Love your reactions - you are so thoughtful with what you say and how you say it. You made a really important point. When someone is in the state of mind of ending their own life, in order to end their pain, they are often not capable of thinking outside of their own situation. Of thinking how it might affect others. But Ren is saying please do. If Ren's message reaches just one person that will prevent so much hurt. Thank you.
Renegades and this whole community is 100 percent okay with you crying on camera when reacting to Ren. He has probably made each and every one of us cry at least once. Love y'alls journey into the Ren rabbit hole.
Sadly they were not metaphores. Ren's best friend Joe Hughes, aged 19, jumped from the Menai Bridge around 3.00 a.m. on 28th December 2010. Ren was running to the bridge to try and stop him (a friend had called him to say what was happening and Ren had tugged on some clothes and started running to the bridge). Couple of minutes before he reached the bridge, Joe's phone tone was dead and when Ren arrived the bridge was empty. Ren has carried a massive sense of guilt ever since
It's a heavy song. It's also a wild song to make your second reaction to Ren. Just wait until you dive into "the tale of Jenny screetch and violet" you have to do the 13 minute version with all three. His story telling is absolutely insane
Great reaction, the first part of the song was Ren's contemplation of suicide, the last part was about his childhood friend Joe who did unalive himself by jumping off a bridge. Ren was called in the middle of the night. He was the closest to where Joe was. He was a few minutes to late. Ren has the story in the comment section of this video on his page.
Joe was his friend who committed suicide. There are a few other Ren songs that are tied to this. Check out 'Freckled Angels' which is an ode to Joe. Then react to 'Dominoes' which is an expose on society and the ills of self-delusion. Then finish off with 'For Joe' which is Ren's eulogy to Joe and his family. The latter is an acoustic amalgum from the 3 prior songs. All are phenomenal.
You speaking about the realities of Mental Health and the need for more understanding, I applaud you. I've lost a few friends to suicide and I'll be honest, it was their choosing to pass on that had stopped me from ever making that choice. Having worked for 16 years in Psych Emergency and Hospital ERs, I've personally seen how callus the mental health system we currently have can be. These are the people are responsible for caring for others with mental health issues, couple that with the stigma in which most of the rest of the world ignores the reality. Ren is bringing awareness to a new generation and for that I am ever thankful.
I've been watching Ren reactions for a year and a half and you two have just jumped straight in as my favourite reactors. Intelligent, thoughtful, empathetic, with a great understanding of the human condition; wise beyond your years. Please keep up the Ren reactions and I promise you the subscribers will come flocking! Ps. Check out "the tale of Jenny and screech, full versión" Next, you Will not regret It!
You are a thoughtful and wise young couple. Good luck on your life journey. Welcome to RenWorld. this is one of the most interesting and thought provoking artists working today.
5:02 Ren's song, "Chalk Outlines," has a lyric that speaks to what you were saying, "I'm scared of being okay 'cause all things change." One might hate being depressed, yet also be afraid of anything different. What if you get better, then sick again? Could you handle it? Do you have the strength to start all over again? You might not be friends with your suffering, but you know it, there are no surprises. It's comfortable in a way. Check out Ren's latest, "Troubles" since it explains a lot. Unfortunately, the whole bridge/hearse thing isn't a metaphor. They never found Joe.
You both are going to enjoy this rabbit hole. I enjoyed all of your thoughts. They were so intelligent and thought-provoking. I can't wait to see more. ❤
Wow, I really enjoyed & appreciated your thoughtful reaction! You are both very young to be so wise ❤ I've heard this song more times than I'd like to admit, and I get teary-eyed every single time! I had to subscribe to see you begin your Ren journey. He's a once in a lifetime artist and well worth your time ❤ Thank you, & I'm now going to go watch your Hi Ren reaction 😀
What a first video to react to Ren, the rabbit hole is very very deep guys! There are two problems that often exist, one is codependence, the other is narcissism. One is a failure to make space for others, the other failure to make space for yourself. Finding the balance to have room for both, to keep boundaries intact, while still supporting others, yet 'securing your mask first' is a challenge we face, and if we don't have models of it, it is a struggle. For some they have no inner mirror, they don't have empathy, others empathy is all consuming and engaging in someone else's problems or needs is easier than their own.
Wonderful reaction/thoughts on this hard hitter from the GOAT that is Ren. All other comments cover what we all know & feel about this song & Ren himself. You are both very wise, sincere & respectful. Looking forward to sharing your journey into the most amazing rabbit hole I’ve ever “fallen down” in my 53 years. Much love from Australia 🇦🇺 ❤
This is my 2nd time watching you guys. I absolutely love your conversation and analysis about the music and lyrics. Ren is a gift that we all need. I hope you continue to review his work. He shares his story and exposes himself so freely. Learning his story will make you cry when you listen to the lyrics. Great job. ♥️
I'm back, thank you both for tackling the difficult topic of mental health. It won't get better until we start having these difficult conversations. Good on you both.
Just came across this today. I was BLOWN AWAY by your reaction. I've been following Ren for almost 3 yrs now and have seen literally 1000's of reactions to his entire catalog; HANDS DOWN this was the BEST reaction to Su!c*de I've watched. I was in tears listening to your thoughts. ( My thought was "he sounds like a great counselor I wonder where they live" lol) Anyway, THANK YOU for bringing this one back around. Its been a minute since its release. If I'm not mistaken this is his only music video that uses A.I. Truly enjoyed it and I could listen to you talk for hours 😆👏👏👏👏👏
