me: I want to learn Japanese
you: immerse yourself in the language
me:*watches every episode of Naruto*
That's actually a really good thing to do.
Watch it either with no subtitle or with japanese subtitles/CC. It's better.
I learnt several ways to say spinning ball

Egidijus M. Nice one
As someone fluent in German as a second language: this tip is invaluable: *set your phone to the language.* if you’re under 40, you probably the know the layout of your phone by heart, and even if the button were blank, you know what they do because you actually just know their placement. So instead them being blank, make them German. (Or Spanish or French, or whatever) you slowly realize A LOT and I mean A LOOOTTTT of vocabulary. I noticed immediately when I went to delete a photo, "Löschen” is delete, when I went to click “read more” I would note "mehr anzeigen", and a Word I will literally never ever ever ever ever forget, because I saw it every second of every day: "Nachricht." It means "Message."
If you want to submerse yourself, this may seem small but PLEASE. It is HUGE and so unutilized.
Yess!! I did that and it helped a lot
what other ressources did you study? did you practice with native speakers? Also trying to learn german and was wondering what the roadmap looks like
this works until u learn a language like japanese where the characters change meaning and pronunciation at the drop of a hat. i guess u do learn how to spell the words though
@@sharinganassassin2967 oh yeah true. This only works for languages that share your alphabet lmao
I Just changed my language setting on my Phone. Thanks Form the advise ,
I saw your part two in my recommendations and jumped on that. Then I found your part 1
thats literally how i got here.
Ifoldthenuts me too lol
saaame
dutchkid2000 me too! 😅🤣🤣
same here
I know no one will be fluent in 2 months but you give great tips thanks!!
nataly vega yep. I’d give it a few years. But keep doing what he says and you’ll get there.
If you think so, then yes
Of course u won't be fluent but u can do some basic conversation in broken language enough to survive and we will gradually master it
And probably give some good jokes by repeating totally irrelevant sentences on purpose lol
İ think it depends on the target lang. İf it's similar to your native lang, 2 months could be enough
I listened to german music for 2 years before actually learning german at school but my german pronunciation improved much more than others, i also knew some basic sentences structure
fastfowler Parkour yeah. Listening to music is definitely better than nothing
ariinbeijing but at that time I wasn't trying to learn German it just happened
watching movies or listening songs in a foreign language is the best way of learning it.
Mein Respekt an dich. Was für deutsche Musik hörst du?
greetings from Germany hahahah
Since German, English and possibly some other language you also know share a lot of vocab you can pick up other new words from context and learn a language like infants do :D
ariinbeijing well, it is good, but it is much better when there is not too much noise, because if there is too much noise you won't be able to hear lyrics. Maybe if you knew the lyric and sing at the same time it would improve considerably. I think this is the trick behind the cortain.
I’m from Brazil 🇧🇷 and I’ve been learning languages like that ! You’re right buddy ! I speak Portuguese as native language ! A good worldwide radio is GARDEN RADIO !
Thats the type of motivation i'm looking for. I've always thought about doing anything in spanish but never saw a living example. Thanks.
This video is so good!
Thank you for the smart and detailed explanation.
Also you're very funny!! :))

This is soooo helpful!!! Thank you for the radio and guide here!!
You’re an inspiration, thanks for these videos!
I agree with immersion. I’m learning Japanese with the intention of moving to Japan after school. If you like memes, look at that. I’ve actually learned things from watching Japanese vines so just try it
Ah, vine... where has the time gone...
And are you living in Japan now?
@@uwu-nx9ux plans have changed a little, i’d love to visit Japan some time but have switched my goal to moving to korea, I’m 18 right now and currently studying korean at uni and i. have a year abroad in Korea 2023-2024, still continuing studying japanese by myself though!
Have you learned Japanese? Any tips if so on how you did it?
@@nuraortoma1820 i started with an app (not duolingo though it misses out some stuff) then i had a tutor. She was actually japanese and taught me through a series of books called ‘genki japanese’ they’re really useful.
Thank you! Look forward to more lessons.
Tunein.com is really, really good! Previously discovered the World Radio Map and ListenLive (for European Countries only), but I think I have a new favorite! Keep being an inspiration to curious folks throughout the world!
Running in sweats and crocs 😂😂😂😂
Me too
I'm scared.
Thanks for sharing!!! The radio website is great!
I'm about to start trying this! I have been taking Mandarin Chinese at school for two years now, but I really want to study more on my own. Wish me luck!
update?!
I love Calvin & Hobbes too
lol - loved the Monty Python reference. Found my way here from your other channel. Trying to work out the best way for "me" to learn Thai (something I have been trying to do on and off for ages). I have learned more talking to Thai's on holiday than sitting down and studying, I also did a thing one year where I got a Thai to teach me a new expression every day (something I would use).
omg thanks so much for these tipsss
"My hovercraft is full of eels."
Legend.
lol. awesome. i am also learning Cantonese - using Glossika, italki, Cantonese for everyone (book)and cantonese 101.
Started MIA/ajatt last month. I hope to improve more over the next year. Also, lovely to hear your journey!
How are you doing now with japanese?
Did you become fluent?
I just realized I’ve been doing this for months without even realizing it because i listen to wayyyy to much kpop and watch kdramas and I go hours without hearing English and it’s gotten to the point where I greet people in Korean without realizing it and I don’t realize I’ve just screwed up until they’re looking at me weird and I’m like “oh I meant hello”
Ese mi Chaoma, que chingón video!
He was the one who made me want to learn languages and even put the idea in my head. And then a random youtube video came up about middle eastern culture and then i fell in love with turkish. İyi
Otimas dicas ! Parabens.
most helpful thank you
My hovercraft is full of eels. 😂😂😂 if I had not already subscribed, I would subscribe just for that reference you threw in. 👍🏼
I admire you. You're my new idol.
Thank you so much
this better help me learn a language man, 3 isnt enough, everyone in my area speaks 3, i need russian and i need it now

the battle on Cantonese you make me want to go watch game of thrones . I wounder what the rains of Castermear sounds like in Cantonese
Hello :) I saw your videos where you speak Chinese. Truly spectacular. Congrats. My dream is to learn chinese, too. I already have a bunch of anki, but i would have liked to create a bunch on a drama or film via subs2srs. You use it? if you could upload a video on how to make anki deck from a movie and creating a deck with the scenes of the film and with the subtitles? thank you very much. The videos of the reactions are spectacular. keep it up
one other thing I found some movies or tv shows on DVD or Netflix Hulu etc.. they may have Chinese subtitles (both in traditional and or simplified) for their English shows and there are times I use the Chinese subtitles just to see what phrases they may use for the English translation even though I can't read fluently.
Yeah, my hovercraft is full of eels is in Estonian aswell xD
Insomma, ci provo a divertirmi in italiano.
I’ve been wanting to learn Spanish and Japanese for a long time just because.
Anybody love how he was running in crocs XD
Doing it with Japanese! Have you read AJATT?
i just imagine myself running down the street in my athletic clothes while carrying a whole radio
Would it be a good option to use FluentU to get an immersion environment? I don't know if it's a good app or not.
whre are the links ? I cannot see them
Great vid, I wish you could upload more frequently 😂
Been thinking about it, unfortunately it takes me nearly a full day to make one of these vids. I could make more but that would mean less editing, more like a stream of consciousness style. What do you think?
+ariinbeijing Hm.. If upload frequency affects the quality, that might not be a good idea. But if you're still able to put out quality vids (in more of that stream style) that might be cool to experiment with and see how it goes
You should try an app called ' radio garden' all radio stations around the world when you're on the go
What about sign language
577 wear ear plugs
watch videos of people signing, there’s lots of youtubers who sign so maybe check that out
You can use RadioGarden too.
Did you get your cantonese sentences on to Anki? If so where did you get your audio files from?
1:25 "yah I know, its 2016 and all" that actually made me do a double take xD
Nice Timothy Leary reference

Do you have any videos of you having a conversation with another speaker in your target language?

Here from the future 2021 !!
Just found this channel after watching hours upon hours of Xiaomanyc. Didn't know about this
UR amazing, by the way, I am a Cantonese
Good advice. For learning Japanese. I watch Anime and Samurai movies. Also a big help is going to JW.org and download the audio Bible in Japanese. Most languages are available.
I think it's different for every language, i learned English just by watching series with subtitles AND by watching korean videos with eng sub ( 2 languages at the same time, yay ! ) because i had no choice and as you can see i my english is okay BUT when it comes to Korean i'm soooo bad, i listen to korean ALL DAY LONG since 2013 and the only thing that i can do is introduce myself or say some basics words ! Same with japanese btw, i stopped after 2 months because i wasn't even able to learn 1 katakana ( maybe because i was learning 4 languages at the same time... ) but sorry this method don't help me to be better in korean :(
and did you try the anki flash cards ?
Yeah
I watch Game of thrones in the language that I'm learning. It helps.
Hey that's impressive !🖒
can you actually communicate just after one month?
what about after 6 months?😊
Thomas Dupre I can totally communicate at a basic level -- I kinda stopped at this level though! 6 months I could get pretty good, I believe!
I don't believe you can really speak Cantonese well in just two months time until you present another video to prove it.
Liu Joyce Dzień dobry jak się masz? Uczę się polskiego, teraz mówię po polsku. .. This is speaking he did NOT say fluently he said speaking there's a big difference , you chose how you wanted to interpret that.
好嘢。唔簡單呀!
i'm striving to learn japanese, russian and arabic just for fun... maybe quarantine's messin me up a little too much
thankfully i already know some latin and spanish so i know how to learn a language... sorta :')
How long did it take you to learn?
I WANT TO LEARN CHINESE SO BADLY.
i'm just like you, i'm american.

Austin _ nope, pq soy britanico y aqui todas las peliculas que salen estan en americano y estamos acostumbrados todos
Austin _ pos no seas menso, aprende wey
that age of empires theme at 1:02 though xD
randomguy YEEESSSSS
ariinbeijing I'm surprised no one had noticed yet xD
Can i learn two foreign languages (like English and Cantonese) at the same time by creating an immersion environment?
I guess not
Because in a immersion is better priorizite only one language and avert that the languages mix up.
I watch you on video everday. I confess that I know nothing about Asian languages. I think it is very complicated and difficulty languages. I tried to learn Japanese but I get frustrated on confusing languages.
I want to learn Spanish but I don’t know why I can’t pick it up! I’m Mexican and it’s sad that I can’t talk to my family. I also get afraid I’ll say something wrong!
actualmentet estoy aprendiendo ingles mientras veo un poco el italiano y pensaba hacer lo de la radio en italiano, a ver que tal
Hey if anyones out there maybe even ari I was wondering how to start learning vocabulary I’m trying to learn Hindi but I’m not sure where to start I have anki but other than that idk please someone help
Me: wants to learn Japanese

講廣東話嘅人唔多,點解會咁有興趣學廣東話?廣東話寫同埋講可以好唔同,比普通話更難。
Because his target is to learn every language on earth and communicate with any people he can just so you know i do understand cantonese and speak Cantonese
Yeah, I tried to learn Japanese in 3 months...I spent literally every waking moment of every day studying and practicing the language, not passive study, active study (I think I did watch one anime movie with subs but that was it)...I almost quit because of the hit to my moral after 2 and a half months when I still couldn't even read a childrens book in furigana...Maybe you can learn Dutch, Spanish, or French in two months but a language like Japanese; no...not happening and it's ridiculous to suggest it's possible. It's like saying "How to sprint up Mount Everest in 30 minutes." lol Your methods are spot on...but your time frame is WAY off...
Sure -- I guess a caveat is that is needs to be a language in a language family you have familiarity in!
Yeah, I will agree with that. If you are familiar with the language family, I would imagine that makes things a lot easier...lol
Type MIA matt v Japan channel its an immersion style of learning it has worked for me.
My rule for immersion is: if I wouldn't do it in English, I won't do it in Spanish (the language I'm trying to learn). I only listen music that I genuinely like, I only read books that I genuinely like, and same for TV/movies. It helps keep me motivated. I'm currently watching Arrow in Spanish, because I love the show
Hey.... have you succeeded by now in Japanese bro? Did you quit? I’m genuinely interested
woah, it’s 2021 now
how do i immerse in a language i don't like the culture of?
Is that bing on a mac 🤨
I don't have a Japanese radio station in London:(
What if I’m learning 4 languages at once? Should I focus on one?
Yes. Learning too many languages you won't get good at any of them. Choose a priority language at least
Hi, I'm from Argentina, and I need you to teach me to speak English fluently, or to recommend me a website please.
New comment, but is there any russian radio
Makes sense how long do you think it would've taken you if you only practised 1 hour a day?
Depends on the kind of practice. Really focused? You could have conversations in a few months, probably, if you already have background in a Chinese language like Mandarin.
In Hong Kong, we don't say our hovercrafts are full of eels. Lol.
Marcus Cheung In Hong Kong, eels are full of hovercrafts.
LOL Cantonese is my first language and I barely understood what he said there, I literally had to pause to read it to figure out what he was trying to say

Did you check with any cantonese speaking people to know if your cantonese is good ?!
Could you hand that word deck over to me please?
Do I still lose if I read game of thrones instead of watching it

How do I learn vocabulary from scratch?
Best way is to learn it in context, from native-level materials
But how? Should I learn anything before reading and listening to native level stuff? I already have Japanese Graded Readers, the first volume of Yotsuba&, a Shin Chan Special Manga, and some Japanese 3DS games. I know some Japanese vocabulary, but I'm afraid I have to know Kani radicals on Anki so I can read Kanji
Jack C. Well obviously you need to get a grasp of the basics before going into native level materials, but the sooner you start with that stuff the better!
lol you clicked the Mandarin channel on rthk
