    Smuggler's Cove and Death & Co. are favorites in my collection. Death & Co. new book Cocktail Codex is on my Christmas list. BT Parsons' book "Bitters" is also excellent. Cheers.

      Thanks! I picked up Cocktail Codex on pre-order and need to make my way through it. I've heard nothing but amazing reviews so far! Bitters is also on my amazon wishlist/cart! ;) Has it inspired some homemade creations or purchases?

      @@BarFaith Suntory highball or Eeyore's Requiem because refreshingly light or sharply bitter Cynar based cocktails are the solution for keeping cool in the Miami 'winter' weather.

      Thank you so much for the encouragement, Darrell! Glad you found it helpful and let me know if you ever have any questions! I deliberately didn't do a "recommended" or "favorites" video here for the sake of just going thru every one in my collection; I think each book has their place depending on who the reader is and what they're interested in. :)

    I have only read a few cocktail books, and agree with you on Smugglers Cove, brilliant book! I will be buying that one soon. I also bought 12 Bottle Bar as Distinguished Spirits references them a lot, and he makes amazing videos. I bought, and read Punch Bowls and Pitcher Drinks as well as Session Cocktails used off of Amazon. Both books are good, but I would skip the punch one looking back. My current favorite book however is my hardcover notebook from Staples that has my favorite recipes, and ones I intend to try. It is roughly broken down into session cocktails, cocktails, punches, mocktails, and syrups/bitters/infusions. I tried a spreadsheet, but there is something about a physical copy that appeals to me. Thanks for another great video!
    For ideas, I like your video on spirits and bitters. There are a ton of how-to-make videos. There are few that talk about spirits like maraschino, chartreuse, kirsch, apple brandy, etc.

      Thanks Ian! I've heard amazing things about 12 Bottle Bar and need to check that out. I started my Instagram account as a way to digitally catalog things I was making at home, much like what you describe. ^_^ The process of documenting something and photographing it really makes a big impression on how well you can remember and internalize something.
      Thanks for the ideas! I agree that there are so many "how-to" style videos that all probably do a much better job than I can on how to make some cocktail, so I'm trying to focus a bit more on the "lifestyle"-like elements of a home bartending enthusiast :) You know, things we all appreciate... ;)

    Well done Faith. You're relaxed and natural. Killin it GF:) We have a friend asked what cocktail book/s I could recommend but I've never read one LOL:) I would have said the Death & Co anyway cos everybody is always bringing it up but shall tell him that, The Bar Book & Smugglers too now. Saved me some effort:)

      Thank you, Kori! Those are definitely my top 3, though books (on any topic) are so personal so I think there's something for everyone :)

    I like the style of your vids. You have a wonderful face so the "close-up" style of your filming works well. Good luck with your channel.
    P.S. Video idea: Let's see an amateur mixologist mix up and review a few of her favorite cocktails. Cheers!

    Hi. Great video. Think I have 9 of your selection, so not bad!! I have Smugglers Cove, which is brilliant but not Potions of the Carribbean. Is there a lot more in ‘Potions’ over and above ‘Smugglers’? Is it worth getting both?? Thanks.

    • @BarFaith
      @BarFaith  6 лет назад +1

      Yes, they're totally different and definitely worth owning both! Smuggler's provides more of an overview and provides a very summarized version compared to Potions....think of it like a "sparknotes" version.
      Like I mention in the video, Potions reads like a history textbook you might have read in school, but all the historical events are presented in the context of what people drank. So for example, the opening of the Panama Canal is described in a chapter, along with the implications of that event on society and how it changed/influenced what people drank. It's a dense read, but is so incredibly rich with information. "And a Bottle of Rum" by Wayne Curtis is also another good read (that one is also very historical-focused, and less on "tiki"/the islands and more on rum). I listened to the audiobook version of that so don't have a physical copy :)

      Yes, Portions goes into much more detail about the people who created the cocktails. Yes, lots of recipes but it (same as Sippin Safari) also read like a history/travelogue.

    Hey Faith, thanks for making videos. I just subscribed to your channel since I’m interested in cocktail making and also a Bay Area native :) I’m thinking of getting some books but was wondering if you typically use these books on a normal basis. I’ve started using the Highball app which allows you to make cocktail recipes customized to your liking. Do you use any cocktail apps that you would recommend?

    • @BarFaith
      @BarFaith  5 лет назад

      Hi Corey! Sorry for the late response, didn't see this and still figuring out the RUclips thing :P Thanks for subscribing! To answer your question: Depending on the book...some are more informational so I don't necessarily need to keep referring back to it, but others I do use often! If I had to choose, I'd definitely suggest starting out with the Bar Book; it's all about technique and I still refer back to it often, years later. I also think the Death and Co and PDT books are fantastic resources, esp for recipes. If you're even mildly interested in tiki or rum (and even if you're not!), the Smuggler's Cove book may change your life. ;)
      For apps: The Highball app is beautifully designed! If you're on iOS, definitely look up the PDT app (it's basically the book in digital form), as well as the other apps by the same developer (Total Tiki, Martin's Index, a few more). I use those ALLLL the time since it's easy than looking thru physical books. They're $10 each but worth their weight in GOLD. Can't recommend it enough. Hope that helps!

      Bar Faith Thank you for the reply. I’ll definitely be looking into those books you recommended for leisurely reading. As for the apps, I’ll check those out too!
