I’m from Sweden and incredibly interested in history and i have to say that I’m pretty sure Norway was never as big as you drew them on the map and can’t really be called an ”empire”. They had the now swedish provinces of Bohuslän, Jämtland, and Härjedalen which we later conquered from them. It looks like you also gave them parts of Värmland, Dalarna and Västergötland which have always been swedish core provinces. Otherwise, great video :)

You missed Courland-Livonia. That was Latvia at it’s biggest extent (Estonia and Latvia and the colony of Gambia) The year is around 1492. Still great video!
Oh yeah, Polish - Lithuanian vassal. Sad thing is that Poland never managed to have any colonies, so our only ones were colonies of our vassal Courland - Semigalia: Gambia and Tobago.
@@johnnyjoestar5193 well, if Poland - Lithuania had colonies (and managed to keep them for some time), it would be maybe a much stronger state. Maybe it would avoid partitions and ever fall apart. Maybe it would be among strongest states in the world and Europe - France, UK, Russia and else were much stronger because of having colonies. Who knows how the history would have gone. Today, Poles, Lithuanians, Ruthenians and other PLC nations while travelling abroad would speak their language with people from different part of the world, just like Brits, Dutch, French, Spaniards, etc do. Polish - Lithuanian Commonwealth would maybe be alive today and it would be among the strongest economic powers in the world, not like today (where Poland is still far from Germany and UK). I know, not having colonies means that there is no nation who hates you because your ancestors killed and enslaved his etc. But then, who said it wouldn't be like with UK, with who Canada and Australia have rather good relations? I'm not someone who says colonialism is wonderful thing. It isn't. But if you do it right, it won't be bad either.

And of course, my point of the argument, i'm pretty sure that these empires were larger than a few of the ones listed in the video.
A "few" inaccuracies ? A "few" ? This video basically starts with an inaccuracy - Austrian Empire wasn't at it's largest in 1801 because: A) it didn't even exist before 1804 B) it owned all the provinces shown in the video and additionally parts of Northern Italy (Lombardy and Venezia regions) in the 1815-1859 period. And the vidoe doesn't get much better later. To several omissions add the silly mixing of very short term war occupations with actual ownership. Short term war occupation that somehow count for Germany during WW2 but not for others ? How is that consistent or logical ? And end it all with the really silly pairing of modern Italy with Roman Empire. This video is ridiculously bad as far as historical education goes. Or silly if you look at it as a joke).
You'reThatMantis The British ended up kicking the Romans out, the Romans then went and conquered elsewhere. The video was European countries at their largest, the Roman Empire was bigger without Britain than it was with Britain. Aka the Roman Empire did not have Britain when it was at its biggest.
Man, I was still tricked. The author supported an incorrect date for Austrian Empire's greatest extent, and the same empire owned Bosnia & Herzegovina, and Northern Italy regions. There is a bit more that Wasyl Wasylson pointed out. The author of this video definitely did not recognize any of these facts. COME ON!?
Anywhere But Here! Lol? That's a huge lie. The Roman Empire abandoned Britannia in the 4th century because it couldn't garrison it AND the border at the same time, not because they resisted in anyway. And in 117 Britannia was as Roman as Rome itself xD

@@johnnyjoestar5193 well, if Poland - Lithuania had colonies (and managed to keep them for some time), it would be maybe a much stronger state. Maybe it would avoid partitions and ever fall apart. -Latvia and Estonia used to be slightly bigger before they got annexed by the USSR

-The Iberian union was Spanish dominated, not Portuguese
-Belgium used to own Luxembourg for some time/personal union so in other words: they used to be bigger than they are today.

Because England wasn't part if the Roman empire at it's largest.

3. Russian Empire without Moldova? Not even a vassal? Dude...
4. Yeah sure, Portugal is the Iberian union, but Spain is just the Spanish Empire, of course
5. If year at it's largest means just territory land mass, then France would have neen bigger in 1939, when they owned a big chunk of Africa. But if by "bigger" we mean the land that really matters, then Austria was bigger in 1914
6. -Feudal Hungary used to own Naples (half of Italy basically)- (not exactly, my bad)

There is also a mistake in the Ottoman Empire. It used to own all of syria and iraq. Then there are alos mistakes in the european side. The Ottomans used to own all of crotia, all of hungary, and parts of astria.
There is also a mistake with the Norwegian empire leaving out loads of islands off the coast of Scotland and Iceland.

4:45 I was expecting Soviet Union
The Empire was bigger. Eastern block wasn't a part of Soviet union they were just satellites basically
Eastern Block wasn't part of the empire either. Not even all of the Soviet Territories were (Moldova, Western Ukraine). The Empire was bigger because it had a huge chunk of Poland, and all of Finland.
@@sambaseck73 I wasn't sure which northern territories the Empire had so I kinda just mentioned the general area. I know the eastern block expanded even further down so my bad.

You don't include the colonial empires?I'm pretty sure France was at it's greatest extent during their colonial empire and Belgium also owned the Belgian Congo
It would've looked odd to show an empire's colonies using a map of Europe XD
Jokes aside, it would've been more awkward and much longer to show the full extent of many empires because the animator would've had to create a full world map, and showing the smaller European countries such as the Balkans and the Baltic States would've rendered them hard to see.
Also if you're going to animate the world but only focus on European nations, you're quickly gonna have an aggravated crowd of Americans, Asians, Africans and Arabs wondering why the US isn't getting a feature or the good ol Kingdom of Saud isn't showing off it's mass. It's just hassle

Wrong! Greece's largest expansion was during the Macedonian Empire
Yeah. Eastern Roman Empire was not Greek empire at all. Slavs, Armenians and other minorities ruled it. Armenians, Turks, Slavs even Scandinavians fought for it. A country's language doesn't have to identify its nationality. In Ottoman court the alphabet was Arabic, vocabulary was Turkish, Arabic, Persian, Greek even Armenian mixed. And Ottoman rulers were also mixed by race, Turk, Greek, Slavic and so on. That's the similar case with Eastern Roman Empire
totally true. One of the biggest Empires and it has not been named
Nah the real name of Eastern Roman empire was eastern helenized roman empire after the annexation of Greece from the Romans the greeks called themselves romans and after the split of rome the emperor gave the eastern empire to the Greeks learn some history dudes and the turks, armenians, bulgars, serbs didn't exist then thats why after the fall.of Greece (Byzantine empire) in 1453 there were many greeks in modern day Turkey land even in Constantinople from the medieval period there are still greeks
@@flaviushonorius4629 theres no such name called hellenized roman in world history. Maybe in Greek School Books. Armenians were in the region since 7th century BC. Bulgars were there since 7th century AD, Serbs and other Thracian Slavs were also. Turks since 10th century. And you say that eastern rome was just Greeks. Well that level of ignorance is out of my league.
@@tolgao.8033 dude ur country had no empires just cry
The Romans owned England
And wales
Yeah but not at that exact year when the empire was at its greatest extent
@@indiekiddrugpatrol3117 That's simply not true. Rome in the year 117 was under Trajan who very much owned England and Wales.
@@imswanronson3558 that's right, in 65, Rome annexed England and Wales, and later it separated in Rome and Constantinople or West Rome and East Rome
@Drunk Lorry Funny how history works that way. The conquered become the conquerors.
About E. Roman Empire. Byzantium was mostly greek-populated and it was called "Kingdom of the Greeks", yet it still was technically a roman state, not greek itself. I would rather put Empire of Macedonia here. Anyway, nice video and regards.
I wanted, but there wasnt enough place on the map and I am too lazy to add boxes, so ..... yeah (:

Glorious Sealand, my dudes
a few inaccuracies like Finland not having the Petsamo region or Rome not owning any part of the British Isles. But otherwise good video.
What about the European Colonies that these past empires fully owned? Belgium, Britain, France, Holland, Portugal or Spain (possibly the Kingdom of Italy, but of course no one want's to see that.)? These should not have to particularly be in Europe,.. I would not think. And of course, my point of the argument, i'm pretty sure that these empires were larger than a few of the ones listed in the video.
A "few" inaccuracies ? A "few" ? This video basically starts with an inaccuracy - Austrian Empire wasn't at it's largest in 1801 because:
A) it didn't even exist before 1804
B) it owned all the provinces shown in the video and additionally parts of Northern Italy (Lombardy and Venezia regions) in the 1815-1859 period.
