Great video. My IronMan is an f2p only and my main account has only earned bonds in game. I know my main is technically p2p but I feel it was all earned in f2p spirit.
Even if you have the "F2P Spirit" in mind, getting membership in anyway can ruin your f2p only status. Someone that has a clean f2p status guarantees that they have the f2p spirit, but someone that has a dirty f2p status doesnt guarantee the f2p spirit at all. A perfect f2p status is very important to a lot of people. Imagine if ironman wasnt an official gamemode, so the ironman community just had to use the trust factor. It wouldnt make sense for them to allow someone to be like "Oh i used the ge once or twice, only for fashionscape though" I disagree with allowing people to go p2p for items that dont affect rates for 3 reasons: I dont want to look at p2p fashionscape on other players, it makes rules and guidelines a headache, and people will almost certainly regret ruining the cleanliness of their f2p status down the line. This also applies to name changing. Name changing is a p2p only feature and its just how it is. I do have hope that jagex will one day add a way for f2p to change their name, mostly to avoid confusing and frustration. In regards of fake f2p, its very hard to fake f2p and maintaining a top spot in anything related to f2p without getting caught. For f2p irons especially. Its incredibly easy to tell if someones faking f2p just by gains/stats alone People can claim im trying to dictate how other people enjoy the game, but i feel like rules & guidelines shouldnt stray away from being sharply defined due to the potential of "ruining others' fun"
You phrased everything pretty much perfectly, Tanner! But yes, I feel for the F2Pers in the higher realms of the hiscores, there for sure is more eyes on potential foul play. In general for an average F2Per who may not be at that level my point is that there is that honor system still. And I also hope in the future there is a way for F2Pers to change names without actually becoming a member in the process, definitely. I also appreciate you, and I respect your post here. I’m glad that the video is spurring discussion for the betterment of the F2P community, and the OSRS community in general! :)
@@Tannerdino my name had fuck advreated in it and when i switched to osrs it was like u cant use this and made me change the worst part is i had 3 accs with the name slightly different for each one lol
love the video! im just a player lmao i may get some membership once and a while and then that will run out and ill play f2p for alittle and switch on and off. im not going for highscore tho just having fun grinding
Honestly? It's kinda bizarre just how many people have tried to "cheat" being f2p (according to the wall of shame on the f2p wiki) I understand maybe a couple of people, I mean when you look at speedrunning for instance... It's just absolutely wild to see that there's been so many people acting in bad faith for the sake of a very niche community. But hey, I've met lots of cool people, and as for the idea of the f2p spirit itself, I didn't consider it in a sense of a former member going f2p for keeps. Very insightful stuff as usual!
It isn’t too common which is a good thing, and it really would be a problem if the higher ranked f2pers did shady things like this. I feel like a lot of the people who were caught did it on beginner accounts where most of them were probably going to go members at some point anyway. I feel like the F2P community is really good when it comes to this sort of stuff though which is nice cause it keeps everything whole. Not to mention it doesn’t fragment an already small niche community.
Earning bonds in F2P is a fun goal for me to attempt, so I don't necessarily subscribe to the F2P spirit, although I haven't spend any money on the game so I kind of consider that it's own version of F2P.
It's so nasally bro, I can't handle this content. I'm all for restricting yourself in arbitrary ways, but don't suggest other players should do the same out of some "fair play" non-rule. Obviously you can't consider your account F2P-only if you ever train with members methods.
Can't change my "nasally" voice, sorry about that! Maybe I wasn't specifically clear. If you were to play a "F2P" only account of any kind, you would need to train all your skills in a F2P only manner. It wouldn't be fair to the F2P community as a whole if one, or a few people secretly train their stats in P2P then all of a sudden go into F2P. It's either train F2P purely, or move into P2P. People who do this do break the "F2P Spirit" because it takes gains away from genuine F2P accounts that don't "cheat" the restrictiveness aspect of the F2P game. Though, yes, you are certainly right, if one were to train with members methods, it disqualifies that account from being "purely F2P'.
Let me know what your thoughts are on the F2P Spirit! :D

I never even think about the f2p spirit when playing on my f2p-only iron man. It's just that normal to me now.
