Gibtelecom powers down System X after 32 years

- Gibtelecom has decommissioned its fixed line telephone exchange after more than three decades of service.
Minister Sir Joe Bossano officially powered down the system last week, having originally inaugurated the exchange back in 1990.
Very interesting video, though not sure why the news report shows at the start Panduit open frame racks, angled patch panels and VCMs. I guess its highlighting the Datacentre side of the operation.
That seemed very odd. But news content is generally filled with that sort of mismatch. The people assembling the content don't know much so they just use what ever and assume nobody else does either. Hollywood movies are notorious for this sort of thing technology based. You get the same stuff with news items that have a translator speaking over the top of a foreign language where the viewer is encouraged to believe the translated speech is what the foreign speaker is saying. When very often what the foreign speaker is saying has nothing to do with the translated speech. The editor just threw in a piece of the foreign language and didn't care because since they couldn't understand it nobody else would either.
There's a very good reason why mainstream media has such low credibility out there.

Exactly. Spot on. That's why Gibtel were usung BTs AXEs and DMS300s for their gateway's.

@@johnrauner2515 Yes, you have to use a soldering iron to terminate the jumpers. Have you never been in a telephone exchange MDF room?
