in a doorway
I'm just trying to make some sense
Out of these girls passing by
The tales they tell of men
I'm not waiting on a lady
I'm just waiting on friend
A smile relieves a heart that grieves
Remember what I said
I'm not waiting on a lady
I'm just waiting on a friend
I'm just waiting on a friend
Don't need a whore, I don't need no booze
Don't need a virgin priest
But I need someone I can cry to
I need someone to protect
Making love and breaking hearts
It is a game for youth
But I'm not waiting on a lady
I'm just waiting on a friend
Brad & Lex, you’ll love their "Lets Spend The Night Together" !!!
Wonderfull song from The Stones!
And music-video is beautiful
This tune came out after Mick and Keith had had a real life spat and the Stones were for all intents broken up. This song signaled friendship was worth more than anything and with the release of "Tattoo You" the band was back in business. I always liked this simply for that and it's a good tune too. The Stones, the greatest rock band ever.
Mick and Keith had difficulties throughout the 80s which led to them splitting up after the Dirty Work album in 1986. Fortunately, they were able to patch things up a few years later.
Kind of. They needed a record and Keith and Mick were not getting along. They had leftover songs reworked by Keith on his own going back to 1972. After Keith was done Mick recorded all the vocals on his own in a different studio. The album was crap on side two. Side one had some cool songs most were not hits though. They made Undercover of the Night in 1983 and toured together for that album. They stalled out again until Steel Wheels and really since then have mostly been a live band playing their classic songs. With only Keith and Mick left they are on the edge of a tribute band to themselves. Losing Charlie kind of makes me not want to spend the money to see them.
@@StanSwan True.
@@StanSwan Charlie is the man!. And, as a bass player I miss Wyman
@@kramerbassplayer I usually try to separate artist from Art, but I just can't appreciate Wyman's work anymore after finding out about his marriage with that kid. He used to be so awesome too.
The Rolling Stones ---to some people they are considered THE greatest rock n roll band EVER.
That is up for debate.
They are legendary, literal living legends, still touring almost 60 years after their first recorded single. So much fantastic music.
The steps they are sitting on are in front of the building that is on the cover of Led Zeppelin's Physical Graffiti album... St. Marks Place in NYC
This was back before everyone had their cellphones with them, and you were often waiting around for someone.
I thought this song was a little soft and the band a little weird in the video the first several times I saw it back on MTV. Then, just like any other Stones hit it grew on me to the point where I just love it...and enjoy watching the band dynamic in the video as well.
It came out in '81, but Mick actually wrote in the early '70s. It's the last great song they released.
Great song to play on a jukebox at the pub when your waiting for a friend 🍺🍻🍺
Love that riff...
No matter the issues, it's always about bandmates and friends.
What would you give to see the Stones play in a little bar like that?!?!?!?
The cover and my pinkie finger down to the first knuckle.
$100.00 💵
That was shot in my favorite bar--the St. Marks Bar and Grill. I was there that day, and I asked the bartender who was a friend what all the film trucks were there for. He said that the Rolling Stones we making a video in the neighborhood. It seemed so incredibly impossible, so I finished my beer and walked home. If I had stuck around I would have been in the video.
I LOVE this song, in fact I sometimes play it just to get my energy up. Thanks for reacting.
Keith walks past my favorite bar in the world the international. Then he turns east on ST Marks place and meets Mic on the stairs of the same building that is on the cover of Led Zepplin physical graffiti. Best area in nyc in my opinion east village!
Great history behind this song.
It was recorded as part of the sessions for an earlier album (Goat's Head Soup), and Ron Wood (second guitarist shown in the video) wasn't with the band then; it was Mick Taylor.
The opening shot shows them in front of a building that was featured on the cover of the album "Physical Graffiti" by Led Zeppelin.
The Black gent sitting at the base of the stairs is the late Peter Tosh, formerly of the Wailers where he played with Bob Marley and others. He later recorded for Rolling Stones records. Sadly, he was murdered by thieves who broke into his house in Jamaica.
I thought those cool guys on the stairs must’ve been someone important 😊
The coolest band ever.
How can you not love this , its friends just loving hanging out and hes not waiting on his lady but hanging out with his friend and enjoying it , Love the dancing and fun feeling of this song of guys hanging out with each other
Keef and Mick saying hello to Peter Tosh on the stairs...cool.
My friends would get together when a new Stones album was released and sit and listen to it all night long and critique it and jam,.
• the greasy East Village stoop is 96-98 St. Mark's Place, just west of Tompkins Square Park, from the cover of Led Zeppelin's Physical Graffiti
• supposedly Peter Tosh is one of the brothers hangin’ out on the stoop
• sax by Sonny Rollins, who requested Jagger “dance” the solo for him
• basic tracks for this were cut during the Goats Head Soup sessions in late ’72 into ’73 in Jamaica (thus the breezy, bittersweet island feel), so that’s Mick Taylor on inaudible second guitar
• Nicky Hopkins on piano
The Rolling Stones "Fool To Cry"...Nuff Said.
Classic!
I love this song!!! It's such a vibe! Thank you for this reaction. ♥️
Ive been subbed here for a few years now. I subbed a few other reactors. You two are so genuine, so relaxed and easy with the camera. A genuine pleasure to spend a few minutes with, for a memory, and a smile. Im 61yo but the youngest of 5 siblings. I was trained by my brothers and sisters about music in the ‘60s. I was prolly 4or 5 years old jammin to The Stones singing “Off My Cloud” in ‘66. THIS is my favorite Stones track. And listen to that sax solo, one of the best EVER recorded! Can i hear an Amen?
Nice to be "just waiting on a friend" that you've been pals with since age 13---Mick Jagger & Keith Richards !!!!
Who remembers when Sonny would be playing on the street in NYC in the 60’s… he was already great but he needed to play…
1980 Rolling Stones song SHE'S SO COLD is FIRE and def worth a reaction
1980's NYC 😪
As a kid in the late 70s growing up there, it was such a gritty interesting city. So different than nowadays.
Have always loved this song. Last time I was in NYC, I had to go see the front porch where they filmed this video. It's on St. Marks in Greenwich.
Live version of Going To A Go-Go is another great Stones song. Awesome saxophone in it.
Y'all goin to a gogo.
Love it!
Ernie Watts on Sax on the live version. "Going To A Go-Go", in case some readers didn't know, is a song written and recorded by Smokey Robinson & The Miracles
@@johnconway9882 Thanks, never knew who did the sax on the live version. Great classic song. Probably my favorite cover song the stones do.
@@kolchak3578 👍👍
I had read somewhere that the man next to Mick, and eventually Keith, on the stoop is reggae singer Peter Tosh. Plus this doorway and building was also used on the album cover Physical Graffiti by Led Zeppelin.
Classic, Excellent reaction...
Man, their little one is hearing all this great music via Lex, so glad to see it😊
Holy shit!!! Tattoo you is such a great album ,lex put it on while your cleaning house top to bottom classic!!!!!!!
Only reason I say that is my wife used to be jamming this album Friday evening when she was getting ready for weekend, cleaning and such ,she loved it!!!!!
Saw that tour...
Greatest rock n roll band ever. Nobody comes close. Maybe they weren’t the best in the 60s , 70s, 80s or beyond but no other band was as solid and produced as many great songs, albums, tours and rock n roll style in so many years. NONE
That's Peter Tosh sitting on the stoop next to Mick.
Great early 80s album from them. Super groove, as they expanded their musical journey. Video was in constant rotation on the music channels.. Their 80's stuff was very video oriented. Should try some more.. Thanks for sharing..
horahh glad I mentioned it, timeless song
It's when they get to the bar and Ronnie is absolutely off his head. Love ya Ronnie.
On of my favorites and the rolling stone my favorite…lovelovelove 😝😜🤪😛
The Stones just fit like a glove for me.
Probably my fave stones tune. Just love that the boys are having fun, enjoying one anothers company.
Never was much of a Stones fan, but I love this song.
I loved this song the first time I heard it. It reminds me of the good times I spent with my friends.
This song came out in 81 a year after I graduated. Reminded me of the days with my buddies sitting around shooting the shit.
Incidentally, the front doorway and stoop at 96 St. Mark's Place, New York is the location used by The Rolling Stones for their music video promoting their single "Waiting on a Friend" from their 1981 album Tattoo You. The opening shot of the friends in front of a New York building is that which is also used as the front and back cover of the Led Zeppelin album "Physical Graffiti". The album was originally released with a die-cut sleeve design depicting a New York City tenement block, through whose windows various cultural icons could be interchangeably viewed.
Rolling Stones song “SHATTERED” is a must. Thank you!
Love the on location shots of this video. Filmed around everyday people. No harassment just part of the video
I'm still waiting on them to do Undercover of the Night!
Final track on their massive 1981 album Tattoo You which also had the hit songs Start Me Up and Hang Fire. This is one of my favorite tracks by the band from the 80s. Love the sax solos.
Beast of Burden is another good one😊
St. Marks Place NYC in the 80s so much great music and culture, people-watching for hours. Punks, and b-boys. We used to hang out at the bar in the video, the Bar & Grill, 2nd Avenue. Underage high school kids, they served us no problem.
The sweetest song they ever released.
Rock and roll. Luv it.
Just a typical New York Bar Band. LOL. I want to walk into THAT bar and catch The Rolling Stones playing a surprise gig. I could happen.
Older stones, still putting out great music. Just killing time, waiting for Keith (which would happen all the time). Great reaction.
I love this song
this song! this video will never leave my memory!
The building behind Mick is pretty famous. It is featured as the Album cover of Led Zeppelin's Physical Graffiti. It's located in the East Village of NTC. Also, this song is from the Stones Tatoo You Album. As Mick and Leith walk to the bar you clearly see the Albums cover art as a poster on a buildings wall.
2022 - their 60th year as the Rolliing Stones.
I used to walk by those front stairs and play video games in that bar (St. Mark's Bar and Grill) every night when I was about 20 years old and living in Manhattan. The building with the stairs that they were sitting on also shows up on the cover of Led Zeppelin's Physical Graffiti album. I think I left town (was broke and not tough enough for that city yet) shortly before they made this video. I remember a kid that I used to hang out with on another porch right across the street telling me that he'd met Mick and some of the stones at a party and they'd said they were going to come make a music video at the bar and grill. I didn't believe him at the time.
One of my Favorite songs by the Stones.
Little bit of trivia, the building they're seen sitting on the stoop of at the beginning, same building Led Zeppelin used on the cover of their album "Physical Graffiti", and the guy sat alongside Jagger is Peter Tosh of (Bob Marley &) The Wailers.
Sometimes song are for what the listener is doing. So guys who are just waiting on a friend can relate, and will think about that song when they're doing it.
I requested this song a long time ago. The Stones cool-hip factor is off the charts... A 'vibe'. The video of them in the bar is nice!
Oh boy! I remember listening to this it was dark outside looking out the window watching the snowfall by the Christmas tree. It's only rock 'n' roll album and the turntable.
That is the same building as the cover of Zepplins "Physical Graffiti." Also, that is Peter Tosh sitting on the stairs with Mick (white Tshirt). Mick sang on Peters song "Dont Look Back"
Great song I heard an interview (can't remember who it was) but they were saying that Mick had always admired "Two of us" by the Beatles. They were mates before they were "The Rolling Stones" and he wanted to sing about it.
one of my fave Stones songs off my fave Stones album! ♥
One of the guys hanging out with Mick Jagger on the stoop is Reggae legend Peter Tosh. And that building is supposedly the same building used for the cover of Led Zeppelin's Physical Graffiti album.
The sax makes this song one of my favorites
A lot of variety in their music.
One of my favorite Stones tunes! So casual!
The Stones are The Stones, you can't explain them and no one should try. 🥴🥴🥴🤔🤔🤔✌️✌️👍👍
It's all about friendship between men and nothing else. I think that is a very important message and not always self-evident. All the best wishes to you all for the coming year from Hamburg (Germany)
Peter Tosh (who released an album on Rolling Stones records) is one of the guys chilling on the steps with Jagger at the beginning of the video
This is my favorite Stones video ! Just makes me smile. Even on a rainy day !
Holy sh*t Brad your woman is an angel don't ever let go just figure it out somehow it's the best decision you will ever make..
Guys are looking even when they are taken Brad. It's just nature.
My favorite Stones song.
YES !!!! More Stones !!!!
Those guys on the stairs are just hanging out, maybe live in that building (in the story). That scene was filmed on St. Mark's Place, the main street of the East Village. I lived a few blocks from there at the time. The bar is right around the corner on Second Av. I was in there a couple of times .Too bad I missed when they were making the video !
Brad, Lex, in this Stones vein, PLEASE give Almost Hear You Sigh a well deserved listen! The pain in Mick’s voice is awesome.
They’re all smashed in this video 😂
Love Mick Jagger! His energy is amazing!
My favorite stones song! Tattoo You is such a good album.
The doorway Jagger is standing in was on the album cover of Led Zep's Physical Graffiti.
Hi guys I really enjoy ur reactions. I believe the song was written for John Lennon in his memory after been and shot and killed. It's a fun video. The rolling stones didn't make many appearances so to see them be themselves while making the video. Eventually they were on MTV til the 90s. It's taken from the album "Tattoo You" in 1981. Keep up the reactions
